Dark Devotion is a new roguelike RPG inspired by Castlevania & Diablo 1&2

Hibernian Games has informed us about its new roguelike RPG, called Dark Devotion. Dark Devotion is inspired by games like Castlevania, The Souls series and Diablo 1&2, and will feature a rich universe of chiaroscuro-style handmade pixel art.

Dark Devotion promises to feature a strong RPG influence and players will be able to loot a lot of different weapons, armours and relics. Players will also be able to upgrade their characters.

Hibernian Games has launched a Kickstarter campaign for it (that ends in 11 days), targets a 2018 release, and has released a demo to the public that can be downloaded from its Kickstarter page.

Here are the game’s key features:

  • Take part into rageous and bloody fights in which your opponents won’t rest.
  • You can’t go back. Each game will bring you through differents paths and new secrets to discover. Be careful, or you will easily get lost.
  • A strong RPG influence, you will have the chance to loot a lot of differents weapons, armours and relics with statistics that will allow you to create your own build for your unlucky character.
You will also be able to custom your equipement with mystical runes.
  • Discover the complex story behind this temple through the differents NPCs, ennemies and texts of past travellers lost in this place.
  • Pray for your safety, killing ennemis will rise your amount of devotion that will be necessary to open doors, chests. Spend it with parcimony.
  • Be blessed or cursed, the temple can be a place of vertue for those who deserve it, but also a place of despair and sickness if you’re blind to the environnement. Simple damages can become much worse if you delay its healing. A badly maintained equipement can cause you much more trouble than you think.

  1. Oh man! Two things wrong with this one.At least in my book. 1. It is a sidescroller. This is unacceptable. 2. Kind of Dark Souls-ish combat. Which is not a huge obstacle, but not my favorite.
    Other than that looks good.

    1. Sidescrollers are awesome. What’s wrong with side scrollers?
Dark souls like combat, also something I really like. It’s better than button mashing.

      1. It is awesome that you like them. But,as I said for me it is just unacceptable. Even if it looks cool. I think the technology is powerful enough that games can be much richer and complex. I played Contra and Super Mario when I was 8yo,some 25 years ago or so. And that was great. Guess I just grew out of it and find it very unappealing.

I have no problem with button mashing. And no problem with Souls like gameplay either.
        Although I don’t mash buttons much,since I always use K&M.
Which means -controllers are unacceptable as well. 🙂

        1. I’m glad you know what you like, but honestly, you just sound like you’re really restricting your own enjoyment of things.
A little closed minded perhaps? I mean, that leaves you with RTS, and FPS right?

          1. It is true that I filtrate out some games. Just can’t play em all, and can’t like em all. 🙂
I play a lot of RPGs.
            I prefer TB strategy games.
But basically, any view is good with me,but sidescroll.
I don’t know man,I must be broken or something. 🙂

          2. That’s fair enough. Everyone has their thing. I personally like side scrollers more than most. I just find the control to be tight (usually) and many of the most interesting games lately are indies, which tend to be this style of game for budget reasons.

        2. Try Salt and Sancturay mate, perhaps it’ll change your mind about sidescrollers with Dark Souls like combat.

          1. I was really thinking of it.It is a good example, since it looks very good. But…sidescroll and all. I’ll rather watch someone play it. Like on Twitch for example. 🙂

      1. Should I sidescroll into it? 😀
But nah! As far as I know. House fires can cause harm and even burn marks. So,I rather not do that. That is pretty dangerous. What are you thinking Shade Smith? 🙂
