Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.0 can use up to 90% of 8-core CPUs, may overheat PC systems

Cyberpunk 2077’s Update 2.0 will release later this month. And, according to Filip Pierscinski, CDPR’s lead scene programmer, it will stress heavily both CPUs and GPUs.

Pierscinski claimed that this new version of CP2077 can use up to 90% of modern-day eight-core CPUs. As such, he suggested PC gamers to check their systems for stability and overheating issues.

To be honest, this doesn’t come as a surprise. Cyperbunk 2077 V2.0 will take full advantage of path tracing, and it will bring major improvements to numerous gameplay systems. In other words, yes. It may increase overall CPU usage and PC gamers should be prepared for such a thing. And, before people start complaining about crashes, they should definitely check their systems for any possible stability issues.

This is something we’ve also suggested when The Last of Us Part I came out. At launch, TLOU Part 1 was hammering the CPU during the shader pre-compilation procedure for over 30 minutes. As such, this could result in multiple crashes on unstable PC systems. For what it’s worth, neither our AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D nor our Intel i9 9900K systems crashed during our extensive benchmarks in that game.

From what we know, Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.0 will revamp the game’s police system, and it will bring major Combat AI overhauls. Additionally, it will have over 100 new items – weapons, cyberware & fashion, dozens of new story quests and gigs, as well as endless dynamic events & missions. This update will also bring support for NVIDIA DLSS 3.5. Furthermore, CD Projekt RED will introduce vehicle combat and mounted weaponry, redesigned cyberware and perks, it will increase the level cap, and will add all-new relic skill tree and abilities.

Lastly, modder “Half Hogan PL” will release a new version of his Texture Pack for CP2077 in October. My guess is that Cyberpunk 2077 HD Reworked Project 2.0 will be optimized for Update 2.0.
