3D artist re-imagines Half Life 2’s Water Hazard level scene in Unity Engine

3D artist Deniz Sümer has shared some screenshots from a Half-Life 2 scene recreation in Unity Engine. This scene is inspired by the water hazard level in Half Life 2, and showcases what a HL2 game could look like in the Unity Engine.

Sümer has shared three screenshots. The first one showcases the level in daytime, while the second shows the same scene in night. The third screenshot is the most impressive one as it features a stormy weather.

The artist has done an incredible work as the scene feels like the one we played in Half-Life 2. In other words, he was able to keep the game’s atmosphere and vibe. Not only that, but the Unity Engine scene features some truly amazing textures. There are also some amazing lighting effects, as well as some really cool reflections.

Unfortunately, Sümer has not released this map to the public. As such, there is no way for us to run this fan-made Half-Life 2 remake in Unity Engine. Moreover, there isn’t any flythrough video that could at least quench our thirst for such a remake.

Nevertheless, this unofficial Half-Life 2 Water Hazard remake in Unity Engine looks really cool. It also looks better than the Half-Life 2 remake in Unreal Engine 4 we shared back in January 2019. As such, we had to share these screenshots with you.

Enjoy!

  1. Black Mesa dev team should switch from that old junky Source to Unity or UE4.
Xen is total mess just like previous chapters 😉

    1. Exactly! I would freaking love to see it on UE4 or Unity in “full r**ard” but like Broseph Putin said then they could not use the assets. So basically we are screwed and in a catch 22 🙁 and at Valve’s mercy.

When you see such amazing work like in the OP it is a really shame Valve does nothing with the Half Life IP 🙁 , feels bad Man. Now that we have such amazing tech for everything there is no excuse to not make HL3. At the very least they could remaster all the HL titles in a new pimped out engine and ditch all the loading screens. So much potential yet no one cares at Valve 🙁

  2. Amazing work! I just don’t understand why Valve doesn’t do full remakes of all the Half Life games while they have another team working on Half Life 3. Pure insanity if you ask Me.

With four titles to remake it will buy the team a massive amount of time to finish 3. LOL I got to just let it go and not think of any reason when it comes to Valve. Man those screens are really epic and make Me think of what they could done with the remakes, HL3, etc.

  3. I am actually not sure if I think this looks better.

I am sure it is on some level, but everything looks plasticy and lacks the naturalistic look that they went for in Half Life 2.

    Especially the water.

  4. naturally like your web site however you need to take a look at the spelling on several of your posts. A number of them are rife with spelling problems and I find it very bothersome to tell the truth on the other hand I will surely come again again.
