Steam sets new record for concurrent users, over 17 million Steam users online simultaneously

Yesterday, Steam set a new record for concurrent users as there were 17,686,886 Steam users online at the same time. The previous 15 million milestone we reported was back in September (obviously we missed the 16 million record). Moreover, it appears that Steam is nearing the 18 million milestone.

According to Steam’s graphs, PlayersUnknown: Battlegrounds was the game with the most concurrent players. Bluehole’s battle royale game was almost able to hit 3 million concurrent players. The second game with the most concurrent players was DOTA 2 which did not hit the one million goal. For what it’s worth, DOTA 2’s lifetime concurrent players peak was 1,291,328.

The third most played game was Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, followed by Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege and Team Fortress 2. Warframe was in sixth place, followed by Rocket League and Grand Theft Auto V. And in the last two places (for the Top 10), we find ARK: Survival Evolved and Football Manager 2018.

It will be interesting to see whether Steam will manage to surpass 18 million concurrent users in 2017. Let’s not forget that December will undoubtedly boost its numbers with all the new deals and offers. Furthermore, we are almost certain that PlayersUnknown: Battlegrounds will surpass 3 million concurrent players in December. After all, Bluehole will fully release the game next month.

Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

    1. Have you played them? lol
      I have.
And easily in the top ten I would say 6 of them are quite fun.
Then again when you’re a dabg like me and own nearly every major game, I can choose what I want to play when I want to play it, regardless of public opinion.
Unlike people who comment negatively yet have never even played the games.

  1. if you total the peak of all the games on that list excluding PUBG it comes in at still less than 500k off of what PUBG peaked at.

    1. And I just bought PUBG.
Easily one of my top 10 games now.
I didn’t believe the hype then I bought it and now I know why people are going crazy over it. Looks pretty good, plays pretty well, and isn’t easy to master. No regrets.

        1. I’ve played with lots of people and have hung out with lots of people who play CS-XXX.
They play 1 map for 8 or more hours, over and over again.
So all you’ve done is prove the game isn’t for you.
I find the game perfect for my attention span.

          Same thing as MWO.
I can play 50 matches in one sitting.
But obviously MWO isn’t for you.
          Etc and so on bro.

But if it is your thing, it’s so much hottness.
          Off for another match.

  2. PUBG is just the new hotness. Its the flavor of the year. Dota 2, CSGO these two games will always be high on the concurrent user charts. Once another flavor of the year multiplayer game hits PuBG will fall just like everything else.

And no i dont dislike the game or am i championing for another game to take over or whatever you soul less fanboys do.

    1. Hey bud, long time no speak.

I avoided PUBG until I got it for $22.
And let me tell you, I regret not having played sooner to have some skill aka map knowledge.
This game touches all the right nerves.
It’s everything you want in an FPS that takes 10-20mins and yet leaves me craving for more. From panic, chill inducing moments to straight up warrior face to face one offs.
Now I know why everyone is playing it.

And let’s be real, DOTA and CS held the tops spots for how long?
I for one am glad they no longer are kings of the most played.
And I highly doubt something will come along and take down PUBG.
It took this long for something to beat DOTA, no way it’ll be over soon.
Not defending or fanboying, just using statistics and logic.
But yeah, buy the game if you like FPS and looting while being hunted or hunting.
Seriously, I didn’t believe the hype, now I am sold on it.

        1. Both games combined don’t reach the numbers PUBG has generated. From total purchases to online daily players.

          Not trying to argue.

I’m telling you from my own personal experience and opinion, having played this game, it scratches the itch but only if you are into an online FPS. Otherwise, avoid it.

Look how long CS held top spot. And that game is nothing compared to PUBG, granted you can’t really compare them directly, but the point is made.

  3. Disgusting monopoly, don’t get me wrong it’s better than whorigin or Ucrash
but it’s getting worser and worser with steam’s new draconian laws
(censoring, banning users for speaking against BS practices, their new forced r e t a r d e d currency system which blocks you from buying games if the publisher haven’t converted his game into your local currency, and just more and more B$)

i hope that one day GOG will be as popular if not more
we need competition and more consumer rights

    1. I’m always glad to see a game hit GOG and will buy it there if I don’t already own it but the very thing that people like about GOG (no DRM) ensures that it will never be as big as Steam. Publishers won’t put most newer games on GOG because of their anti-DRM policy.

      1. GOG needs to be cheaper than steam
instead of 30% cut, why not make it 25%? or 20%?

they gotta make themselves lucrative for publishers to use than instead of steam, because Steam for publishers is the default approach
