Paradox Interactive and Harebrained Schemes announced that the first modern turn-based, tactical combat game set within the MechWarrior universe, Battletech, will launch this April for Windows PC and Mac. In order to celebrate this announcement, the publisher has also released a new video that you can view below.
In the first of a three-part video series, Jordan Weisman (creator of BattleTech), Mitch Gitelman (Studio Manager) and Mike McCain (Game Director) detail BATTLETECH’s unique combat system and the tactical challenges players will face commanding building-sized war machines on the battlefield. There’s also a fair amount of ‘Mech-punching, naturally.
Jordan Weisman, CEO of Harebrained Schemes and creator of the original board game and BATTLETECH universe, said:
“BATTLETECH has been a passion project for our team and for the fans who helped to make it a reality. We have done our very best to deliver a tactical ‘Mech experience that will delight long-time fans and excite new players who have yet to enter the MechWarrior universe. We know players are anxious to get their hands on the final game, and HBS joins Paradox in our excitement to deliver this April.”
Enjoy!

I’d kill for a Battletech RTS.
Have you ever heard of the Mechcommander games?
That I have.
I believe he means a new one. There was supposed to be a mechwarrior tactics but it never happened. I too would literally kill for a new RTS. A game like Star Wars EaW would be perfect. Mix in some of the current Battletech, or say it could be a total warish game with an Inner Sphere campaign map, combined with planetary levels and space battles like EAW, with planet side gameplay similar to MechCommander. Oh my lort it would be amazing.
Battletech is not set within the MechWarrior universe.
MechWarrior is set within the Battletech universe. Battletech 1st edition came out in 1984. MechWarrior 1 came out in 1989.
My only concern is that Paradox is going to ruin this like they ruin all their games, by oversaturating with DLC. Battletech is ripe for exploitation when it comes to microtransactions and DLC, as MWO has proven. Soon it’s going to be like “Tech level 2 DLC zomg boi.” “Get the new TRO 3039 DLC.” “Elite pilots DLC!”
