News flash everyone. Valve announced today that it will be re-designing its Steam controller. The Steam controller will no longer support a touch-screen. Instead, Valve will implement a a traditional D-Pad alongside four buttons. Wondering what this new controller will look like? Well, below you can find a picture from a presentation during Valve’s Steam Dev Days that is currently underway. Keep in mind that this is a picture from a prototype WIP model, so the final version may be completely different from what we’re witnessing. What’s your opinion on this new controller? Well, it appears that Steam is going to have all your money these coming two weeks as Valve has launched its Winter 2013 Sale event. According to Valve, we’ll have new deals each and every day, and more than 2000 games will go on sale. So, today PC gamers can find Dead Island: Game of the Year Edition, Dishonored and Bioshock: Infinite with a 75% discount, while Batman: Arkham Origins and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance come with a 50% and a 33% discount, respectively. Great news everyone as Valve’s SteamOS has just been released. The client is 960MB in size and can be downloaded from here (torrent link here). According to Valve, SteamOS is a fork (derivative) of Debian GNU/Linux. The first version (SteamOS 1.0) is called ‘alchemist’ and it is based on the Debian ‘wheezy’ (stable 7.1) distribution. Valve has released a new video that gives us a quick look at some games being played with the prototype version of the Steam Controller. The Controller showcased here is the same version with the one that Valve will be shipping to 300 Steam users later this year. The team has promised to release more demonstrations with other games soon, so stay tuned for more. The Steam Controller seems way better than other controllers and surprisingly enough, even strategy games seem playable with it. Yes, even this controller cannot come close to the keyboard+mouse combo, however it seems like the best alternative we’ve seen thus far. Enjoy! Valve has revealed the specs for the prototype model of its Steam Machines. According to the company, 300 units will be made based on these mixed specs, and this prototype model will be sent to beta testers. Some of those prototypes will be equipped with Nvidia’s Titan cards, while others will be packed with GTX780s, GTX760s, and GTX660s. And despite the fact that Nvidia has teamed Valve for the Steam Machines, users will be able to replace the GPUs with ones from the ‘red’ team. Uber Entertainment’s Chandana Ekanayake (Game Dev, Art Director and Exec Producer), Jonathan Mavor (CTO / Co-Founder) and Forrest Smith (Software Engineer) were happy with it, and they were not the only ones who tweeted/shared positive comments about Valve’s upcoming controller. Okay, admit it everyone; you thought that Valve’s third announcement would be either about Half Life 3 or Left 4 Dead 3 (or another game). Go ahead, admit it, don’t lie to us.
