We all know that GTA IV can look gorgeous with mods. However, what ‘darkdeus‘ has managed to achieve with some mods and texture packs while rendering the game at 4K is simply too good to be true. This fella has shared a number of images, showing how spectacular GTA IV can look. And with GTA V coming next year, we can’t wait to see what modders can achieve. all the textures are just really high res photos of buildings, so obviously when looking at a photo of that its gonna look “real” but its not really anything to shout about..literally any system is capable of displaying high res photos at this point…its when you add actual geometry and lighting and all this that it becomes incredibly taxing, I literally have no doubt in my mind that x1 and ps4 could do what this does just as well..
Do the game devs look upon these things that the community does? They should.
believe it or not they are part of the same community and being a dev is just their professional lives.. they are all gamers like us. I follow lot of devs on twitter and they tweet the same awesome crap as all gamers do.
No. Game devs have to make the game render at a good frame rate. It’s easy to make a game pretty when frame rate is not a concern.

Not so sure of that when we PC gamers since the PS2/Xbox/GC got used to receive quite the number of awful ports both in visuals and framerate.

I don’t think you understand what bullshot means. It’s when a screenshot looks impressive but the final result is nothing like the screenshot. For example Watch Dogs.
You can play gta iv with theses mods enabled right now and it will look exactly like the screenshots. Sure it might not run at 4K 120fps but nobody has the ability to run such a thing.

You do understand that a mod is essentially a hack with or without the permission of the developer, right? Once you have access to the root folders and files, anything can be changed.
Lighting is what makes these shots look good. Textures and modeling aren’t exactly great, but in an open world game with dynamic lighting that’s to be expected.

The key to realism lies in the LIGHTING. Look at the forth pic. That pic has “real life picture” written all over it.
Lighting is what BlackFire’s Crysis mod does so well that it makes FarCry 4 looks like a kindergarden game. It’s interesting how awesome GTA4 is with this realistic lighting palette. But then you look at BF4 with those shtty dramatic pitch black shadows, stupid color grading and all those lens flares all over the screen. Eeewwwwww!!!

Anyone else feel a little bit like these graphics should have been what Xbox One and PS4 consoles should have just about been managing to achieve after a 7 year gap since the last generation, and instead we just got last generation with flashy bits added on?
Such a huge argument about 1080p and yet the Xbox 360 had 1080p 5 or 6 years ago! Why is it that instead of consoles offering groundbreaking performance that can handle graphics as above, we are instead now seeing iPhone’s offer performance almost on a par with next-gen consoles?
Regardless of whether PS4 or X1 is better than the other, they have BOTH let down gamers by not making the performance progress that mobile phones and tablets have made in the last few years!
looks like google maps street view in 4k…I wouldn’t say thats good graphics…I mean kudos to the guy that did this, most likely took a lot of effort, but still…doesn’t really compare to other things, 4k is definitely the way to go for clarity though.
an gtx 660 can run these at 1080p 30-40fps. they say they need a titan. silly console peasant know nothing
