Arma 3 is a beauty to behold in 8K

While Arma 3 suffers from optimization issues, we can all agree that it looks great. Bohemia has done a terrific job with the game’s lighting effects and vast environments that you can truly appreciate when viewed in ridiculously high resolutions like 8K.

Xanvast has shared the following video, showing Arma 3 running in 8K. Xanvast used three NVIDIA GeForce Titan XP graphics cards and while the game looks beautiful, it can be considered unplayable, at least for PC standards. Unfortunately, Xanvast did not include any overlay stats so we don’t know whether SLI scaling was ideal in this particular game. Console gamers, on the other hand, may find it playable as the game runs with 21-30fps, which is how a lot of games run on PS4 and Xbox One.

We strongly suggest watching this video in 8K (or 4K if your PC is unable to run it in such ridiculously high resolutions) even if you own a 1080p monitor. And that’s because the image will be sharper than your typical 1080p version. Yes, you won’t be getting the full 4K or 8K experience on your 1080p monitor, however you will get somehow close to it.

Enjoy!

  1. Beautiful! I want something like this in VR just as a tourism simulator. Just being able to go on walks in exotic locales, go adventuring, finding secrets, all using natural movements with motion controls.

  2. no way in hell this is 60fps
but it sure looks realistic if you don’t mind the occasional pop-in

  3. “Console gamers, on the other hand, may find it playable as the game runs with 21-30fps”

    Too funny!

      1. Indeed. I’d argue that the present console generation has been the most chronically underwhelming one since that in-between short-lived generation comprising of 3D0 and Atari Jaguar. If we’re classing those two as having been part of the Saturn/PS1/N64 era then this present generation could well be the worst console generation in history.

  4. I dont remeber playing even one game on consoles that would run that bad, here framerate it’s not even hitting 30 fps (22-24 fps) and on top of that there’s stuttering because of sli (the same fps feels much more smooth on single gpu and SLI requires much higher fps). We all know that consoles will be aleays weaker compared to high end PC but most games runs with playable framerates

    1. You can play it with even higher frame rates on pc if you drop down to console resolutions, So what are you trying to say?
This is at 8k remember, Consoles would be lucky to even get above single digit fps at this sort of resolution.
It’s not about being able to play it, It’s about testing how far you can push the current hardware. Drop down to 4k or 1440p and it will be playable with still more fps than console.

      1. Video description mention that GPU’s wasnt used to it’s fullest, and when SLI works right you can get even 8K 60fps with titanXP 3 or 4 sli. I belive here fps is very low because of crazy draw distance and even the best CPU is too weak for this game.

  5. I detailed about the scaling in the description, the 3 Way can output about 50 fps but the cpu is holding it back hard due to the Visibility settings being pushed to 12km. As noted, in most cases 2 way SLI would have performed the same (usage was 35-60% with 3) apart from the few scenes when the camera is turned in a direction with less land.
This is roughly 1.5x Titan X performance.

  6. My main issue with Arma 3 is the terrain pop-in and low poly models in the distance, how does it fix it? Solid State Drive?

      1. It’s a little bit better with the latest patch, but it does happen yes. (by terrain pop-in, i mean the grass in the distance, a lot of games still does that, at least in my pc)

  7. Its really not that impressive. The trees look terrible and too uniform, and the ground textures are sub par.
