During a THQ Nordic meeting, Deep Silver and Ys NET presented a new in-engine trailer for Shenmue 3. This trailer shows the current state – visual-wise – of the game, though we expect it to look better than what is being showcased here. After all, this is pre-alpha footage.
Yesterday, Deep Silver announced that the game will be delayed until 2019. Deep Silver and THQ Nordic decided to delay it so they can give some extra time to the development team so it can further polish it.
Shenmue 3 is powered by Unreal Engine 4 and is in development at Yu Suzuki’s independent company, Ys Net, located in Tokyo along with many original Shenmue team members. The game has been under development for more than three years as it was officially revealed at Sony’s E3 2015 press conference.
Enjoy (trailer starts at 2:16 mark point).

I’m not impressed,really…
well, in terms of graphics, it looks like the new Yakuza, what more do you want from a semi-indie game?
Interesting that they stick to the original proportions / art style rather than going current-gen photo-realistic. That’s something I think we’ll see more of the closer we get to photo-realism.
The stylised realism look has been done intentionally for a few reasons. Yu Suzuki stated that realism has become the norm and for Shenmue III to stand out they’re opting for a stylised approach, but also admitted their budget surely can’t match up with AAA games anyway (where the most pixel-pushing approaches to realism are).
What was unsaid is that Shenmue III is trying to retain the scale of unique NPCs seen in the previous games, and not even AAA games dare approach that idea with a realistic art style. So, if they wanted to ensure one of the core things that made Shenmue unique crosses over to the third game, a less time/resource intensive art style would be needed.
It’s not a new trailer. It’s the progress video from last year with a few new shots from a more recent build.
I can’t wait till this game to finally come out I fully enjoyed the 1st 2 on dreamcast
