DOOM – 4K Resolution Screenshots From Closed Beta Phase

DOOM’s closed beta phase is a go, and below you can find some 4K screenshots from it. In order to provide crisp visuals, we’ve disabled Chromatic Aberration (kudos to id Software for including an option). DOOM is powered by the id Tech 6, and releases on May 13th. Enjoy!

      1. I have played all the Doom games man, but your not seeing the point here, Doom is a horror game, this new Doom does not give me any horror feeling at all.

  1. This is DOOM 3 look/feel. what happened in new Doom? “lets devolve and make cartoonish graphics ” says some noob developer who is payed by console companies to ruin PC even more.

    1. You do realize Doom 3 devolved from Doom 1 and 2 right? The REAL Doom games which were more colorful and high speed.

      1. Back in the days of doom 1-2 (without 3dfx) developers had to use very limited color palette and colorful bitmaps, so it was not possible to make realistic looking game anyway.

      2. “You do realize Doom 3 devolved from Doom 1 and 2 right?”
        Not in graphics, lightining, atmosphere,etc.

Doom 3 is a sequel in name only, it is a survival horror fps. Doom 4 tries to be Doom 3 and classic Doom and fail at both.

    2. You couldnt make it look more consolish even if you tried. The visuals are consolish and the game looks like halo. Show singleplayer footage asap or alot of preorders will be cancelled.

    3. Ive always found that Hellknight to be the best looking, scariest demon to come from the OG id software. Every time i came up against one in D3, i felt in awe of its power and just the sight of it.

This new doom and the hellknight as well, just looks plain G rated nonsense.

They really dont make games like they use too.

    4. Doom 3 had another approach. Was meant to have a story and be a horror game. This doom reboot is funny and its all about old school MP.

  2. Funny you mention that. The first server I joined today had someone on the mic say “does anyone else think the textures look really bad?”

    1. I can’t put my finger on it entirely but the textures definitely give me a few years ago vibes. I mean I look at Escape from tarkov and I can see detail being put into the tiniest of places, with DOOM it’s just blotchy colours, walls and floors with metal areas not really giving off much of a metallic shine but more of a washed out dull pre-2012 look to them.

I just hope they pull a Ubisoft and dish out some 4k textures, I’d love to see how good the game looks at 4k with detailed 4k textures, I imagine they won’t though because that would show up the current gen versions.

      1. But since i have 21,5” 1080p 60 hz IPS monitor will 4k texutes make a huge difference in graphics? I am using 4k DSR to play gamea at 4k resoluiton. When will the game look better? At native 1080p with 4k textures or 4K DSR with just high textures?

        1. 4K DSR will affect everything not just the textures so that will look better. Just regarding textures though 1080P with 4k textures will look better.

          1. Ok then i will continue playign at 1080p with 4k textures when the patch releases. About DOOM i am sure id will make 4k textures fdor pc but they must laos make 4k monsters it is doom we are talking about a game about lot of violence and brutal kills so 4k monsters/characters are must for the best detail on the violence.

          2. It’s Idtech engine it doesn’t use textures in that sense, it’s one big texture that something like 32/64k

          1. But i dot have and canot huy a 4k monitor. I think you meant to play the game ak 4K DSR with 4k textures?

          2. I don’t see DSR as being all that worth it, otherwise DSR>native 4k, what would be the point ever in 4k monitors if we can just stay at 1080p forever and just use DSR?.

          3. we can play at 1080p forever wth 4k dsr that true. at least for people like me who dot have enough space for a 4k monitor. they must small 4k montors if they want to sell more of them. they made 4k mobile phones they can mae 21,5-23′ 4k monitors too for pc.

          4. I don’t think 4k monitors are going to get smaller than 1080p, that doesn’t really make much sense, I mean those that live in really tiny apartments should probably not liver in a tiny room for their entire life.

          5. but they must make 4kmonitors at tehe size of 1080p ones not smaler. i live in a big ouse but in the livng roomi dont have enough space to hoo the pc near the tv. that why i have it it my living eoom in my desk on 21,5”1080p ips monitor. if they makde a 21,5” 4k monitor i wil buy it and repleacce the 1080p that i currently have. my pc technisian told me that as he sees muy desk it can fit up to a 24” monitor but i know that such a big monitor on a desk is a dangerous for our eyes becaue i am seitting to close to the pc.
as thing now are 4k monitors are only for those who have their pc in the living room and play from the couch just like on consoles.

  3. If you want an old school arena shooter, the new UT is there and it is free to play. The multiplayer in the new game sucks.

  4. Too Much Yellow Will Kill You, If you can’t make up your mind…

Doom 3 still looks like a movie, but this? Catroon Tom & Jerry style…

  5. Looks doom enough to me. I’ll grab it on steam to give it a chance and if it turns out to be a let down, watch that refund 🙂

  6. >Textures look very 2013 if not a year or two less

Have you seen the textures Wulfen did for Doom 3 for free? That was back in 2011. The game itself came out in 2004.

  7. Tried the Beta tonight and, apart from getting killed a lot, it was good fun. The Single player experience is what I am really interested in, it should make you on edge with every switch flicked or key picked up for fear of an ambush. Which is an area that (for me) Doom 3 was a huge step back from Doom1/2/Final. If new Doom gets near to the original for the “panic effect” of imminent hoards of demons I’ll be happy
