Star Citizen Suffers 40GB Assets Leak, Bengal Carrier Rendered in the Consumer Version of CRYENGINE

Star Citizen and Cloud Imperium Games have suffered a massive assets leak. A couple of hours ago, a community manager for CIG posted a screen shot that included a partial URL. Naturally, some people guessed the rest and were able to get on a torrent containing around 40GB of unreleased assets.

And even though Cloud Imperium Games was quick to react and shut it down, two people managed to completely download this enormous pack of unreleased assets.

This basically means that this pack of leaked assets is currently available on the Internet, and YouTube’s member ‘Parias Denton’ has released a new video, showcasing the enormous Bengal carrier (that was included in that pack).

As Parias Denton noted, this is not the most up to date model for Bengal. Not only that, but Star Citizen is powered by an enhanced/extended version of CRYENGINE. As a result of that, these models may not be rendered correctly on the consumer versions of CRYENGINE that are currently available.

Still, this video gives us an idea of how massive these carriers actually are.

Enjoy!

The hype is real, its f’cking HUGE 😀 it look kind of smallish up close and traveling through the fighter bay until you see where you walk and the rooms. Starts putting things in scale and then from the map underneath. Its awesome

        Try this:
        CryEngine – Check.
        PC Only – Check….

          What does that mean?

I understand more than you’ll ever know. Don’t feel bad – it’s not your fault.

Is everybody sure they will keep this game as a PC Only? It would be nice to have some recent AAA PC Only titles. I don’t care if a lot of games port to consoles&vice-versa, but having some exclusives give a lot of “personality” to the platform. And since port is partially responsible for downgrading, in some cases like games with top graphics, it would be incredible to have exclusives so games could use 100% of PC’s capability.

The business model of Star Citizen is not possible on Consoles. Can’t say anything about Squadron 42. While technically the game is not possible on Consoles. They may make separate version of it that will play differently and will use different assets since the game will use SP campaigns to maintain MMO part of the game. Still not sure though… I personally don’t think Squadron 42 will be on Consoles but who knows. Star Citizen??? Nope.

          • Jay

This is exactly my thought as well. I wouldn’t be surprised if they came up with a console version as a ‘recruiting tool’ to get console gamers onto a PC. That’s what I would do. After all, most PC gamers started off as console gamers, then we grew up and wanted more control (a reflection of life in general, I suppose).

In the end traveling through the red hall I was like “this is a big ass ship” then I realized it was only that top part of the ship lol

The ship might need a taxi system to travel across it lol

It’s funny how Star Citizen started off as an attempt to make a space sim game that featured practical ships that appear functional and logical, but now they seem to have thrown their hands up and said, “Screw it, put as many fins and sh*t on there as you can, let’s make some money.”

I’m sure they have their reasons, but there seems to be far different design goals now than when I joined.

  • Umair Khan

Star Citizen’s final renderer will blow everyone’s mind later this year. It’s not even same Cry Engine. They are now calling it “Star Engine”. Current hangar module screenshots etc are all from unfinished renderer. Get ready to be blown away later this year by Squadron 42 campaign.

    • Kyrox

A game that actually improves from its WIP footage?
      Sorcery! Madness!

    • Ville N

They better optimize it well because it’s running badly even now. It’s pre-alpha I know..

      • Jay

Yeah, they’ve spoken of this before, I think. They basically need to create like 5 different models of just about every asset in the game in order to optimize the LOD, but (as you’ve said) it’s in Alpha, which means they’re working on the technical assets they’ll need to make the game actually work, first. Optimizations will be ongoing for years to come.

      • tommy walsh

Did they port the engine to 64bit already?

        • Umair Khan

Not yet… That will happen later this year with the release of Multi Crew ship’s module.

          • Psionicinversion

At least some of the 64bit is in that’s why we had to delete and redownload the game a few months ago

        • Ville N

          No idea

    • Amith Thomas

Wait, so all that bad lighting and all will be completely reworked ? Right now ships are lit somewhat globally by hangar lights, including the interior. Very few shadowing lights etc.

Man, this is good news. Can’t imagine how incredible it will look. 😀

Do you have a link to the source for this info btw ? On the forums perhaps ?

      • Umair Khan

That’s because the engine isn’t complete. It is still being worked on. New Foundry 42 Germany studio was opened just for altering the engine and it contains Cry Engine veterans. Both of these things were mentioned in one of the episodes of ten for the chairman and Studio tour video on their official channel.

Current renderer has a problem in rendering all light sources correctly. It will be completely overhauled before the final version. Character models that are currently being worked on has movie quality animations. I’ve seen some of those work in progress animations. None of these changes are implemented in the game yet. You’ll see some big changes in visuals in coming months. It’ll get better and better.

    • HAppY_KrAToS

Don’t even think they will stop taking more and more money for them, I mean, for their game.

It’s a matter of months before they say ‘OK people, we have reached 70 millions. If we manage to make another 10 million via the special ‘christmas’ pack, or whatever, we will build another ship, 3 different skins for our armor, 1 different type of ammo and 5 special artworks, that you will be able to buy, for only 100 dollars.’

And once they reach 80 millions, they will anounce something ‘great’, that they are currently creating, but they need some extra 15 millions to finish that item/extension.of course, they will need people’s help, and hope fans will be able to give another 10 or 15 millions…
And so on and so on.

I bet a 5000$ PC that by the end of 2016, the game won’t still have a final release date.
Why finishing the game or an anouncing a release date, when it is so easy to just keep accepting those infinite millions that fall from the sky…

      Joke, I call it.

I simply can’t accept and understand how backers /fans can accept they spend hundreds or thousands dollars backing the project, and they will still have to spend tons of cash, for every single item in the game, instead of having almost everything for free…

I can understand that a guy that buys the game might need to pay more cash for this or that thing… but a guy that has already spent 1000$ on it, why does he have to pay more cash for the smallest item or option in the game… crazy.

Now, they will tell the world that this leak will cost them 30 millions + 9 extra months of work…of course 😉

Go on guys, they need your help, prepare your credit cards. Again.

And by Mars 2016, there will be a giant fire, some of their backup servers will burn… they need your help.again.

      • Umair Khan

So, Sky is falling again? I’ll keep that in mind.

  • Silviu

    looks amazing!

  • n_ice_drone

I don’t know jack squat about space sims and I’ve never had much interest in sim games in general at all …but I have a strong feeling that will soon change 🙂

    • Umair Khan

Play Freelancer. Made by same team and very easy to get into. I recommend it to everyone who is new to Space genre. It’s not real sim, it’s a bit arcady which makes it more accessible. The game has aged well and has great story too. Unfortunately there is no way to legally buy the game… So, you’ll have to use pirated copy.

  • Noble Alfred

I do hope the final game runs well, I remember them releasing a demo or something which ran really well, hopefully the game scales to cards well.

  • SluttyMary

This ‘leak’ was planned. It’s marketing manipulation at its finest. /applauseCIG

This ship gave me a bit of a battlestar galactica feels. Even a shoddy early, leaked video is pretty damn awesome. I can’t wait to see their official ‘reveal’… but let’s be honest.. this was all designed to ‘leak’ and then be picked up by ALL the gaming venues garnering so much more support which equals cash… not that it is a bad thing because they are working miracles there.

    • Dudebro Zero

For planned leaks the company would make sure the leaked things look good. I’m certain that many if not most of the “leaks” we got over the last 2-3 years were actually planned marketing stunts! But this one doesn’t seem like that. I seriously doubt the devs would want their product seen this way.

  • Jay

Neat! Obviously a very early build – there are other videos of people exploring this ship that came out like years ago – the final version is going to be crazy. It’s larger, by its self, than some entire Crysis levels, yet it’s only one part of the world and you’ll be able to fly around it and attack it, land on it, raid it, get into first-person combat on it. I’m pretty sure it will be near-impossible to board, though. Can you imagine a real aircraft carrier getting boarded and taken? It could never happen in real life. Likely you’ll need an armada of ships to destroy one let alone board it.

They have an enormous amount of technical limitations to overcome! And then hackers will tear it apart. Really though, the Cryengine is probably the most hacked engine ever – soon after we get the game there will probably be thousands of dudes running around with millions of credits, invincible, invisible, and breaking the game every which way.

    • Psionicinversion

The information on client side had to match upto the server or it will kick you, there trying out lots of ways to tackle that type of stuff

  • Carnage2K4

TBH, it looks too small the be the Bengal… It’s about 1/6th the size really…

    • Psionicinversion

It is the Bengal carrier, there’s only one ship that looks like that although it could be the old model and not the new one

  • Theldos

A couple hours ago? No the leak happened on Friday, nothing was posted from the people who got the assets until today.
