Our reader “Stevanvel” has informed us about a new video for Wolfenstein: The New Order, showing 30 minutes of gameplay footage. This footage was captured during a livestream and according to Bethesda, the next stream will be on Thursday, April 24th at 2pm EST. Wolfenstein: The New Order is currently planned for a May 23rd release on PC, old-gen and current-gen consoles. Enjoy!

Honestly, it looks really generic with that shitty weapon wheel UI. Got to say, watching people play FPS with joypads is funny, the accuracy is awful.
Well, there is no number keys on a controller xD
So that’s why so many FPS games are shooting galleries now days with slow motion moments and one button kills. :p
Yeah xD but still, there are games like Shadow Warrior and Metro LL.
For me this looks good, the scripted sequences here are a bit dull but judging from previews(they’ve bashed the game bc they played exactly the same level, prologue) it seems like it’s going to be a solid FPS.
Man…u dont know what ur talking about…Metro LL has a deep history, gameplay…
Metro a FPS? I played it so much times, but as always on a Stealth approach…
xD
Console FPS are the worst. When FPS started to be developed as multiplats with gamepads in mind, that’s when the genre took a real quality dump. Maps got more simplified too. It’s all been downhill from there.
I’m not categorically against gamepads, they have their uses but they really should never be used for FPS games. That just ain’t right.
linear corridors health regen no recoil, easy enemies no depth.
I don’t care I still have it on pre order!!!! XD What do you expect most new age gamer’s don’t get w-a-s-d t shirts.
My gosh…that video quality is awful!

Just watch it on twitch
Thanks for the suggestion.
Here’s a link to the twitch recording which has much better quality compared to the youtube upload: http://www.twitch.tv/bethesda/c/4084073
Yikes. This doesn’t look very good at all. I was hoping they could turn it around after the Quakecon delay. So grey and dull.
Yeah…this iD Tech 5 makes everything washed out. The sad part is we can’t use SweetFX on it as its an OpenGL based engine…:(
Nice parody video, where’s my gameplay footage?
After watching this video i have mixed feelings about this game, but basically it makes me puke…….
Jesus Tapdancing Christ this looks so generic :O
okay guys. so it looks generic you say. So name three similar FPS games
in the last four years, they must’ve sliped by me, cuz i was missing
some WW2 shooters.
So people mistake a classic FPS game with
generic? Was this new wolf game supposed to revolutionize games or
something? Because i have not heard it in their goals. And id tech 5 is
too grey? What ? It’s not the 90’s with engine limitations in color, like Quake 1. You can use color if you want it now. The grey tint is WW2 games specific. Was COD 1 or 2 anything other than grey? Brothers in Arms? Allied Assault?
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? o_O
I just… I can’t even…
Generic meaning that there is nothing that sets it apart from other FPS. Loads of ammo, health everywhere, flashing items, one hit kill animations, shooting gallery scenes, health regen, unlock, perk system
people are overreacting this is the begining of the game in 1943 they are not gonna show you advanced gameplay and sci fi weapons or something out of the ww2 ordinary in the first mission.
Every gun sounds like a pea shooter, like a god damn air soft even. This is terrible. I did not expect it to be so bad.
I don’t even wanna think about how bad Doom 4,… eh Doom: The Reboot but annoyingly and in true Hollywood reboot fashion just called “Doom” to intentionally invite future confusion, will be.
The fact that we haven’t even seen as much as a single screenshot can’t be a good sign.
Wolfenstein The New Order is developed by MachineGames, while Doom is developed by id Software. We haven’t seen much because they restarted development from scratch not long ago and they will have something to show when its ready.
Yeah but between Doom 3 and Rage we have no idea which modern id is gonna show up for better or worse and Bethesda also have some say as publishers.
Nobody who actually worked on the really good id games works there anymore. Only the name remains.
On top of all that you have this general trend to make almost every shooter as much like COD as possible because they all think they can snatch some of that COD userbase. But those guys are busy buying and playing a new COD every year.
id say the guns sound and jump around pretty satysfingly, otheer than that what you see here is the begining of the game thus very generic, hopefull it gets better later on.
Okay…After reading all the comments, I have to ask…so what exactly were you people expecting from this game?!
Its a frickin’ Wolfenstein game…it is going to be a straight up shooter!
Now for the color, yes it looks dull I agree, and yes the guns sound horrible….but I am not sure what ppl were expecting since they are calling this “generic”?
Something that doesn’t copy every other shooter in every way. This reminds me of a linear Farcry 3.
Exactly what i thought ,FC3 yes sir.
as scripted as hell?
Yep.
I wasn’t expecting anything from this to be honest. What I would’ve liked is complex level design, smarter enemy AI, satisfying weapons that sound like more than bubble wrap being popped and maybe even no one button instakill melee animations.
But it’s all the usual COD fare and all that is exactly what makes it a generic shooter. I wouldn’t call this a straight up shooter. Go all the way back and play classic Doom if you want to know where the bar is set for what a straight up shooter should be.
I do agree with you about “smarter AI and complex level design”….But we will still have to wait and see the latter levels, hopefully it will be better.
This is basically the first level,a prologue setting up the story and introducing you to mechanics. Watch it on twitch for proper audio.
I don’t think they would put a map into the game if it was a linear shooter 😉
Looks like a Wolfenstein game to me, gonna have fun blasting through this game.
Exactly my point!
Maybe a bit out of topic here but that gameplay just reminded me how much i hate the 7° gen ,not sure why.
its the begining of the game, so hopefull the game changes later on, but i agree with you, lol i play unreal right now, propably one of the best fps ever.
I just re-installed Unreal last week…put all the ultra high S3TC textures, ENB + SSAA….
That game will forever be the most unique FPS game ever! A true gem…
What’s “7° gen”??
i sooo hate ironsights, i don’t want to have half of my screen gone and shoot someone i barely see. It takes half the screen away, zooms the scene, you need to do it to have the normal accuracy and your movement is restricted. This “stand still zoom and shoot” mechanic is so prevalent in shooters nowdays because of the restricted motion and agility a controller gives you. This is why fps games now are like shooting galeries, pop-the-rabbit kinda games. It all because of the controller. Maps are more linear, enemies are slow and if they do not run towards you, they just stand behind cover waiting for you to wait for them to pop up their heads so you cand shoot, your speed is decreased, weapons have accuracy only when zoomed in otherwise you cannot shoot anything, there is no more circle strafing no more dodging, no nothing, in mp games is all about who starts fireing first, who camps the corners, etc. I hate modern fps games !
I share your hatred for iron sights, really, but it is not the controllers’ fault if they are so prevalent right now. We had great shooting mechanics with no need for aim assistance on consoles. Think of Socom US Navy Seals online mode for PS2, Time Splitters 2, Killzone 1 or even Duke Nukem Forever PS3 which I found was a blast to play online.
As a console gamer I feel like FPS developers think of us as really bad at aiming with an analog stick, ignoring the fact that I for one had numerous epic shooting gaming moments on console with no iron sights or aim assist crap.
Another point, the first three Doom games played excellent on consoles (Doom 3 on Xbox 1 and Doom Classic Complete on PS3).
Iron sights and shooting galleries as a norm are a shame, but it’s a shame too that everyone seems to think nowadays that gamepad FPSs need these features to be “playable”. They don’t. They vastly underestimate what we can do with a gamepad – and I am not denying the fact that keyboard and mouse allow for more precision and speed. Gamepads are just not that bad, I’m fine with a tiny crosshair with no aim assist and no iron sight. They just need to really fine tune the sensitivity and behavior of the sticks, which I don’t think is anything easy.
if you can do wonders with a gamepad that does not mean anybody can and game makers always seem to go for the lowest denominator. Even so, a gamepad cannot give you the same speed and control a mouse +kb can. The FOV is also smaller meaning enemies have to travel less to exit your line of sight so you have an artificial increase in difficulty because you take away from what the player can see. This is most evident in halo 2 pc, to give an old example. Like it or not, it was the control scheme that required game design to change and go from FPS games in wich you have speed and need to dodge, jump around, and avoid incoming fire, with enemies that outnumber you, are fast and aggressive, to fps games where you move more slow, if you want to run then you cannot fire your weapon, you accuracy while moving and firing is poor and you need to zoom to be effective, but zooming takes away from movement. Enemies became “behind the cover” rabbits because the enemy gameplay flow must account for the way you are now able to move and shoot, they cannot come at you from 6 directions while firing, because you cannot put distance between you and them while firing accurately or be able to outmaneuver them with speed, only thing you can do is get behind cover and pray they do the same and stop coming at you so that you can then pick them off one by one when they stand behind cover with a bit of body exposed of course. They mostly come at you from the front 2-3-4 at a time fire a bit and then cover, so that encounters are more manageable. There is no more speedy circle strafe dodge jumping around rockets, switching weapons once every 2 seconds, you really cannot do it in a good manner with a controller and i can prove it to you by inviting you to play a game of quake 2 mp using a controller vs me using mouse kb. The speed is just not there, and not only speed, the uninterrupted flow of a mouse cannot be compared to the jerky way we aim with a controller, you don;t have finesse. Try hitting air rail gun shots in quake 2-3 with controller while moving and jumping…. you cannot do it constantly and with consistency. Gears of war was among the games that started, i say, this trend of game design and even though it was third person, the flow of gameplay and enemy ai in there bacame a standard in the whole industry almost. The guys at epic, they knew fast paced FPS desgin, they gave us Unreal Tournament and they knew what to change in Unreal’s game design to make it viable for the new control scheme, and after the success gears had, there was a mix of gears and halo gameplay flow that took over the whole industry. All games since have basically the same flow and gameplay design.
Does Quake 2 support gamepads ?
I’m not arguing the fact that “gamepad cannot give you the same speed and control a mouse +kb can”. I’m saying console FPSs are dumbed down for actually no reason. The difference between gamepad and mouse + keyboard should be relevant if PC gamers were to battle against console gamers. As long as they aren’t, I can’t see why we couldn’t play the exact same game (say, Quake 2 solo campaign). Multiplayer will never be a problem given that everybody plays with the same device.
The fact that most PC FPSs include in their game design the ability to save anywhere means there are trial and error mechanics involved. It’s not like PC gamers are supposed to beat their FPSs levels in a single row. Knowing this, I can’t see a reason why PC FPSs shouldn’t be translated “as is” to consoles.
“if you can do wonders with a gamepad that does not mean anybody can and game makers always seem to go for the lowest denominator.”
And it’s on them, not on the controller.
unreal tournament 3 does suport gamepads, we can play that also. YOu know what i hate, having to write dozens of lines just to hear a ” yes you are right but you are not because of reasons, mostly because i belive so” There is no argumentation in your posts ony the idea that YOU belive it to be this way and that is it. Why, after admittind the controllers limitations do you go on dismissing my points without actually giving any backup to your claims. Sure, maybe games did not need to change for the controller and we could have just adapted, trouble is not everybody is as good with a stick as you are and games are made for, like i have said, lowest denominator. Meaning guys who play poorly. The limitations of the controller are obvious in single player as they are in multiplayer, have fun playing serious sam 1, 2 with gamepad. And about the saves, not having quicksave made design revolve around having bits of gameplay followed by portions where things calm down, ( dead space is a very used example in game design school of just that ) for checkpoints, brought us regenerating health and made game flow more linear.
For once i wish people on the internet learn to accept valid points and try to increase their knowledge on a particular topic rather than dismissing it fot not being totally aligned with their views.
in the game’s defence, the crosshair doesnt seem to open up when you move so maybe ironsights are not mandatory.
wolfenstein 2009 was the same i think, was playing it about a year ago trying to finish it but i got sidetracked and never did, so i see no reason for this to be different but if it is not then why would he use ironsights on close to medium range ? Anyway, my rant was not about wolf in particular, it was general. Still i never say no to some wolf.
no wolfenstein 2009 was too easy, small fov and had alot of accuracy loss with the crosshair.
I will answer to your question by simply pointing out how badly they refuse to show gameplay in trailers and show more cinematics, its like the entire game industry has to follow the marketing techiniques of a few select games and focus on having a story in the game evne when thats not what the game is about.
People saying: “Oh it’s a Wolfenstein game you shouldn’t expect much”
Yeah, but they expect me to pay full price for a game that offers nothing more than the name of the franchise.
“Oh but is Wolfenstein it is supposed to be that way”
20 sodding yeas latter and I am supposed to play the same game?
Well i got 3 problems with this.
First of all they dont show any new gameplay and its too pixelated.
Also this is the begining of the game so spoilers.
Regarding “generic gameplay” its 1943 and the intro of the game, this gameplay footage is the begining it doesnt show nor any of the sci fi weapons nor the gameplay and level design ideas, it is the intro of the game.
oh and that part when that huge iron dog bites his leg and does nothing to him is funny 🙂 Of course a wolf game in wich the player limps 90% of the time would be dumb, but funny
