Free fan-made Halo game powered by Unity Engine, Installation 1, gets its first cinematic trailer

The team behind Installation 01 has released the first cinematic trailer for its title, created by Matthew Lake. Installation 01 is a 100% free Halo fan game and artistic tribute to the series that is powered by the Unity Engine.

Installation 01 is a fan game created by Halo fans from all over the world. The aim of this project is to be both an artistic tribute to Halo and a fun way to experience Halo on PC, Mac and Linux free and legally. The team’s primary goal is to recreate the multiplayer experience of the Halo trilogy, bringing in features from all Halo games to make the ultimate multiplayer sandbox.

The team is carefully following the rules set forth in Microsoft’s Game Content Usage Rules. As such, no content in this game has been “ripped” from the Halo games, and all assets are handmade.

Enjoy!

  1. Even with them following Microsoft’s rules, it’s hard to see MS not shutting this down if they decide to bring Halo 6 to PC. While free and using original assets, they could probably argue IP infringement pretty easily considering they did essentially just create Halo assets from scratch. The team would just have to make original character designs at that point though.

    1. Halo to Oval
      Master Chief to President Master
      Spartans to Athenians
      Convedent to Converment

Christ, this this easy. They should just hire me.

    2. Haven’t they already got Microsoft’s blessing? I seem to recall them only making them change the name of the project.

  2. Not even a Halo fan, but I’m definitely looking forward to this. I can’t help but appreciate how much work was put into it. They even went through the trouble of making a cinematic trailer. Without a doubt one of the most impressive fan projects I’ve ever seen.

  3. The size difference between Elites and Spartans might be lore-correct but how would that work in MP. Actual different hitboxes this time? In Halo 3 I think they used slightly differently shaped hitboxes but the same size. Elites were harder to headshot from behind or something. But elites were the same height and roughly the same width as Spartans, I think. Man, it’s been so long since my Xbox 360 phase.
