Ace Combat 7 has just been released on the PC and appears to be lacking major PC features

Ace Combat 7 has just been released on the PC and from the looks of it the game lacks various PC features that PC gamers were expecting to find in a brand new 2019 PC game. The game also currently has Negative reviews on Steam, though it’s really early right now and Bandai Namco can turn the tides with a quick hotfix/patch.

For starters, the game does not support ultrawide 21:9 resolutions. Not only that, but some gamers reported that they were unable to run the game in 4K though we’ll test this ourselves once the game has been installed on our machine.

At this point, I’d like to note that Bandai Namco did not provide us with any review code (even though it did send PC codes to… smaller websites). I don’t know whether we’re blacklisted or whether the publisher knew the existence of these issues and wanted to “postpone” our tech analysis, however – and as with most cases these days – we went ahead and purchased the game now that it has been officially released.

The game also does not support the mouse for navigating its menu (it does support it in missions though). This isn’t a big deal (at least in our opinion) however I’m sure that some gamers will be disappointed by the lack of it.

Perhaps the most disappointing thing with the PC version of Ace Combat 7 is the lack of support for HOTAS (Hands On Throttle-And-Stick) joysticks. From the looks of it, only specific models are supported and most PC gamers are unable to use their joysticks.

Some users also reported that the game prompts some Xbox button prompts instead of the keyboard/mouse prompts that it should be displaying (when using that particular control scheme).

It’s worth noting that the PC version of Ace Combat 7 was delayed two weeks and it’s really disappointing that it did not receive any additional love from Bandai Namco (so that the aforementioned issues were resolved prior to its release).

But anyway, stay tuned for our PC Performance Analysis!

  1. Digital Foundry put out their technical analysis of the PC version of the game, so they didn’t bar you guys from it for technical review.

As far as 21:9 support, that was never promised and other Bandai Namco games don’t support it either. And as far as 4K support, that’s already in the game… other users are reporting it working fine for them.

    1. That’s nothing more than white knightening and you know it Sly. I respect you man, but come on. No 21:9 resolution support in 2018-2019 is simply unexcusable.

For cutscenes i would get it. Damn, maybe even menus. But the whole game…?

This basically ruined my most expected game of the year.

  2. Really weird it doesn’t support mouse menus. It’s a UE4 game so it’s harder to make keyboard or controller navigable menus than mouse based one’s.

  3. No Hotas sucks. Not really surprised though. I didn’t even expect this game to release at all on PC. No deal for me as is.

    1. I wonder if RE2 remake counts? The only thing I can think of that does not work/not included is ultra wide with a proper FOV scaling. In multi screen at 5760×1080 it still does not scale correctly.

Compared to AC7 I suppose we should 100% count our blessing with the RE2 remake, if only all PC AAA games where at that quality 🙁

      1. Capcom, hate them or like them, but they’ve usually produced considerably better ports than Bamco, and have been doing so for years. They’re not great when compared to Western developpers but it’s still probably the best Japanese dev when it comes to ports.

  4. Come on Idiots, pay 60$ to get the game a month later (more in some other cases) than console version with lack of features and optimizations but they take their time to put DRMs on it. next they will bring it to EpicStore so they get rid of negative reviews as well.

      1. EGS doesn’t support reviews yet (at least didn’t when it came came out), and when they do, according to Epic, developers will be able to disable them on per game basis

        1. A review section that can be freely influenced and censored by the reviewee in question is worse than no review section at all.
E.g. the current “mainstream” gaming media.

          1. In the Epic store developers can opt in for being reviewed. They can’t influence the reviews, they only control if their game will have a review section or not.

  5. Who the hell play this kind of game with keyboard and mouse?!
But yea not supporting joysticks like the hotas is disappointing but can be easily fixed.

    1. yeah i remember playing that too with mouse and keyboard and i had to customize the damn thing so much to make it playable, i dont remember if i choose to look up and down with wasd or look left and right with wasd, or if i couldnt strafe with wasd, but suffice to say it was a mess trying to get it to work well with mouse and keyboard.

  6. also it has denuvo, i remember reading some article or some comments on this site on how it doesnt have denuvo then i pointed out that was the case for some other game i think yakuza and they sneaked it in there and you can bet its the same case with yakuza kiwami.

  7. Bummer. Waited for this version. Guess if a publisher doesnt want to give PC the same attention they give to other platforms while expecting a $60 handout just for less than bare minimum effort on a port then I can save myself some cash. Hope they patch it up because I’m ready to buy it up if the studio puts forth the work to earn my cash.

      +1 Intelligence

  8. Also, pcgamingwiki states that the game’s multiplayer matchmaking consists of an “Online lobby browser with no indication of player skill.”

  9. The major problem seems to be the lack flysticks support, there’s just a single model that works at the moment, the T.Flight hotas… which is a shame indeed!!

    1. Not true, stick support is bugged, but it’s not limited to a single model. This article didn’t do even a minimal amount of research, seems like it was written just to whine about not getting a review copy.

This is the last time I’ll be visiting this site, it’s clear what the agenda is here.

      1. This commenter didn’t do even a minimal amount of reading, seems like it was posting just to whine about something they clearly didn’t read while implying that the replied to user is somehow the writer of the article. *corrected your sentence.

Article clearly says “From the looks of it, only specific models are supported and most PC gamers are unable to use their joysticks.” yet you opened your tiny brain and went to town trying to bash DSOG.

        GG BRO YO!

  10. Surprise, surprise, it’s Bamco, the publisher that never ever improves upon it’s PC ports, let alone pricing methods.

Not paying 50 smackos for a delayed featureless buggy game. Forget it.

  11. This is why I bought it on XboxOne despite having a fairly powerful gaming PC (i7-8700, RTX2080, 32gb overkill RAM, etc.)

The lack of detail or features for the PC version made me concerned it would just be a half-assed Xbox port anyway. Lo and behold…it’s just a half-assed Xbox port.

    1. You little unlucky there, its the worse version plague with framepacing problem in 720p… But I guess with Freesync you will be fine …

  12. Typical Bamco port job. Bamco was one of the first to get in on that steam money train, but they just want the money and don’t give any further sh*ts.

I gotta admit I actually did a double take at the HOTASS bit, that’s absolutely egregious.
