NBA 2K24

To the surprise of no one, NBA 2K24 is still old-gen on PC

A few hours ago, we informed you about the new crossplay feature that NBA 2K24 will support. As its leaked trailer suggested, crossplay will be only available on the Next-Gen version of NBA 2K24. And, according to the game’s official FAQ, NBA 2K24 PC will be once again based on the old-gen version.

NBA crossplay

As the game’s official FAQ confirmed, only the PS5 and the Xbox Series S|X versions will support crossplay. What this ultimately means is that the PC version will be once again based on the old-gen version of NBA 2K24. I mean, you don’t have to be Albert Einstein to put two and two together.

This is the third time that PC gamers will be missing out on all the features that the Next-Gen (or should we say, Current-Gen) version of NBA 2K24 will have. And, to be honest, this sucks. I mean, even EA went ahead and brought FIFA’s current-gen version to PC.

At this point, I seriously hope that the PC sales of NBA 2K24 will be as low as possible. Because, after three whole years, it definitely doesn’t matter if the game has “Mixed” or “Negative” reviews on Steam. It’s shockingly ridiculous how 2K Games is treating PC gamers when it comes to its NBA 2K series.

According to SteamSpy, NBA 2K22 had over 500K owners and NBA 2K23 had over 1 million people on Steam. Now I don’t remember if NBA 2K23 had a free-to-play weekend. So, I can only assume that these two games sold at least 500K copies each on Steam. Add to this their ridiculous loot boxes and, apparently, these PC sales are more than enough for 2K Games.

Anyway, 2K Games plans to release NBA 2K24 on September 8th. For what it’s worth, we won’t be further covering this title. That was our stance with both NBA 2K22 and NBA 2K23. So, GG 2K Games and see you next year.

  1. To the surprise of no one? I am surprised. I figured since all other sports games on PC were “next gen” that nba 2k would be…

      1. Yeah I’m seriously disappointed. I have bought every NBA 2k game since it was released on steam and I’m gonna be skipping 2k24 unless I get a steal of a deal. Even then I’ll feel like a d*ck for supporting them in any way shape or form after this.

  2. Why even release 2k24 on PC at all then? Just upload a 2023-24 roster to 2k23 and call it a day… I am actually a little surprised. Next gen came out for 2k21, and now 2k24 is about to release in few months and there’s still no next gen for PC. When the current gen came out for 2k14, PC players got it one year later with 2k15. Now we’ve been waiting for 3 years, which will now inevitably be 4 years with no guarantee that 2k25 will even be updated. Ridiculous…

  3. why is there even an old gen available both sony and microsoft had said this year is the last year that there will be any games on their last gen consoles so what is the point for 2k to make the pc version last Gen?

    1. That is not how it works, sports games are the last to die, there will be FIFA and NBA on both PS4 and XO, same as Nintendo Switch.

  4. Sports games are trash compared to the early-mid 2000s. Same game with some new animations and a roster update to sell you fake cards. These games have turned into glorified slot machines.

    1. I mean lets be real anyone that spent money in these games is a moron. I felt bad when I bought some VC and immediately regretted my decision.

      1. Anyone who thinks they can tell someone else how to spend their money, is the true moron. Also, you just called yourself a moron so you’re aware.

    2. Yep, I did not followed sport games in those years, but I started playing NBA 2K in +- 08… there was some noticeable “upgrades”, but ever since 2K11 things kinda got stale (for example, it’s hard to spot the differences if you set 2K11 and 2K14 side to side), the NBA 2K series only “change” when the nextgen version arrives, so it’s understandable why more people are abandoning these games in recent years. I gave up back in 2017ish, even as a huge basketball fan, it’s simply not worthy (I never cared about the “my player” stuff, so really, no reason to keep playing these games)

  5. Also to the surprise of no one, DSOG loves the chance for negative click bait headlines. I mean, you don’t have to be Albert Einstein to put two and two together.

  6. I speak for the whole community and we don’t give a flying fück about sports games, other than motor racing.
