Just Cause 4 has just been released on the PC and we’ve decided to initially test our EVGA GeForce RTX2080Ti XC Gaming in order to capture some 4K screenshots. For this initial benchmark, we used the latest NVIDIA WHQL drivers (417.22), maxed out every setting to Very High – but disabled anti-aliasing – and the results are not that great.
For starters, you cannot scroll down the graphics settings with your mouse (and no, I’m not kidding here). In order to browse the settings we had to use our arrow keys as there is currently no other way. Not only that, but you can’t go back to the previous menu by hitting ESC (something that is typical in most PC games).
NVIDIA’s most powerful graphics card, the GeForce RTX2080Ti, is unable to offer a constant 60fps on Very High settings in 4K with anti-aliasing disabled. This particular GPU was able to run the first two missions with a minimum of 50fps and an average of 57fps. Not only that, but the game appears unable to take full advantage of the GPU for no apparent reason.
As you may notice in the screenshots accompanying this article, our GPU was used at 91-95%. And to be honest, we were really surprised by this behaviour. Were we that CPU/memory limited that we could not hit a constant 60fps? So we then decided to lower our resolution to 1440p and we noticed a similar GPU behaviour. However, and while the GPU was still being used at 93%, our framerates skyrocketed to 97fps, meaning that we were not CPU or memory limited at all in both 2560×1440 or in 3840×2160.
Just Cause 4 also suffers from some ridiculously awful pop-in issues and shadow glitches. Furthermore, and under certain lighting conditions, the game can look really bad (visually).
But anyway, we’ll talk more about Just Cause 4 in our upcoming PC Performance Analysis. Until then, enjoy the following screenshots!

The NVIDIA Titan RTX is able to run Just Cause 4 with 60 fps on Very High/Max settings in 4K.
Nailed it !
As an owner of this game I can tell that LOD, water detail and AF have absolutely no effect if chosen higher. Swapping those settings from lowest to highest cause 0 visual difference and GPU usage doesn’t go up either. When was the last time a triple-A game had such broken graphics settings? Hoping the Steam review score drops below 40% so the text goes red.
The RTX 2080 Ti can’t handle LOW settings at 60 fps.
Here’s MAX settings at 1080p imgur com/yRckrYv.jpg
Here’s LOD, water detail and AF reduced to the lowest imgur com/3D1WoGP.jpg
Magnificent
my 970 can run it 39 fps max settings 1440p so i will be ok according to benchmarks.
Why do they still make this game? I would divert resources to a Sleeping Dogs remake.
The series had potential after Just Cause 2 but they screwed up Just Cause 3 and now Just Cause 4 is not much better. I don’t think there will ever be a Just Cause 5. This was its last chance to impress but they blew it again.
Just cause 1 was great . 2 was good . 3 was meh 4. Waiting for a crack to test the game cause if don’t want to get screwed like the 3rd one only played it for 5 hour get bored
3 was the best
I was always hoping for this franchise to pick up where Mercenaries games left off.
Just cause 2 SUCKED. They didnt fix the driving mechanics, horrible camera and aiming controls horrible sky diving, very short campaign, awful awful upgrade system, too much grinding clearing a base by having to find all the upgrade parts was a chore, godawful qtes when you try to steal vehicles. Every vehicle controlled like crap and blew up too fast until you ugpraded it, weapons were too weak until you upgraded them. So you end in a situation that you hold on to a nuke launcher and a gunship and threw pebbles to enemies until you went to a later mission in order to use it, but that moment never came especially because of money and slow deployment, you were better off using what you are given in the mission.
Just cause 1 was much better so is 3 and 4.
No just cause 2 sucked. Sky diving controls and camera on jc 1 are better so do the helicopter controls, whats the point of having to spend money and wait to get weapons and vehicles that are so weak that you either gonna run out of ammo or they gonna explode in 2 minutes? The ugprade sytem is a giant chore and having to find the upgrade parts to capture a base or a village is ruining the pacing of the destruction…..godamn it where is that last upgrade part i need to capture the base 100%. Awful weapons and vehicles too and a very short crappy campaign, why people like jc2 so much is beyond me.
Explain to me why the hell JC2 is better than JC3 ?? I don’t understand why a lot of people prefer JC2, it has nothing better than the third, at best some things work the same, like the sh*tty driving mecanincs, but for all the rest (progression system, open world mecanics, base invasions, flying controls, delivery system, gunfights…) JC3 is faaaaaaaaaar better, change my mind if you can
“it has nothing better than the third, at”
Well it has more enviroment types like desert but that was fixed with 4. Seriously jc 4 combines the best stuff from all games, its like you put them all together.
“flying controls, ”
Practicly unflyable planes and helicopters that take forever to steer and aim at ground enemies.
Don’t really care about environment diversity since this game is litterally “destroy what’s red.” But why not… For the flying controls i don’t know what the problem for you, i have absolutely no problem except for the homing missiles not working on M/KB, but overall it plays well on both gamepad and KB/M, and it’s more responsive than JC2 (that has good flying controls too) PS : If you think it’s difficult to aim at ground enemies in JC, just go check the same thing in GTA V… you’ll bleed from your a** before hiting a target lol
i am talking about jc2
i have played all of them and they are good games and the reviews for 4 say it is as good as the others so i dont worry. anyway will play it next week maybe as now iam busy with darksiders 3.
except no one cares about a generic asian game other than asians themselves that are into ridiculous shet. that game was dog shet.
I am not gonna make an argument on the quality of the game, but what you say is 200% truth, no one cared about that game, open world games tend to sell if they take place in usa, again look at far cry 5 sales or somewhere in the west, open world games set in asia as much as i like them, dont sell well in the west.
they don’t sell because they’re not interesting, everything about sleeping dog’s world was dull and uninteresting. true crime games were vastly superior. back when true crime new york came out i was playing it 24/7 even though i didn’t like the protagonist.
true crime ny for all its crappiness had a bazillion of features stuck into it, buying cars, races, underground fighting tournaments, tons of clothing to buy in different shops, same goes for cars and weapons and music, it really made you explore the map to find the different stuff, taxi missions and literally endless cop missions to do.
???????????
Remake? It was remade and re released with all dlcs, also that game flopped so hard it closed down the studio, its not even the same game.
WUT ?? This crappy GTA Clone with awful driving physics and sloppy Batman Arkham combat wannabe ? Meh story and dull open world ?? glad it stopped right where it was, don’t let nostalgia fool you, the game was ok in 2012 but had no futur at all, i take JC over it any time
What was the point of the story in that game? I mean i want to like sleeping dogs but the combat was too simplistic and the story went nowhere.
Absolutly nothing, finished the game, the ending was playing and i was like… what if really we evolved from the monkey ? forget it, don’t even know how i finished it
Sleeping Dogs. What an amazing game. One of the few games I really, really wanted a sequel for and it never happened.
Great game, play yakuza for something similar
just a heads up
Samurai Shodown (2019) confirmed for PC!
Image buying 1500$ gpu and not having max settings
GG nvidia
I think you must blame the game, especialy for this one, below average port, with mixed bag graphics, also still no patch at all, the game just released, and still no game ready drivers, take a break man and look at the situation
+1.
Denuvo = Hard Pass For Me. Oh yeah and since just cause 3 they decided to farm this game out to Avalanche NY, Instead Of the Proper Avalanche which is Avalanche Stockholm. My favorite gaming franchise is now dead to me. Fuq Sakes Man?…
????
The last game run like trash because of avalanche stockholm.
Just cause 3&4 is made by Avalanche NY. Avalanche Stockholm was doing Mad Max during JC 3 Dev cycle & they are now working on Rage 2 during JC 4 Dev cycle. Also there seems to be creative difference between Stockholm & Enix. So my guess is Stockholm just handed the franchise off to NY and says screw this mess. Thus begins the ruination of this Franchise. It’s over man. Just Cause is dead.
Side Note:
You can always tell clear as day when Avalanche Stockholm works on something and when it’s Avalanche NY. Just look at Mad Max, that game ran at 200 FPS & counting. I never personally finished or like the game but it ran like butter. It was never a bad have Per sa, it just wasnt for me.
Ran like butter yeah… but the game was empty, the world was empty nothing to burn the hell of your computer, it’s fitting well, that’s Mad Max after all, but i don’t think it’s only optimization, the game itself is not demanding, no NPC’s, no foliage, not a lot of thing to draw shadows, it looked good, but still absolutly not demanding
BUT MAD MAD MAX WAS BORRING. Also why wouldnt it run well, didnt have a large map or destruction or too many structures and complex enviroments.
This is why you don’t buy a video card when it launches, especially if it has a new technology on it. Drivers are the biggest portion for individual games. Raytracing doesn’t make this attractive if it’s struggling. I’d even question picking one up after the next round of cards come just b/c I’d feel left in the dust by better developed technology.
dude its a modern release. gotta wait 1-3 patches before its fully playable. they were too busy making sure it runs on consoles first.
what do exspect its 4k 2018 game
Utter garbage game, made by garbage devs and published by garbage publisher, what do you expect ?
no it is good i have played all 3 previous games. It has lot of action and is fun. there is nothing garbage about it.
The water textures are sheeeeeeeit!
? have gtx 970 and 24” 1440p 60 hz ips monitor dell2p2416d so i expect movie quality graphics at max settings unless they did something like dakriders 3 and mafia 3 and have only 640×480 textures even on max settings.
still rtx 2080ti runs it with more than 50 fps maxed 4k so it is fully playble.
F off. i ignored you before.
sooo what games you liked this year?
Well, i played Project Hospital, i liked it but it has it’s own issues, i played the Alpha version of Torchlight Frontier for around 2 hours and 10 hours wrestling with it’s awful launcher it was bad. played lots of Kingdom Come buggy as hell but really good, played Frostpunk, it was good.
But if you think JC is good or it was good at any point in history, i’m going to wrestle you too 😀
Im playing jc4 and I’m having fun. Graphics are awesome and some missions are really over the top. It’s a silly fun game that you can have so much fun in
She runs in the 60ties on max for me, on overclocked 2080Ti.
Which is where I would expect a buggy/early (read: typical) release build of a game to be.
I started with the franchise on JC3 (which I loved). Spoiled by that, I tried getting into JC2. Sorry, but if you played it in 2010, you are trapped with “fond memories”, but it is total crap by today’s standards.
BUT, Can it run Crysis?!
@JOHN, don’t you think you are kind of putting the blame only on the GPU, because maybe the Game’s engine suffers from some optimization issues, and/or it might also lack proper driver support right now ??
The game just came out, so it’s possible both the DEVs and Nvidia might release some optimization patches/updates/drivers, in coming weeks/months.
I wouldn’t jump on any conclusion this early though. What if, the game is badly optimized as well, a poor console port ? This might also hinder the performance as well, at least to some extent.
Maybe the RTX 2080 Ti might be powerful enough to play this game on 4K, but I won’t overlook any optimization issues though. Just my thoughts, as I could be wrong as well.
Cheers !
SO FAR, this is a major step down from JC3. The map, UI, and all menus are atrocious, and there’s something really wrong with the ground and water textures on Nvidia rigs (i.e. 60% of all gamers). If I’d bought on Steam, I’d be refunding it too. As it is, there’s better games to play until this gets some patches.
I think CPY just cracked this game as well.
I heard JC4 is done (yet again) by Avalanche New York, the B team responsible for the train-wreck that is JC3. Meanwhile Avalanche A team (JC2) is working on Rage 2 and that “L4D but with robots instead of zombies” thing. So that explains a lot regarding the technical ineptitude with this title.
I’m playing right now with a 1080ti at 1972/5800mhz and a 5820k at 4.4ghz. At 4k the game is at about 50-60fps sometimes dropping in the 40s. Gpu use tops at 97%, never more.
Though, the gpu gests hotter compared to other games (es odyssey). Up to about 78° with fan at 100%.
