Yesterday, we informed you about an RTX Remix Mod for the first Unreal Tournament game. And, from the looks of it, people have figured out a way to load maps from the first single-player Unreal game.
Do note that this is a WIP Mod, and it does not fully support the first Unreal. Not only that but there are numerous graphical glitches and visual issues. For example, the reflections on the gun are glitching like crazy. Still, this is something cool that may interest some of our old-school FPS fans.
To make this RTX Remix Mod work with the first Unreal game, you’ll have to manually load a map into the UT Engine. In other words, you won’t be able to drop this mod into your Unreal folder and play it. After all, the mod right now only supports Unreal Tournament 99.
Here’s also something interesting. I never realized that a Scaarj was in the air vent at the beginning of the first level. The RTX Remix removes the fake fog, giving you a greater view distance. Thus, you’ll immediately notice Scaarj when crawling the air vent.
As I said, this mod is still a WIP. So, don’t expect it to knock your socks off. For instance, the game still uses its original assets. So, I’d personally love to see some PBR materials and higher-quality textures, as well as some more manually placed lights. These changes should tremendously improve the game’s visuals. As for the 3D models, they should remain the way they are.
In January, we shared several RTX Remix Mods that are in the works. As such, you can take a look at screenshots and videos for Tomb Raider 2, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Manhunt, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, and Garfield Kart RTX Remix. Last week, we also shared a video from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas RTX Remix. Oh, and last month, we shared videos for Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 and Midnight Club 2.
Speaking of Path Tracing Mods for older titles, you might also want to check out the following ones. Modders have released early demos for their Path Tracing Mods for Tomb Raider, Max Payne and Call of Duty 4. Do note that the COD4 Mod is a “proof of concept” demo, and it does not look that great. On the other hand, the RTX Remix Mod for Max Payne looks amazing (at least in my opinion). Let’s also not forget the RTX Remix for COD: WoW. And then there is this amazing RTX Remix Mod for Need for Speed: Underground 2. Oh, and don’t forget to give a go at this RTX Remix for Unreal Tournament 2004. Finally, you can download Path Tracing Mods for Doom 2, Quake, Half-Life and Serious Sam.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!
Kudos to NVIDIA’s Jacob Freeman for sharing the screenshots and the video!

Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2. every surface looks like a wet mall from a retrowave video.
The textures need replacing for it to look good.
Shut the hell up john papadopolous
Finally, Unreal.
This is my most favourite game. I still remember how i was trying to make it run on a TNT2. Then i switched to a Voodoo 3 3000 and omg….
Played the game on 2x Voodo2’s in SLI and had a blast in it along with glquake+glqw.
Its a real shame few dev’s really knows how to push the insane hardware that’s available today – Seems the lazy/code monkeys gluing together 100 over-bloated middleware/code plugins/api’s and keep over utilizing performance hits like polymorphic classes (how would have though cpu prediction lose its efficiency when its 10000 code paths rather than 10 and that’s not to mention the cache “bloat” it produces… strange!) are the norm. And that in engines that are made for every darn platform with few specific optimizations can really cripple the end performance.
Then you should look forward to running SteamOS on your PC one day, because Valve is doing exactly that, further optimizing the whole software stack with each new release.
Future is looking good… 😉
To implement RTX in Unreal would require careful light placement/editing in UE to maintain the original art-direction and atmosphere.
