Returnal feature

First PC Update for Returnal released, is 1.3GB in size, full patch notes

Climax Studios and Housemarque have released the first PC update for Returnal. The February 17th Patch, which weighs around 1.3GB in size, fixes a number of issues that plagued the game. The developers have also confirmed that they are working on a performance patch that will come out in the future.

Going into more details, the February 17th Update fixes an issue with the grass draw distance on Epic Particle settings. Furthermore, it resolves a rare issue with music stopping during Biome entry.

As said, this update does not bring any performance improvements. Moreover, it does not minimize or eliminate the additional stutters that occur when you enable the game’s Ray Tracing effects. My guess is that the latter will be resolved in the upcoming performance patch.

Naturally, Steam will download this patch the next time you launch its client. Below you can also find its complete changelog.

Returnal February 17th PC Update Release Notes

  • Fix for certain Ultrawide monitor setups not being detected in Full Screen
  • Fix for incorrectly detecting the Windows resolution on first boot
  • Fix for grass draw distance on Epic Particle settings
  • Fix for PSN Sign in time outs
  • Fix for Benchmark results rounding error

    1. My guess is that there will be mods on Nexus to fix that. The thing is that a lot of people are against this Political Correct silliness being forced down our throats by a minority of activists. Surely there will be a few modders that will fix this.

      1. the thing is though, we should not have to rely on mods to fix the woke s**t

female fanservice should be coming from the developers themselves like it used to be in the past (BloodRayne, Fear Effect, Cortana, etc.)

developers being restricted of their freedom of expression/creativity by being forced to follow woke sjw/feminist ideology is a complete disgrace

and also from what I read, Nexus mods is also woke and getting worse

        1. I agree with you that it shouldn’t be the modders responsibility to fix what is sh*t and it shouldn’t be the responsibility of the gamers to have to use mods to fix what is sh*t.

Why do Developers make games the way they are? Why do Developers feel pressured to hire the people that they do and put inclusiveness over talent and experience for their hires?

I will answer that with this. The Miss America Pageant cancelled the Swimsuit Competition citing “The Pageant should be about brains and not beauty.” So, a Beauty Pageant shouldn’t involve beauty apparently. They admitted the cancellation was done because of pressure from Lesbian Activists.

Political Correctness has invaded all forms of media not just gaming and it looks like it’s here to stay unfortunately.

          1. They admitted the cancellation was done because of pressure from Lesbian Activists.

i am aware of the Miss America Pageant swimsuit round being removed, i was against it being removed when it happened

just like i am against the Grid Girls being removed from F1 Racing and Booth Babes being removed from video game events like E3

the thing is though, here is the general problem with the culture war – whilst the lesbian/sjw activists got the swimsuit round removed, there was no proper/real fightback from the people who liked the swimsuit round. which was unfortunately predictable because you all know how western men have completely lost their balls these days

basically, you can apply that same problem to everything else that has been ruined by Wokeness. for example in the Resident Evil 4 Remake, Ashley got censored by having her original skirt replaced with a skort. not enough people care and the people who do care didn’t really make a proper/real fightback. i realise this kind of thing is difficult to fight back against without making one’s self look like a sad individual, but regardless it’s censorship

if you remember almost a decade ago, what happened to the scientist Matt Taylor in “shirtgate” just says it all. there were not many people defending Taylor

    2. And can it wipe clean the antiwhite manhating cabal trash, at the same time, thats behing all woke POS HBTQ propaganda aswell. Then surely, it will be the best patch ever come true!

    3. Nah it will probably just give it a man’s body as well. Someone probably is mad they don’t have hips who played it, so all traces of it being a woman needs erased, while they tell you hate women.

Oh and Digital Foundry will shill it more. Amazing how they praise some stuttering games and not others. It’s almost like Alex is a fruit who is a SM model and his tech reviews are now full of bias.

    4. It would have been much healthier to the game to add a handful of faces, maybe even skin tone and say hair styles to round it up in a simple way and boom, problem solved/avoided.

    1. If the character was one of an Instagram model, then it would make sense to be angry since it breaks immersion/would be unrealistic to use this face model.

But the main character here is a scientist, so I do not understand the hate.

      1. Don’t waste your energy. If it’s not a model in tight or half-naked clothes, it’s ‘terrible design.’ All words of criticism escape these people once they see a pixelated bottom or jiggly ‘assets.’ Stellar Blade is definitely not another generic Hack-and-Slash Asian game thanks to the protagonist’s big personality.

        1. you could have just said that you’re an anti-female-fanservice sjw prude instead of typing all that rubbish

      2. ah yes, “muh realism” in a video game where there are flying laser jet packs, sh00ting laser beams, human beings spawning, etc.

very selective application of realism there, funny how everything else is allowed to be unrealistic but for SOME REASON the female character design always has to be realistic. its almost like there is an bias and agenda going on

and to play your own game, a scientist can ALSO be a good looking and beautiful woman; the fact that you imply that a woman scientist cannot have ‘female instagram model’ looks exposes your bias and agenda

so I do not understand the hate.

half the hate comes from the fact that Selene’s design is highly likely the result of all the social justice feminist agenda to make every female character in video games to be ugly/average looking to spite the straight male gamers and defeat the dreaded “male gaze”

        just like anita sarkeesian demanded

go back to resetera you cretinous sjw apologist

          1. I did not say that scientist cannot be good looking.

you didn’t directly say it, but you did imply it, as evidenced by the following quotes of you:

“If the character was one of an Instagram model, then it would make sense to be angry since it breaks immersion/would be unrealistic to use this face model.”

“But the main character here is a scientist, so I do not understand the hate.”

  1. Fix for incorrectly detecting the Windows resolution on first boot

This ruined the entire start of the game for me. I had to watch the whole beggining in like a 360p resolution or something. Obviously i didn’t, at this low ress.. so yeah. Skipped it.

Great that they are fixing it now… when most people dont care anymore.

    1. Most people do not buy games day one. The smart ones actually avoid it because they get to play the non-broken version for cheaper.

      1. I do too, but i got this 1 for free (a birthday gift).

Shame, what you said is just the reality for so many years now. Broken games for the first 1 year. Buying games on 2 year not only gives us better experience, but also.. the games are cheaper. Shame for the day 1 hype tho, its totally ruined and gone now.

        1. It is a shame indeed. Developers/publishers just don’t care enough to release finished and optimized games at launch. Developers typically work on the game up until the last minute. There should be a longer polish/post production period where they iron out the issues and make sure that it meets a certain standard.

          1. Yeah for sure. The whole just put it out there, we will fix it later is annoying me. The internet made it too easy for them to do that. Back in the day, either the game works from the disk, or it doesnt lol. This in-between… is kind of meh.

What was that company that admited they needed more time, but they were not given any? I forgot.. but it feels like thats the norm now.

  2. Check out this wild idea. You take the game that needs 4-5 performance updates that will take 1-2 additional months right, and you delay the game by 2 months. Then, you release the game, and it runs perfectly. What an insane inconceivable notion ik.

The more popular option recently is to delay the game by 4-6 months, release it broken anyway, pump out 5 patches in the next 6 months that barely do anything, and never touch it again. Donezo bonezo.

    1. Your logic is sound, but unfortunately it falls on the deaf ears of the publishers and those that sit as directors at the boards of these companies. They’re basically a bunch of out-of-touch boomers at best and only care about $$$, which they think can be met by releasing in certain time frames to appease shareholders, outstanding bugs and glitches be damned. And sadly, I think they’ve been proven mostly right because mindless consoomers keep preordering or purchasing things day 1.

    1. I don’t know why they made her not at least somewhat pretty. Don’t need a babe but she was hit with the ugly stick too much.

  3. Oh, so Climax Studio did not do any internal tests again.
Because if they did, there would be no such problems, unless they are handicapped and don’t see any problems with the game.
Anyway, the thrift and laziness that comes with PC ports is the biggest sh*t.

    1. I just stopped buying games all together man. Only support the smaller studios on GOG. I’m done with AAA GAMES. There is nothing Triple A about them anymore. Those 3 A’s use to mean something.
