Now here is something cool. The developer behind Backrooms: The Project has shared a video, showcasing what Silent Hill 2 could look like in Unity Engine. This looks bloody amazing. So, be sure to watch the video after the jump.
For those unaware, Backrooms: The Project is an immersive first-person found footage horror adventure game. In this game, players will explore the different levels of a mysterious liminal dimension known as the Backrooms. As such, they’ll have to find and utilize items to aid them in their escape.
Now the bad news is that the dev has only shared the video on Twitter/X. As such, it’s really of low quality. That’s a bummer as I’d love to see a higher-quality version of it. The good news is that it looks incredible. At least for a solo fan project.
And, you want to know what’s funny here? This “fan remake” does not suffer from any stutters. Heh, I guess the dev knows how to make an impression. Take notes Bloober Team.
This fan remake of SH2 in Unity Engine has managed to retain the art style of the original. It doesn’t look as advanced as the official remake. Its low quality can also hide a lot of visual issues or shortcomings. However, on its own, it looks awesome. So, kudos to the dev for creating something like that.
This isn’t the only fan remake of a game in Backrooms: The Project. In April 2024, we shared a video showcasing the iconic Doom E1M1 map in it. If you haven’t watched it, I highly recommend doing so. Similar to this SH2 recreation, it looks fantastic.
To be honest, I’d love to see these two maps being included in Backrooms: The Project as hidden levels. Now THAT would be an awesome easter egg. So, let’s hope that the dev will use them wisely.
Speaking of Silent Hill 2, Bloober Team hasn’t released any patch for it as of yet. As I’ve already said, there isn’t ANY mod that can reduce or fix the game’s traversal stutters. However, there are some cool mods that you can try. For instance, you can enable NVIDIA Ray Reconstruction for better visuals. You can also remove the 30fps cap from the in-engine cutscenes. And then we have the DLSS 3 Frame Generation Mod. Oh, and if you are not interested in a paid mod, you can force AMD FSR 3.0 Frame Generation. Just use the guide from this article to enable it.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!
Since I can’t play the #SilentHill2Remake right now, I quickly made my own we-have-silent-hill-2-at-home version.#madewithunity #indiedev #gamedev #indiegame #unity3d pic.twitter.com/hhvjPiylQB

Wish there was more AAA games in unity, can only think of System shock remake. There is a base scale/rendering/appearance difference compared to others, Id like more "diversity" of engines
That will never happen, there a clear shift to stay away from Unity the last few years, is lagging behind Unreal in terms of 3D rendering by a mile, and there no sane AAA developer that will choose Unity over Unreal for 3D.
They would be better off using their in house engines.
Not true, a lot of mobile games & indie games uses unity. And as much as we don't like that mobile space, they still exists.
"A lot of mobile games and indie games uses Unity", is clear you don't even understand the concept of AAA.
Not to mention indie developers been shifting to Unreal as well.
Everything have to be a confrontation/polarizing with people on this site. So because I said mobile and indie uses unity, that means I don’t know what AAA is? Look here man, maybe I wasn’t clear or you just didn’t understand what mobile has done to the market. MOBILE MAKES WAY MORE MONEY THAN AAA. There are way more casual gamers that “serious gamers”. Alot of studios also still uses heavily modded variations of other engines.
Everytime I see any regular studio just using unreal, we all know why. I’m just stating what is on terms of mobile have l gaming, v so don’t shoot. Like it or not, they exists, here to stay and make easy more money with far less effort. In terms of my opinion, I think unreal is garbage. It’s the oldest engine there is but it’s garbo and it’s because anyone can get their hands on it and release any rubbish, therefore the rubbish you see and experience is what we use to rate that tool. Traversal Stutter anyone?
agreed about the confrontational nature…We are the Based gamers, that's why we're here, leave the hostility to cesspits like reddit or whatever(folks just stuck in that mode). we need to tribe up.
So you go from missing the point of the whole discussion, to make false claims?
Cause mobile games do not make more money than AAA games, there not even a single mobile game in the top 500 list of most profitable games in 2023.
Then you claim Unreal is old, only someone who never touched Unreal Engine claims Unreal Engine 5 is the same as Unreal Engine 1, not to mention in terms of how long it's been around, is as old as Unity, proving again you don't know what you talking about.
I suggest you stick to the topic, that is AAA games not mobile games (where obviously Unity has more market, due to it's strenghts in 2D rendering and multi-platform, something that Unreal Engine 5.X closed the gap with), and actually do some research before continuining this avenue of discussion.
As for traversal stuttering, has to do with the developers and not the engine, and sometimes even the platform itself, mostly NVidia exclusively that been facing issues, I had no stutters in most Unreal Engine 5.X titles with AMD.
And you really don't wanna go that way, cause Unity projects run and look much worse.
System shock remake switched and its on unreal so think something else.
great now that the game is on unreal engine john is doing the unity engine thing.
looks awful without those stutters
i thought it was gonna be fixed camera showcase but its just more goyslop
The compression artifacting in that video is so bad that I can hardly tell what I'm looking at.
