At QuakeCon 2018, Bethesda’s Pete Hines told IGN that although Fallout 76 will be exclusive to Bethesda.net, their future titles could be released on Steam too. Although Hines did not confirm whether DOOM Eternal or RAGE 2 will come out on Steam, he did say that only Fallout 76 has been announced as an exclusive to Bethesda’s launcher.
“We did not announce ‘all future Bethesda games will not be on Steam. That is not what we said. We said ‘this game will be available exclusively on Bethesda.net.’” Hines and continued:
“We haven’t decided on anything else, this is specific to Fallout 76 given the kind of game it is — it’s an online, ongoing game. [Doom Eternal] may or may not, but it hasn’t been decided on anything else yet.”
Hines also explained why Fallout 76 is exclusive to Bethesda.net, claiming that the team needed to have more control over the online experience of players.
“We feel like the best way for us to provide the best experience and service to our customers is to be dealing with them directly, and not through someone else.”

If Fallout 76 sales are great then why wouldn’t their future games be exclusive to Bethesda’s site.
Why not put on Steam WITH Bethesda launcher then? Just like Ubisoft games (uPlay).
Because that would be disgusting as hell.
You mean upay
Most likely, but Fallout will sell by the truckload no matter where it’s sold. Probably the same for DOOM, but I wouldn’t be too sure for games like Rage or The Evil Within.
Once they lure a customer into setting up an account then there’s no problem selling additional games at that point. That is what Fallout 76 is for. To get people to create an account there. Fallout 76 sales will decide the future of Bethesda’s long term plans. Hine’s has left himself a backdoor in case it doesn’t sell well but it’s pretty obvious that it’s already a done deal and most gamers that like Fallout games will buy it no matter what they say on the net. Money talks loudest.
Ya, must likely.
Dont make me laugh, the team gets full control over steam, moderation, updates, and you know sell their game with 70% profit . What the f is bethesta talking about ?????
Talking about bu115h1t?
Basiaclly they don’t want to pay the charge for putting on the Steam store or GOG store, more money for them. Making your own client is cheaper then putting your games on other stores, losing sales won’t be an issue because they will just make more money using their own client so in effect not losing sales because they don’t make nowhere near as much as then their games are on Steam.
If Fallout 76 sales are great then why wouldn’t their future games be exclusive to Bethesda’s site. This is just Pete Hine’s not burning any bridges behind him just in case sales aren’t as expected. In reality it’s us, the gaming community, that will make the decision for Hines which direction Bethesda goes in the future with our wallets
if that’s the case, then all my future upcoming bethesda game just
got lower on my priority list. i’ll let other people be beta
testers.
This about nails it on the head.
Doom Eternal better be on steam
or else it’s gonna get pirated to oblivion
So all I get from this is DO NOT BUY Fallout 76, to save us all from the Bethesda client.
The best possible signal to send them is to simply not purchase F76 at all. Not using their client, let alone not buying from it will send them a clear and concise message.
I know I’m not going to buy it, simply because I have used the client before with QC and it ran and acted like gutter trash, while also having next to no library and built in workshop (as well as other features Steam has).
The game is very likely to run like utter crap with my 1080ti/6700k like F4 has done before, so I’ve all the more reason to not consider buying it.
And that is why games should not buy this game!
Exactly. If anything the game isn’t as important to them as the others and as such it can act like an early testing ground.
“Our games will be exclusive to our launcher because it means more MUNNY for us, unless of course, they don’t sell well, hehe. Then, we’ll return them to Steam and put some PR spin garbage on why, and everyone will just eat it up.
Thanks for being good lemmings everyone!”
Thankfully, there’s hardly any Bethesda garbage I care about. The Elder Scrolls every 8 years or so, but really, does anyone here even trust these morons to release a proper TES game anymore?
I don’t think it’s because of the Money. they will sell less, alot less
than being on steam. it’s about control, they have 100% control over you
and the game and ability to pull/push/roll/re-roll any rules they wish
whenever they want and also there are no user reviews on store front,
like battlenet and unlike steam/gog. so no one can tell it the game is bad/broken based on user scores.
im sorry to trigger you, but im honestly sick and tired of having multiple launchers on pc, enough is enough.
Hey man I understand your point in having everything under 1 umbrella. But to have healthy discussions, refrain from talking like a dismissive lil B*tch (by using words like “triggered”) and talk to me like man. Was that “triggered” enough for you? And further more, yes it’s convenient to have everything under one umbrella, but just remember; “With More Convenience, Comes Less Freedoms”.
look at your first comment, you started it first, i’m just responding to your insult, if you call people names, be prepared to be called back, like you said, be a man and don’t cry like a baby about name calling, if you can’t take the heat, get your azz out of the kitchen.
Also all of ur friends being in different places too… steam is also like Facebook.. in a lot of ways. Competition is good, but man..if it was up to me, steam would be the only ones existing (as bad as that sounds)
Bethesda try to jump at greediness sea where EA and Ubisoft has drown in it long ago…
They need their 5H1ttY game stay away from Steam reviews and refunds. Reviews are useful sometimes, mostly on F2P and multiplayer games.
Funny enough I have seem games on Steam with their own multiplayer systems using Steam just for updates and sales. For example Heroes & Generals, they manage their own database without attaching your Steam account to the game. Guess an indie company that found alien technology Bethesda doesnt have access to.
It could sell less but revenue could be the same. I think its matter of getting away from reviews.
You are just a moron, speaking bad of Steam being a DRM, then Bethesda makes their own DRM launcher, lol. Stop getting triggered just because your hipster store doesnt get any but old games, oh aside from The Witcher 3.
If owning what i paid for is considered “hipster”… Then count me in brother. Gonna get me some skinny jeans with GOG labeled on it. You Donkey…
