RimWorld has now sold over one million copies

Ludeon Studios has announced that its sci-fi colony sim driven by an intelligent AI storyteller, RimWorld, has sold over one million units worldwide. RimWorld is described as a story generator and it’s designed to co-author tragic, twisted, and triumphant stories about imprisoned pirates, desperate colonists, starvation and survival.

The game’s structure works by controlling the “random” events that the world throws at you. Every thunderstorm, pirate raid, and traveling salesman is a card dealt into your story by the AI Storyteller. As such, there are several storytellers to choose from.

RimWorld is currently available on Steam Early Access and this version is fully playable, low in bugs and balanced.

Below you can find a trailer that will give you an idea of what RimWorld is all about.

  1. Graphics and art style look so much like Prison Architect id think the game was made by the same developers on the same engine. Apparently it isnt though, id almost call it plagiarism.

Still, it looks like a good game and I might give it a try myself.

  2. This game is great if you combine it with mods to cover for the missing features. Optimization is crap in late game though because the game keeps past data and will require higher computation the longer you are playing

    1. Also it’s single-threaded, which is the single most retarded decision made during the development of this game. But oh well, there are ways one can live with it I guess.

        1. Haven’t heard of any update like that. Admittedly it’s been a while since I played it, but the only mention of multi-threading I’m finding is a modder trying to implement it.

  3. i will definitely grab this when it leaves early access. I know it’s got good reviews now but i like to make sure early access games actually get finished before i buy them after getting burned before.
