Matthias Lindemann has been working on a scene in CRYENGINE and released some mind-blowing screenshots from it. Lindemann has used photogrammetry and the end result is as photorealistic as it can possibly get.
Now I don’t know the GPU that is required to run this scene with 60fps, however I’m pretty sure that this is achievable with photogrammetry on the current high-end graphics cards. Not only that, but this scene appears to be in a very small scale, meaning that the artist can up the quality of the objects to extreme values.
Still, this right here is what I hope next-gen platforms to achieve in full scale. Just imagine an open-world game with that lighting, those detailed textures and those objects. Simply mind-blowing and to be honest this may be too much even for next-gen systems.
The good news, at least for Crytek, is that it appears that CRYENGINE is capable – in its current state – to display visuals surpassing anything we’ve seen. Whether this is achievable with playable framerates (Kingdom Come: Deliverance for example is powered by CRYENGINE and although it requires really powerful GPUs, it does not come close to the image quality of these screenshots) is a mystery.
Enjoy!

Would be sweet if VR looked this good. Only a matter of time.
Hmmm… Let me dissect this: pretty much one color, heavily color filtered, photogrammetry, close ups with no room for ambience lighting and shadowing, the chainsaw, axe and lamp look bad… Not convinced. It’s the typical very staged setup, but yeah, the wood looks good.
Far Cry 5 would have been great with these graphics
Is this supposed to be a knock on “Lumberyard”? XD
But this is literally rendering of a lumberyard.
Not that convincing, *laughs*..seriously, do you really think these are mind-blowing ?!. sigh
Saying that would be an exaggeration, imho..
Gave me wood looking at these pics. Gorgeous!
Any remake would look amazing with these visuals, nuff said.
Got wood?
So, let’s see. Are the comments yet another competition to see who can be the most negative and unimpressed? Yep!
Awesome looking wood, by the way. Would hit with an axe. 10/10
Looks good, but I want to see video!
Looks great for a tech demo. Now, reduce your expectations by a factor of…… 3 or so, and you’ll be around what to expect for actual “games” in next gen.
No engine can touch CryEngine when it comes to rendering natural environments!
CryEngine always the king since early 2000s (original Far Cry)
UE4 and Frostbite have both produced better natural environments already. CryEngine has fallen far behind because some of its core rendering aspects are outdated. Any scene just looks better in UE4 out of the box and devs seem to have no way to fix the problem. Even Star Citizen with all its tweaks still suffers from that “flat” CryEngine look.
Where though ? Tell me one UE 4 game that looks better than Cryengine foliage and natural environment.
Kingdom Come Deliverance is the latest example of it and it basically gives you photorealistic and dense forests.
Star Citizen looks fine to me lol. Much better than anything UE4 has ever produced.
If you want a genuine indication of what next gen consoles graphics may stack up, just take a look at what’s currently on PC. What you see now in BF5 on PC at 4K, is about what to expect from next gen consoles.
They are designed and finalized, well before their release, so hardware is typically a little lacking. These tech demos, are absolutely worthless for gauging forthcoming console potential.
lol, please stop posting BS here on DSOG, Mr. Luckynumber8. enough of your BS comments.
didn’t your mom suck your D*** yet ? Lmao, she must be hungry who**** for sure.
you are nothing but a pile of junk….
It looks awesome,
Just 1 problem that will define photorealistic graphics will be when they can add dirt as nature doesnt look that clean.

THIS is the most realistic next gen ! cryengine is dead guys
again

too shiny and “perfect” but also I’ve yet to see an Unreal Engine 4 project that is optimized well so I don’t get excited by UE4 anymore
Hahaha if you want… but with 1060,1070,1080 it’s large optimized but if you talking about optimization go talk with slacker developers ^^
You should link to the images directly, not to their “album page”.
All we need is Kratos’ axe in the picture and maybe we have an idea of what the God of War sequel will look like 🙂
