The Sinking City-10

Frogwares will release its powerful Level Editor to The Sinking City players, remakes Istanbul in just a day

For the creation of Oakmont, the fictional city of The Sinking City, Frogwares has made its own city builder tool, level editor, in Unreal Engine 4. And in order to showcase how powerful this tool is, the team tried to recreate Istanbul within just 8 hours / 1 working day, using just assets from the game and a Google Maps overlay of the city.

The result is really cool and Frogwares plans to give the tool away for free for others to use after releasing the game. This Level Editor will allow players to create new cities and mods, so it will be interesting to see what modders will be able to achieve.

Wael Amr, Frogwares CEO, said:

“Hopefully once The Sinking City comes out, we can release the tech for free so other devs, educational institutions or even hobbyists can use it. The tool has been invaluable to our game’s development so I can only imagine what others could potentially create with it.”

The Sinking City releases on March 21, 2019.

Enjoy!

    1. As a dev, I do. Its not simply a level editor. Its a UE4 plugin that increases the speed at which someone can create worlds.

      1. for the game though, whats the point? Making tet another street corridor identical to all the rest after you finish the game means nothing.

        1. Then it’s not really for you is it? “so other devs, educational institutions or even hobbyists can use.”

Unless you are one of these don’t see why it would mean much to you. They aren’t releasing this with modding or their game in mind necessarily.

          1. I’m neither of those, but this means a lot to me in that it will cut down significantly on how long it will take people to re-create real world locations in UE4 which could be pretty nice for showing off the whole entire engine. Or if people do end up using it for modding, which would be cool to play Sinking City and Cthulhu-ize something like Miami or another city.

          2. Yeah I ain’t gonna use that for real life locations. What’s the fun in making something that’s already been made?

  1. this is a good idea for modders. very impressive too. PC is clearly the best platform for moding and expanding game content. great idea!
