Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.0 can use up to 90% of 8-core CPUs, may overheat PC systems

Cyberpunk 2077’s Update 2.0 will release later this month. And, according to Filip Pierscinski, CDPR’s lead scene programmer, it will stress heavily both CPUs and GPUs.

Pierscinski claimed that this new version of CP2077 can use up to 90% of modern-day eight-core CPUs. As such, he suggested PC gamers to check their systems for stability and overheating issues.

To be honest, this doesn’t come as a surprise. Cyperbunk 2077 V2.0 will take full advantage of path tracing, and it will bring major improvements to numerous gameplay systems. In other words, yes. It may increase overall CPU usage and PC gamers should be prepared for such a thing. And, before people start complaining about crashes, they should definitely check their systems for any possible stability issues.

This is something we’ve also suggested when The Last of Us Part I came out. At launch, TLOU Part 1 was hammering the CPU during the shader pre-compilation procedure for over 30 minutes. As such, this could result in multiple crashes on unstable PC systems. For what it’s worth, neither our AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D nor our Intel i9 9900K systems crashed during our extensive benchmarks in that game.

From what we know, Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.0 will revamp the game’s police system, and it will bring major Combat AI overhauls. Additionally, it will have over 100 new items – weapons, cyberware & fashion, dozens of new story quests and gigs, as well as endless dynamic events & missions. This update will also bring support for NVIDIA DLSS 3.5. Furthermore, CD Projekt RED will introduce vehicle combat and mounted weaponry, redesigned cyberware and perks, it will increase the level cap, and will add all-new relic skill tree and abilities.

Lastly, modder “Half Hogan PL” will release a new version of his Texture Pack for CP2077 in October. My guess is that Cyberpunk 2077 HD Reworked Project 2.0 will be optimized for Update 2.0.

Stay tuned for more!

  1. Explosions! Knives! Guns! Fast Cars! Police Chases! Criminals! Badass hairstyles! Neon Lights!

At CD Projekt Red we are radical and out of control! ProjeKt with a K! Buy our game kids, but don’t tell mom!

  2. Or just capped your framerate to 60 (for 120Hz owner) or 72 (for 144Hz Owner),etc. Just having realistic expectation with your hardware will prolonged the life of it folks

    1. If you just make sure your hardware is running reasonably cool, it will usually last for many years. The problem of course is OEM systems, which usually have extremely substandard cooling, leaving components to overheat during gaming which these days leads to significant thermal throttling and reduced performance. Once upon a time components would just cook themselves to death, but these days they sacrifice performance to avoid doing that.

      1. Yep, PC are way more accessible nowadays, but there is still some quirk that need thorough understanding on how its work behind the scene…

  3. Explosions! Knives! Guns! Fast Cars! Police Chases! Criminals! Badass hairstyles! Neon Lights!

At CD Projekt Red we are radical, projekt with a K! We will fry your PC, someone stop us because we are out of control! Buy our game kids, but don’t tell mom!

  4. This whole patch 2.0 so far sounds like stinky flop from tech point.

There is no visual UPGRADE, yet the system requirements spiked sky high, and now recommended specs (1080p/60fps) you need CPUs, i7-12700 / Ryzen 7 7800… But for what?

For “new and better” police system, that GTA had since San Andreas?
    Few more roads and blocks?

Sounds to me that once again CPDR oveloaded they precious engine and created a mess.

    1. The visual upgrade is the path tracing, moron, do you even understand what that means or are you talking out of your a*s like a typical Indian idiot?

Are you some id*ot Indian with a sh*t computer b*ching that this game won’t run on your 486 because you’re a broke and jealous sh*tskin?

I’m f*king sick of you r**ards everywhere online.

I can’t check the price of something online without it giving me results in f*king Rupees or Lakh and the article being written in sh*t English full of spelling and grammar mistakes OR by f*king AI because you r**ards can’t even be bothered to actually write your own bullsh*t anymore.

What’s with you f*king broke losers filling up the internet with “reviews” and opinions of sh*t 99.99999999999% of you can’t even f*king afford in 100 lifetimes of saving? In f*king ENGLISH too!

All over f*king YouTube, all over motorcycle reviews that you can’t even afford, you’re a f*king cancer sore on the a*s of the internet.

      F*k off.

      1. Wait, so it’s an issue Indians know English while people in whatever “first world” sh*thole you’re from don’t?

          1. The Austrian painter, who burned people of the specific nationality, would’ve been proud of you.

          2. yeaaaah let it all out, remember its a process, many men suffer from size complications but you don’t see all of them shouting profanities. baby steps at first

          3. Funny you should mention size, actually!

Every time we order takeout in my city and the courier brings the food (mostly indians and n**gers that don’t even speak English), because they get paid peanuts, get crammed 10 in a room and get treated like sh*t by their employers and literally can’t complain because they still make 100 times more than whatever sh*thole they come from, my wife always makes fun of them because they’re all skinny midgets that are one head shorter than her and 3 heads shorter than me.

So yeah, if I were to d*ck slap a curry ni**er, I’d probably break its neck.

Now f*k off and bring me my food, street sh*tting slave!

          4. yep a wife and a 4090, big words for a little incel like you, now write another comment cause my buddies are having fun somehow reading your shortcomings, and give yourself another thumb up while you’re at it XD

          5. Stop projecting on me just because you’re broke and unf*kable, loser.

“My buddies” my a*s. Losers don’t have any friends.

          6. You either have a small pen!s or your parents did some terrible things to you. I’m sure your eventual divorce proceedings will be a hoot though.

          7. Not at all. Just wondering why knowing English and using it is an issue, I can only assume you’re from somewhere in Europe where you losers can only really speak your local language.

Anyway, I hope you got at least $50 to lick CD Projekt’s balls and curse everyone who speaks out against their overhyped sh*t game that’s all about the graphics.

          1. But I’m guessing it’s usually you disrespecting others, so what, got a habit of headbutting mirrors? Probably why you’re so messed up.

      2. The only r**ard you see is when you stand in front of the mirror, Mr. Soft C*ck.
You have no arguments to support you, so you use swear words, it’s a sign that you’ve been made with soft dong.

        Back to main quest.
The new higher requirements apply also to non-RTX.

As you can SEE on OFFICIAL blog post and picture below from CDPR:

        https://www.cyberpunk.net/en/news/48271/update-to-pc-system-requirements

        PS. I am European.
So you missed the mark, blind cowboy.

        1. Either way, I have a 4090 and a 13900ks and don’t give a f*k about specs because I’m not poor like you unemployed losers.

      3. Just tried to pay for Game Pass and price came up in Rupees. I live in European Union by the way.
Also, every time when I try to find review of the smartphone I consider buying – I’m forced to watch guy with mustache who sounds like he’s got mouth full of dumplings.

    2. 2.0 is getting official DLSS 3.5 support which will improve the appearance of the raytracing (make it less noisy) and even boost the raytracing performance somewhat.

As for the CPU requirements… There’s a lot of stuff that is going to be added to the open world: more random fights, air drops, vehicle combat, radiant quests, more reactive NPCs, etc. The things people wanted.

      1. Does more reactive NPCs mean they get better dialogue as well, or is it about them reacting to shoot outs with police etc more than they do now? Hate how simplistic the dialog for all the pedestrians is in this game.

  5. Yeah but, is that code efficient or not?
For example, we’ve seen games with high CPU usage while it wasn’t doing anything special any other game in the genre was too (excluding RT).
A programmer can write stuff that 100%’s your CPU on a purely dummy/junk workload, or you know, you could be running a complex game with less load than that.
But too many people including website owners take it blindly at face value as “oh yeah, it’s working at full load, so it’s good”.

    1. Ha yeah. If I wrote an application that was using 100% of our server’s CPU, there wouldn’t be a chance of it going anywhere near production.

    2. I played CP2077 at launch using a 3080 TUF/4.5GHz 3770k setup with everthing maxed including Psycho RT at 1440p. Using DLSS Quality I remember getting 45-capped 60 FPS. For such an old CPU the game felt very well optimised.

  6. Im never on these reprehensible corporations’ side , but being fully honest, this one game justify its requirements, say what you want but almost 3 years have gone by and not a single game comes anywhere near Cyberpunk 2077’s graphical fidelity, and now with this update, all of those literally World’s Best graphics will be on top of a much beefier gameplay since they are revamping the police system and other gameplay elements, yeah, logically, the game has to get heavier.

What is The Last of Us 1 excuse? or Starfield? or any game at all really, even games that are running well, they are so far behind Cyberpunk in terms of sheer graphics.

Sure the game was a flop, and arguably a scam, but if you’re honestly trying to downplay its graphics you’re just cringe.

          1. The RT grain/blur is just due to the speed at which the rays are updated. It uses data accumulated over several seconds. That should be completely fixed in the patch coming out in a few days with ray reconstruction. Was just a limit of the technology.

Other than that…gotta say you’re a weird fella. I wish all games I played could look even half as good as those screenshots I shared. Haha.

    1. I sometimes boot the game up just to walk around and admire the city. The pathtracing mode makes the rainy weather darker and I use a mod called Natural Californian Lighting Mod – More Rain so that it’s dark and moody most of the time.

There’s a certain beauty to Night City’s bleakness, especially when it’s dark and rainy.

      1. I understand your point, but if you followed the game’s pre-launch cycle, it’s obvious that their mission went well beyond making money, they wanted to make history and they failed miserably.

  7. I play NHL Hockey 2015 on my PC using RPCS3, I have AVX512 enabled and hopefully it doesn’t get as hot as that does. So basically lower the voltage on your cpu’s while keeping performance, a lot of people have their voltage set to whatever it is. Im rdy I guess.

    1. Just be careful, that can make a system unstable under load, but also under variable load. Like say you have one high-boosting core and also some intermittent threads. Core cycling in OCCT on two or three cores with the extreme small CPU test is one way to diagnose issues.

      1. mine is set to negative offset of .07 which is 1.280v, so far so good. The default settings (which a lot of people have on their setups) is pretty hot like it will reach 96+ easy with aio cooler, it wont break 86 now, once it starts rebooting ill up the voltage. i have efficiency cores off only way to enable avx 512 which does make a difference with ps3 games. its crazy people run these games on their laptops though lol.

  8. Buys game, runs fine. Several updates later, sorry your pc is no longer good enough to run the game you spent your hard earned money on. Yes Cyberpunk didn’t run fine on release but have to be concerned that they can suddenly update specs after rollout just because they can’t optimise their code properly.

  9. Oh dear. Revamped skill tree and harder kill police requires 8-core 80c hot spot.
I was about to buy that DLC but I’ll kindly wait.
