News flash everyone. Valve announced today that it will be re-designing its Steam controller. The Steam controller will no longer support a touch-screen. Instead, Valve will implement a a traditional D-Pad alongside four buttons. Wondering what this new controller will look like? Well, below you can find a picture from a presentation during Valve’s Steam Dev Days that is currently underway. Keep in mind that this is a picture from a prototype WIP model, so the final version may be completely different from what we’re witnessing. What’s your opinion on this new controller? According to Valve, we’ll have new deals each and every day, and more than 2000 games will go on sale. Great news everyone as Valve’s SteamOS has just been released. The client is 960MB in size and can be downloaded from here (torrent link here). According to Valve, SteamOS is a fork (derivative) of Debian GNU/Linux. The first version (SteamOS 1.0) is called ‘alchemist’ and it is based on the Debian ‘wheezy’ (stable 7.1) distribution. Sweet Mary of Jesus. Valve has released a new update for DOTA 2 that comes with one hell of changes, fixes and tweaks. This is perhaps the biggest update we’ve seen for DOTA 2 and since it changes almost every aspect of the game’s stats, we’re pretty sure that some players will get slightly annoyed by some of the changes. Machinima has shared a new fan short film, based on Valve’s classic FPS title. As its description reads, this is intended to celebrate the game franchise and is in no way affiliated with Half-Life and Valve official works. The film focuses on the game’s iconic weapon, the crowbar. When an experiment goes wrong, it unleashes a catastrophic event on the Black Mesa Research Facility, and blah blah blah. Valve has released a new video that gives us a quick look at some games being played with the prototype version of the Steam Controller. The Controller showcased here is the same version with the one that Valve will be shipping to 300 Steam users later this year. The team has promised to release more demonstrations with other games soon, so stay tuned for more. The Steam Controller seems way better than other controllers and surprisingly enough, even strategy games seem playable with it. Yes, even this controller cannot come close to the keyboard+mouse combo, however it seems like the best alternative we’ve seen thus far. Enjoy!
