Take a look at this Unreal Gold Remaster in Unreal Engine 5

Yesterday, we informed you about an unofficial remaster of Deus Ex in Unreal Engine 5. And earlier today, DXU24 shared a video, showcasing a remastered version of Unreal Gold in Unreal Engine 5. It looks cool, so be sure to watch it.

Now as you will see, this project is in a really early development state. Unreal Gold in UE5 currently suffers from stutters and glitches. As its creator claimed, the game needs more work and polish. So, don’t expect to be playing it anytime soon.

This Unreal Remaster keeps the same cool look as the original game. As we can see, the modder has used the original art assets. However, and mainly thanks to UE5, he also used a few techniques to make the textures and lighting a bit better.

From what we know, this is a side-project for DXU24. As of yet, the main focus of DXU24 is to bring the classic Deus Ex to Unreal Engine 5 with VR support. However, it appears that other UE games may also benefit from it.

Do note that this mod is not related in any way to Unreal Redux. Unreal Redux is a mod that promises to feature numerous Quality of Life improvements, will add new features, and will stay true to its classic roots. And, contrary to this remaster, it will not upgrade the game’s engine to UE5.

Speaking of Unreal, you may also want to try this Unreal Engine 4 Prototype Demo. Unreal Prototype Remaster features seven maps, in total, from the original game. However, only three of them are finished. These are the Vortex Rikers, Rrajigar Mine and Depths of Rrajigar. Now the good news is that there are enemies to fight in the finished maps. So yeah, that’s at least something.

UnrealHD v3.0 is another cool mod for the original game. This mod overhauls all classic Unreal & Unreal Tournament skins. So, make sure to download it if you plan to re-visit it.

Enjoy the video and stay tuned for more!

  1. I can certainly understand why most would want to mod this 25 year old game but for me I like to replay it every few years as it was. Reminds me of a great era in gaming in the 90s. The game was amazing back in the day.

    1. Yeah, I completely feel the same way even though I do welcome those VR mods which for me breathe new life into them. Being able to experience these old gems from a whole new perspective can be pretty unreal, pun intended.

    2. no one has made a game like this till this day and the closest thing that captures somewhat the feeling is effigy.

    3. mid/late-90s was just pure gold! And Unreal was just truly jaw-dropping on release. No game made an impression on me like Unreal did…that Castle fly-by seeing it first time! 😯

  2. It has slighlty more reasonable shadowing and lighting, but falls a bit short for me… And the improved textures are just ugly IMO.
This game screams for a proper remake in a newer UE…
I like the idea of doing it in a retro version like UE2 to keep it somewhat close in feel to the original.

  3. In a world that is not ruled by madness, this game would get official updates, especially considering the owner has now enough money to build a country, instead it gets trashed by its own devs and it’s not even available on their OWN fcking store, it’s like they’re proudly trying to erase their past, well good luck Epic, keep trying to forget your past while we desperately keep trying to forget your present

      1. I love UT2004, i still play it to this day, but otherwise i agree for the rest, the 1st and 2nd GoW were decent too but not as memorable

          1. Liked it too, but 2004 is where i spent hundreds of hours, the content for this game was huge, same for the mod scene, in the end we could just agree that UT was great until UT3

          2. i always liked the way the assault rifle and the shock rifle looked in ut2003 but other than that yeah, wish the tournament was longer, so many unused levels.

  4. see unreal as you’ve never seen it before!!!! slightly noisier textures, a F#$ked up skybox and quasi accurate lighting effects. you must’ve thought so too, it weren’t “amazing”.

  5. Same graphics, more glitches, missing “suns”, no improved geometry, no improved cloth physics…
    What can I say?

  6. John, for the love of God, it looks even worse than the original game.

  7. which side is suppose to be the unreal 5 version as opposed to the pitiful looking unreal 1, so i can say “yes yes obviously it looks much better in that comparison”

  8. you are in reality a good webmaster The website loading velocity is amazing It sort of feels that youre doing any distinctive trick Also The contents are masterwork you have done a fantastic job in this topic
