Here’s another trailer for the fan remaster of the first Unreal game, Unreal Redux

It’s been over two years since our last look at Unreal Redux. Well, today we have another new trailer for it. This trailer shows off its latest build. And, while it’s not indicative of the final version, it can give you an idea of what you can expect from it.

Unreal Redux is a remaster of the first Unreal game. This isn’t meant to be a remake. Instead, think of it as what Nightdive Studios would achieve with it.

Unreal Redux promises to bring a lot of quality-of-life improvements while staying true to the classic game. The mod will add new features, like using “grab” as “use” with a pulsing overlay on the screen. Players will also be able to loot dead human bodies and interact in new ways with the Nali species. On top of that, modder Krull0r will add some cool new NVIDIA PhysX decorations to make the game feel more alive.

Players can also expect new enemy projectile effects, as well as new stunning player weapon effects and new explosion effects. The mod also promises to have immersive new sound effects, and it will feature footstep sounds based on the ground material.

Unreal Redux has been in development for over seven years. We first reported on this project back in May 2018. And, unfortunately, there is still no ETA on when it will come out.

It’s a bummer we don’t have a release date for it. Still, this may be something that will interest some of our readers. So, if you are a die-hard Unreal fan, I suggest watching the trailer.

Kudos to our reader ‘durka durka’ for bringing this to our attention!

  1. Since 2018 to remake a technically very primitive and simple game and still no telling on a roadmap or an ETA… So he's going super slow. I don't blame him but I'm not expecting it this decade either.

  2. Since 2018 to remake a technically very primitive and simple game and still no roadmap or ETA… So he's going super slow… I don't blame him, but by the time he releases it, it will feel as antiquated as it is now.

  3. Problem with the original is that the level design wasn't very friendly in finding your way around or what to do next.

    1. Unlike huge way markers, and hand holding like a brain-dead person, that is how it always was with old-school games. You had to explore, observe, and remember things.

    2. That's what I liked about it, and the other games from that era.
You can find your way around without much work because they're linear and felt just about right.
Classic gamers aren't fond of the new hand holding "hints" and ADHD sh*t all over the screen.

  4. Release as a work in progress and let people who wanna play it now, play it now. It doesn't have to be version 1.0.

    1. There's also Unreal Nightmare is another advanced version of the Main Unreal Campaign and it got released in 2017 anyway.

      1. Had to dig to find that one, thanks for the heads up. It's cool for sure, but this Redux looks much more polished, but who knows if it ever gets released.

  5. I might have to compare Unreal Nightmare to Unreal Redux once Unreal Redux gets released anyway.

  6. meanwhile the RTX remix mod already blows this away visually but I do like these visual upgrades and QOL improvements. I wonder what this is running on, if it's still DirectX9 then RTX remix could be layered on top of this still.
