The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – EGX 2014 Developer Session

During this year’s EGX, CD Projekt RED held a 30-minute developer session. The demo that the team showcased was the same with the one that was recently released to the public, though we are pretty sure that The Witcher fans will find this session quite interesting. In addition, the developers have answered a number of questions at the end of the session, so be sure to listen to what they had to say about the story, players’ choice, Geralt’s swimming abilities, and more. Enjoy!

  1. I don’t know if it’s okay to give a link to another site but this is a really important and a great article for PC gamers written by Durante of GeDoSaTo so I think DSO should consider making an article about it. Especially in this age where crap PC ports are sprouting here and there

    1. This definitely should get some attention, but alas, I think most developers know everything written in this article. Why they keep making crappy ports then? Because PC gamers allow them to do it.

  2. To be honest , so far I’m not blown away by Witcher 3, unlike Witcher 2 . It seems like they want to make casuals happy . They haven’t addressed a single issue that PC gamers had with the second game . Scr*w the controller , just show us how it works on mouse and keyboard . Show us the depth of the game , show us day and night cycle , show us improvements you’ve made to alchemy path , show us the skill tree , tell us about exclusives graphical features that PC version will have etc . Hopefully they will address these issues and will show us footage from the final build soon . They are only showing hack n slash gameplay with no RPG elements . Witcher 2 was advertised as a true RPG .

    1. Bul***it, take off your nostalgia goggles.

Witcher 3’s main marketing campaign will start next year, just like Witcher 2’s where all the good stuff came out 2 months before release. This was mentioned at the beginning of the year in a conference and has been the norm with CDPR.

Exactly what haven’t they addressed? They addressed plenty of things, do you want them to keep repeating things all the time?
Witcher 2 had a lot of QTE crap, there will be none in Witcher 3.
Witcher 2 had the stealth sections nobody liked, that has been removed.
A lot of people disliked the Witcher 2’s list based inventory so that’s been switched back to Witcher 1 style with icons.
Witcher 2’s combat had the big issue of completely random unpredictable animations of varying lengths, that has been fixed.

“Show us the depth of the game”
You know how hard that is, if you’ve played Witcher you can’t show the ‘depth’ of the gameplay in 2 minutes. They released the entire E3 footage which shows it’s a Witcher game just like the last two.

“Show us the day and night cycle”
What for? This is not a new thing, neither to the franchise not the industry we’ve had this for almost a decade now. What the hell is the point of that?
