The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Update

Here’s The Witcher 3 Next-Gen at 8K with over 100 mods

YouTube’s “Digital Dreams” has shared a video, showcasing The Witcher 3 Next-Gen at 8K with over 100 mods and Reshade Ray Tracing. This heavily modded version of TW3 aims to be as great-looking as possible. So, let’s take a look at it, shall we?

To capture this gameplay footage, the YouTuber used an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X with 32GB of DDR5 and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090. Sadly, though, he did not include any Performance Overlay. As such, we don’t know the framerates the RTX4090 can push at such high resolution.

Now while the YouTuber claimed that he has shared his modlist, I can’t find a recent one on his page. So, he’s either using an old list of mods, or he hasn’t released the most recent one.

The good news here is that you can use the following mods to get close to the visuals that are in this video. And, to be honest, I don’t really see why you should resort to Reshade Ray Tracing. The Witcher 3 Next-Gen offers native RT effects. So, for the best image quality, I suggest using it. Just skip all the Reshade RT mods for this particular title.

So, what mods will you need to overhaul the game’s graphics? Well, for starters, you can download a really cool first-person mod. Furthermore, the Characters Reworked Project improves the quality of over 100 characters. Let’s also not forget this mod that lets you kill most in-game NPCs. Earlier this month, we also shared mods that restored the boat races and added 15 new quests. A modder has also restored the reputation system that CDPR cut from the game.

In December 2023, we shared this mod that restores content that was cut from all previous The Witcher games. Then we have the Witcher 3 Next-Gen Combat Redux Mod. In January 2024, we shared a must-have gameplay overhaul mod. And then, in February 2024, we shared a mod that attempted to remove the fake “hero” light from the game’s cut-scenes. There is also this mod that allows you to explore a part of the world from the first The Witcher game in TW3. Oh, and don’t forget this mod that allows you to ride a Griffin.

We also have some mods for those playing with Ray Tracing. The RTX Mirrors Mod adds proper reflections to the game’s mirrors. Then we have this mod that improves the fire effects via Ray Tracing Global Illumination. And finally, this mod fixes the Ray Tracing bleach issues.

And that is that. By using these mods, you can improve the game’s graphics. So, be sure to at least use some of them. Oh, and in a few months, we’ll have the HD Reworked Project. This mod will come out in November 2024. And I can’t wait to get my hands on it.

Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

    1. How? No, not if you wanted an immersive, believable, very well realized fantasy world.
Though i have to admit, it requires more patience than i have nowadays.

  1. Just unnecessary, 8k makes no sense if you're playing on a PC monitor like 2 feet from your face also depending in the size of the monitor. You're just using bloated file sizes for no reason

  2. Looks the same at 1440p when you inject DLAA with DLSS Tweaks and throw a little CAS.fx sharpening on top. The problem is temporal AA. It blows. For anyone with an RTX GPU it should be the first mod you use. Temporal AA always sucked and always will suck. You may as well spread vaselline on a screen to get rid of jaggies.

    1. They don't use TAA, the game used TAAU which at the end of the day is an upscaled AA like DLSS and FSR except with more motion blur and slightly less performance. DLSS Quality looks and performs considerably better than the native TAAU

None of this fixes the poor CPU threading that causes a severe CPU bottleneck in many parts of the game. Look at the opening of the video in Novigrad. I don't think he was even getting 30 FPS and it gets a lot worse in the main square where they burn the witches which is why you never seen anyone show off their mod list there. You have 2 threads constantly hitting 100% while most of the rest do almost nothing. Compare it to the way the same game engine threads in Cyberpunk and it's not even close.

      1. Why would you use DLSS if you can use DLAA? One upscales from a lower resolution and the other one is basically hardware assisted AA. 1440p monitor=DLAA in game or with DLSS Tweaks, 4k = 4k DLSS cus the performance saving is worth it and 4k DLSS actually looks really good unlike lower resolutions. Even 4k FSR looks decent.

RT is the reason the game runs horribly on CPU. I didn't even bother with the highest end options on a 4090 because CPU gets hit way too hard. I used the PS5 settings on RT ran at 1440p DLAA with DLSS Tweaks. Game ran great at high fps with frame gen.

I think the PS5 settings was performance GI and ambient occlusion, no shadows (they looked awful anyways due to draw in) and no reflections though that has since been modded to actually not be awful. The screen space reflections were just as good on everything in actual gameplay cept mirrors even with that mod. On my next playthrough I will bother with reflections but they aren't make or break.

GI was the big RT improvement and I wouldn't even try PS5 settings on something less than a 4070 at a true 1440p with DLAA and that only works on a console controller with frame gen to get like 75ish FPS that is fine with latency on a controller but not a mouse. 4090 will be cruising at 144hz. FPS> Resolution+DLAA>all the other crap. I would honestly rather play at 1440p DLAA and HBAO + and high FPS than 1440 DLSS and crappy FPS any framegen.

  3. the original art direction has a strong backbone so these mods not gonna change the atmosphere of this game, they just add to the already impressive looking title.

    1. Never got that feeling with RDR2, I'm only 10 percent in it, after all these years. I just don't like Rockstar games

      1. I suggest giving it a shot and pulling through. If you liked the Witcher I don't see how you cannot like rdr2 in the end

  4. This game was a grand achievement in gaming history. And then look at what Dei turned the company into afterwards. Proof DEI destroys everything.

  5. I don't understand.. why collections of mods (like this one)
aren't put together in a zip or rar file, compressed and a link provided on a YouTube channel and people like the community who love games
So we can have a preview
and the provided link..in say the description

if everyone did this (created a small website dedicated to collections/modpacks
It would make life easier for those who are not computer literate.
Maybe have a forum, like the Witcher 3 Wild Hunt when it was bustling with people talking and laughing …all that good stuff.
