Starfield Update 1.7.33 released, fixes blurry textures & AMD star lens flares, improves stability, full patch notes

Bethesda has just released Patch 1.7.33 for Starfield, and shared its complete list of changes and improvements. According to the changelog, Update 1.7.33 packs various stability and performance improvements to address crashing and freezes.

Moreover, this new patch addresses an upscaling issue that could cause textures to become blurry. It also fixes an issue that caused star lens flares not to appear correctly AMD GPUs.

For those wondering, this patch does not add any FOV slider or support for NVIDIA DLSS. My guess is that those promised features will become available via the next major PC update. Unfortunately, though, there is no ETA on when Bethesda will release it.

As always, Steam will download this update the next time you launch its client. Below you can also find its complete changelog.

  1. Bethseda releases new patch that just broke half of the 1800 mods already created for the game ….. But only the ones that fixed actual bugs

    1. They shouldn’t be caring about whether they broke half of the mods already created. They support modders and they support them well, but there’s challenges with things like SFSE and all the other mod hooks that use memory offsets to expose certain methods/properties. This kind of response shows an utter lack of understanding about that process. It’s also near to impossible to guarantee on compile that a method, field, attribute, etc,. won’t change its offset in that module. You can’t just force it into a specific offset. If they had to spend time making sure they didn’t break something, people would be upset that they were taking too long and just “letting modders fix it”.

      1. No I understand it perfectly well

Modding Rule # 1 – Expect your mods to break with every update of a game

Thus it’s kind of stupid to mod a game still under active development and Bethesda games without mods are mediocre garbage …..

    2. No one should bother playing this game and using mods for it until the mod tools are out, until then no mods good enough to make this game good will be made and every update will break existing mods.

      1. Basically you just made my point. It’s a Bethesda game meaning every damn time they update it the break the Script Extender and all the mods that rely on it ….. People were going nuts about that in Skrim when it was getting maybe one update a year ….. This is likely to get an update every month for the next year ….

Cripes there are still bugs in Skyrim 12 years later such as the Karliah stuck bug in the Trinity Restored quest. It must be so spaghetti coded that not even the developers can figure out how to fix it. None of the modders have come up with a solution but there are workarounds but that’s not the same thing really

  2. It’s been game breaking bug free from early access launch and once you dial in the settings for your system it works fine. Console can solve any minor stuff easy lookup, playing FOV 90 simple ini setting. The blurryness in cities at far distances was the most noticeable bug and someone solved that by saying to put indirect lighting to high for us popeoples at mostly medium 1k, low/med end bug I think. Honestly there’s not much need imo for more than console command based mods which won’t break mostly w updates and simple luts to remove the forced filters, have not touched the script/esp mods at all. Pretty much done, sped it up by using mods as far as companion quests, did all faction stuff, consoled in starborn suits, ship, not bothering with ng+ maybe next year after DLC. Not as much personality as FO3/4/NV but space is mostly no personality to it other than occassionally pretty scenery. You liked FO4, you’ll like this, if not then no, easy filter.

  3. After about 30 hours it just hit me like a tonne of bricks. What the Hell am I doing playing this game? It’s probably the least interesting sci-fi universe ever created. At least Fallout has an interesting setting, aesthetic and a grimness about it. All of that is gone, there’s nothing that defines this game other than how shockingly dull it all is. I think when I got to the Astral Lounge that was the final straw. Those absolutely ridiculous male dancers in Spandex, it’s all just so hideously soulless. These are the people that will be making Elder Scrolls 6, it’s over.

    1. I haven’t tried Starfield yet. I might give it a try when I can pick it up for around $15 on a big Steam Sale depending on the state of the game at that point with mods.

Your words boring and soulless reminds me of the same words I used when describing Fallout 76 years ago. Both of these games were developed by the same people.

ES VI will also be developed by these same people.

Possibly you can still return Starfield and buy it again for a lot less later on if you still want to and assuming the modding community works their usual magic on the game. It has been reported that Steam is being generous with how many hours you can play and still return it.

      1. Got it on a key site so no refund unfortunately. Maybe I’m wrong but I thought Fallout 76 was made by Bethesda Austin, a different studio and dev team than the other BGS games. Also, it was their first shot at online so I guess I gave them a bit of leeway for that. There’s no excusing it here though and honestly, I think it’s even worse. How Fallout 76 chose to tell it’s story through terminals was dull as Hell but at least it had a pretty good world to explore. Also had a bit of that environmental story telling from the older Fallouts. This game just feels like a thousand cells of uninspired, forgettable content. Even the handcrafted stuff feels randomly generated. The NPC’s are so consistently detestable too, it’s honestly shocking. If you are going to check it out, definitely wait until it’s a tenner on key sites.

    2. I’ve spent some time in this loading screen simulation and have to agree that it’s all so boring and tedious after you’ve seen and done all the basics. Combat isn’t the worst, but the writing is horrible! So many bland stories, so many “important” Karen characters and a lot of the males are “evil corporate” a-holes or insufferable gåy bitçhes. This was definitely written by younger “I’ve got nothing to offer the world” types with a “modern audience” in mind.

AVOID giving Todd Howard any of your money for this crap! Or wait for a 90% off sale or something once the Creation Kit is out and modders attempt to make this more interesting, IF they can work some miracles and actually do that.

Oh and you’ll want the no pronouns and the other “banned” mod as well.

      1. It’s insane, this might be the most pozzed game ever. Mods can’t fix this, the core universe is the problem. The generic NPC’s are just beyond belief. Immersion doesn’t exist in this game and without that, why even play a Bethesda game?

      2. “AVOID giving Todd Howard any of your money for this crap.”

Not just Starfield, any AAA game that isn’t backed by Denuvo and/or is cracked quickly needs to be pirated these days, or at least tried properly through the cracked version before you pony up.

    3. I reeeally don’t have any expectations for TES6, other than it being a generic, ocean-wide pond-deep open world with compartmentalized mechanics, filled with “been there done that” dungeons and activities and main quest, and a consolized inefficient theme-inadequate UI. Skyrim already was that to me and Starfield didn’t seem to make much to emerge above that.
The graphics will be great, sure, but i need real immersiveness. I feel however that the reviews won’t be so lenient after several games with the same weaknesses, but who knows, maybe the press and fanboys will eat a full dish of whatever once again.

      1. I agree as far as mechanical depth goes regarding Skyrim but all the same I did enjoy it for what it was. Then eventually Requiem turned it into a great game worth playing imo. Skyrim nailed a visually distinct, memorable world to explore. Starfield has none of that. It doesn’t even have interesting lore to lay a foundation for a universe you want to find out about. It just totally fails as an experience, a massive, mediocre time-sink.

        1. ” It doesn’t even have interesting lore to lay a foundation for a universe you want to find out about.”

Just the most important thing on a game that wants to be great. This cräp is never going to be that.

        2. I have absolutely no idea how Skyrim played or even looked when it came out. I didn’t even play the game until 2018 and have never played it with less than 500 mods.

I probably won’t even try Starfield for at least a couple of years after it’s been completely revamped by mods. Bethesda basically releases a base for mods not actual fully finished games …..

      2. Well, that’s why I still play Kingdom Come and love every second of it. No woke bullshït, no pandering for minorities and a very good and immersive game. I just don’t like the sword fighting, it’s way too hard, but for that I can always rely on my bow.
Highly recommend, if you like the setting.

    4. Finally you realize it. I guess you had to try the game to see it for yourself, which is fair.

    5. Initially, I loved Starfield, but after 20 hours, I’ve decided it’s possibly one of the dullest games I’ve played. Land, ask someone a question, they tell you to go somewhere else and do something boring, then go back to the lodge to give them an update. All those planets to visit, yet the game world feel so small. The whole game is just filler.
But I paid for it, so I’m at least going to force myself to finish the main questline so I can try to convince myself I’ve had my money’s worth.

    6. Define “Marxist-leftist ideas” ……

This should be good from the crowd that doesn’t seem to even realize that Marxism and Fascism are exact opposites so they lump them together when they whine like little girlies …..

  4. I like how they say they took inspiration from the procedural generation in daggerfall and then didn’t bother to make procedural generated dungeons and locations just the terrain on a ‘planet’.
Even oblivion and skyrim had different caves and dungeons based on different blocks.
I’m not having fun walking into the exact same 5 buildings with the exact same placement of stuff on 1000 planets.
