As we’ve already stated, Intel will be developing a discrete GPU for consumers and gamers that will rival AMD’s and NVIDIA’s offerings. And today, we have a release window for the first discrete graphics card from the blue team. According to a new teaser trailer, Intel may release its first GPU in 2020.

Naturally, Intel did not reveal any additional details. From what we know so far, Intel has hired both Raja Koduri and Chris Hook who previously worked at AMD. As such, we expect some truly amazing things from Intel’s first GPU (and we really hope it won’t be another Larrabee).
Kudos to our reader Metal Messiah for bringing this to our attention!

It will most likely be low to mid-end at best. I don’t see Intel competing with high-end Nvidia products anytime soon. On the other hand AMD’s discrete GPU mind-share and market-share is all for the taking.
Intel probably is going to take that.
…to rival AMD and Nvidia huh? pfft 2020 no less? Counting their chickens just a weeeee bit early don’t you think?
2020 is very reasonable. It takes a lot of engineering time and R&D to come up with a successful design and remember that Intel makes their own chips so there will need to be time to prepare their fabs for production as well.
You don’t say? Rd takes time huh?Never wouldve thought. My point is what’s the point in a tease for a gpu that we’re bound to be waiting on for over 2 years (min)? A first effort in a tight market with no specs whatsoever. Ok Intel nice try but at this point in time it means nothing to me.
Intel can poke me when/if (and that’s a huge if) they manage to rival the current crown holder, whoever that may be….2+ years from now. 2+ years when this new unreleased gen of gpu’s will be at its end. Until that point IMO it’s all vapid fluff.
Nice, more competition benefits consumers.
I totally agree with your thoughts. We seriously need another competitor in the GPU market.
I’m trying to be optimistic as well, despite the fact the cards are coming in 2020.
Even though we still don’t know whether INTEL will mostly target the AI, Machine learning segment and the like (compute solutions), or they will also release a consumer gaming graphics processor come 2020, but there is hope.
I can’t disagree with some who are saying that INTEL is hyping their product 2 years in advance, but it’s kind of hard to jump on any conclusion right now.
We need to see what Intel has to offer, and whether it will indeed compete with Geforce and Radeon alike, at least in the mid-range segment.
Competition is going to be tough though. Will RAJA and Chris really deliver us a discrete gaming card ? I guess only time will tell.
As long as they don’t do any stupid stuff like gimping their GPUs when used with an AMD CPU…
Then i must keep gtx 970 at least until then because this will force
nvidia to lower prices and we might bying cards with 100% more power
than current ones at half the price!!
I hope they blow both AMD and Nvidia out of the water. This industry needs it.
I hope the GPU market doesn’t devolve into naval warfare. That would be unfortunate and illogical.
It would also be highly entertaining!
Then i must keep gtx 970 at least until then because this will force

except nvidia is even more ruthless than intel when it comes to progress.
Well, at worst Intel will probably release some entry level through midrange GPUs but that is what the vast majority of PC gamers buy and that is where competition for Nvidia needs to be for most people. AMD should have their 7nm GPUs out by next year so they will be competition for entry level through midrange Nvidia GPUs. I think it’s great having 3 companies compete for my money. For those that must upgrade before 2019 (AMD) or 2020 (Intel) then you are pretty much at the mercy of Nvidia and what they may try to get away with charging.
I do think Intel will bring something to compete on high end against the 2080 Ti and here’s why. They probably couldn’t sell enough of them for gaming cards to make it worthwhile but I expect Intel to go for Nvidia’s throat on the professional cards lineup. That’s where the serious margins are. They will need the full core chips for that and there will inevitably be some chips that don’t quite make the standard for a GPU in a $10,000 to $15,000 professional card (salvage chips). So what to do with these expensive to fab chips? Gimp them a little and release them for high end gaming cards is my guess.
In any case it’s a while before we know what Intel may bring. They could half-a*s it as some speculate but if they really make a go at this using some of the tens of billions of dollars in cash they are just sitting on which is waiting on something to invest in for future earnings then Nvidia is in for a slap to the face in 2020. We’ll see.
Just raw performance alone will not going to cut it. Intel really need to improve their devrel first if they really are serious about entering discrete gpu market. Right now their devrel with game developer is even worse than AMD. And it’s not about sponsored game or integrate their exclusive tech to games. But simply real effort to help game developer with their issue even if it’s from dev or game that we never heard before. Nvidia has been doing this for over a decade. Sure many game developer also did not really like nvidia tendencies pushing their proprietary stuff. Even give the nick name “graphic mafia” to nvidia. But all of them will agree that nvidia is the only one that is quick to give their response and wiling to assist even if you’re just a small team of dev.
and one thing they really did adopt from AMD is hype in advance….
No kidding…. and hype always works out so well in the end too. I love being slapped with a big letdown , who doesn’t? All over what will be IMO a middling device to compete with AMD, one that’s over 2 years away. Not even remotely interested until its actually released.
Really when you look at this there is only a possible upside to this and no downside at all. If it turns out to be mostly hype and little substance or real effort from Intel or if Intel really tries but they fail then what have any of us lost that we have now? Nothing. We have Nvidia calling the shots and AMD trying to stay relevant right now and if in 2020 we still have the same thing then nothing has been taken away from us except a little hope that Intel might just come through for us.
I hate disappointment too, especially when it comes to GPUs but the best thing is to not expect too much and if Intel does come through then all the better.
I agree but Intel is beyond premature here. Given their piss poor track record in CPU bs as of late and the prospect that Intel can develop a solid gpu with equally solid drivers to equal or beter nvidia doesn’t inspire any confidence whatsoever.
Of course the day is young and we’ll just have to wait and see.
Well Intel welcome to the wraith of Nvidia.
Wonder what will happen to our Gsync and Free one monitors… hmm. Will they make a new kind of sync tech for their own cards or just use the Display port one that works with Amd cards? I cant buy anything else than Nvidia, my monitors.. are… yea.. im stuck with them sadly.
From the captured pics, it looks like a SINGLE slot GPU, having a blower type fan with metal fins, for the cooling.
Rumored to be the next “”Arctic Sound”” discrete card:

Actually it’s not Intel’s 1st dGPU. It had released the Intel740 back in 1998
Yes 1998… might as well be their first attempt.
Then i must keep gtx 970 at least until then because this will force nvidia to lower prices and we might bying cards with 100% more power than current ones at half the price!
