The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – No REDkit Editor Planned At The Moment

Yesterday, CD Projekt RED released some modding tools for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Via the game’s Modkit, players can change models, scripts and/or textures. However, you are out of luck if you were hoping for a full REDkit Editor.

As Marcin Momot confirmed, there won’t be – at the moment – any REDkit Editor for The Witcher 3.

And that is that.

          1. Well, there is no editor like with TW2 RedKit and it’s not like TW3 need overhauling. I played around with RedKit in TW2 and it was great, no chance of that greatness with TW3 it seems.

      1. No, that’s a half-measure. You won’t be able to do anything serious with those tools, and it’s not what they promised. It’s just another thing CDP failed to deliver.

          1. It depends on how define the word “serious”. If it can’t allow you to create your own quests and locations, it’s not “serious”. Like at all.

      1. March of this year. I can’t link it because dsogaming doesn’t allowing linking. It’s on iDigital Times with the title “Witcher 3 Mod Support Tools Confirmed By CD Projekt RED CEO Because “This Company Is Run By Gamers””.

He was quoted saying “Yes, yes, yes we will. There will be an editor. For Witcher 2 we released it quite late. For Witcher 3 it will be faster.”

        1. DSOG does allow linking, it just takes some time to get manually approved. Posts with links are put on hold but that doesn’t mean they are discarded. It just takes a little time.

  1. Hahaha pc fegs get fcuked again by a dev they trust and still defend it!

I called out this crap game the instant it didn’t run on a GTX680 at ultra 60fps 1080p!

This game is full of lies. Graphics downgrade: CDPR? Nope, it was not
downgraded, we just toned down the sharpening LOL. Now mod support? You
can edit existing stuff but not add new assets. LOL, this just gets
better! Pretty glad I shifted to my PS4! I can finally play batman
arkham knight at silky smooth 30fps, and ubisoft games run great not to mention psn is enough, you don’t need uplay!

      1. Truth always hurts pc feg. Go support your favorite company which lies to you meanwhile I support the good guys like ubisoft, ea, and most importantly sony.

        1. Ubisoft, EA and Sony are the good guys ? lol this comment should be sticky with title “Piss poor joke of the year”.

    1. Wow, well done for downgrading to a PS4. The downgrade wasn’t as bad as was claimed anyway and PC version is vastly better than the console version, PC version has water tessellation, simulation, loads more NPCs, vastly better draw distance and isn’t capped to 30FPS, not like the consoles can even keep 30fps either.

On the face of it, CDPR did a lot for the PC version, the UI isn’t dumbed down, has a nice grid UI, nice responsive mouse controls, loads of options for PC users and vastly improved over TW2.

As for PSN, LOL, Enjoy serious security concerns from Sony, downtimes and slowness.

      1. The PS4 version also face horrendous stuttering and frame rate issues in intensive areas like swamps or Skellige isles. They blame devs for this but the real reason is the crappy console hardware that cannot run ambitious open world games properly.

      2. lol, so what. you are doomed anyway. pc has no games. enjoy stupid indies while the games with the real graphics are on ps4/x1. Good luck begging for uncharted and quantum break.

        1. PC has no games eh? As for indies ,they coming to consoles you idiot because the consoles have no games, it’s all remasters and inferior ones at that. Uncharted is never coming to PC so who cares? We got Star Citizen, a proper PC game.

        2. Actually, people call PS4, indiestation 4. There is only one good high profile exclusive on PS4, called Bloodborne and it looks like a game from 2004. Rest of the decent games are low budget indies. It’s funny that you guys even mention graphics, because that’s the department where PC always has upper hand, every gen. There is no magic here. Better hardware = better graphics. Uncharted games looked pretty underwhelming compared to PC games when they launched. Don’t know what your point is. Uncharted 4 is already downgraded.

You were hyping E3 trailer like savior of mankind, then you got VGX gameplay that looked nowhere near as good as E3 Trailer. Then you got new E3 2015 footage, which according to digital foundry had even worse textures and low quality assets than VGX footage of last year. And it’ll continue to look worse just like every Naughty Dog game that was downgraded since 2009. Even right now, environments aren’t that impressive. What really impresses in Uncharted 4 are character models and animations.

Now on paper those animations are extremely impressive but when you compare graphics, you compare actual technology and Uncharted’s technology is not that impressive. They use scripted animations. For example, when Nathan Drake walks among other people, different set of animations are triggered, when he reaches point B or C, the game triggers Y or Z set of animations. It’s going to play like that every time. It’s not like Nathan Drake or Crowd has clever AI and they are using procedural animations based on that AI. In games like

Star Citizen, you have at least 10 parts of the body that can take damage and it can affect your movement, which depends on the location of your body where the bullet hit you. And those injury animations totally depend on type of bullet, its velocity, point of impact, distance and type of armor your character is wearing.

All these things are considered and animations that are played after that part are procedural. Now that’s actual technology, where every bullet exists like a real object and has some purpose. And even if we consider Uncharted 4 superior in that department for a second 90% of other stuff is easily outclassed by other PC games. Hell, I consider Unreal Tournament to drop some jaws next year. Its environments already look the best, I’ve ever seen and due to the game’s linear nature, they will be able to push it further. Not to mention they are moving to DX12 which means DX12 exclusives features like VXGI based lighting, which no game currently uses in the world. Then you have Ultra HD resolution support and 8K textures in Star Citizen/Squadron 42.

No way a Console that is struggling to run games at 30fps and using old rendering techniques pioneered by PC developers several years ago, is going to outclass that. I won’t even discuss Quantum Break because it was running on PC and Remedy has a history of bringing their games on PC and Alan Wake on lowest settings (with shadows turned on) looked better than Xbox 360 version. On highest settings, it was not even comparison. And Quantum Break is also inferior to upcoming heavy hitters on PC.

          1. “Looks like a game from 2004” – Funny, that was the same game that many in the PC community port-begged for. I’m not saying that I agree with his comment, but yours is equally as ridiculous.

OT: Would be nice to get the full REDKit, but alas, we’ll just have to wait it out.

          2. PC games on console ,it’s not like console gamers don’t want games eh is it? Diablo 3, Planetside 2, Elite Dangerous, Elderscrolls Online, Crysis, Half-life, Portal, The Witcher series, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.

          3. Nice try to change the subject. Won’t change the fact though. Bloodborne doesn’t even have lip synching. What is it? 1998?

        1. Witcher 3 runs at 20fps, fact. You have to disable post processing to boost fps but it still doesn’t run the game at stable 30fps. No wonder they had to downgrade the game.

  2. If we are brutally honest, how many new levels and adventures did the community make for Witcher 2? Basically none because it was an insane amount of work. And even Witcher 1, which was an order of magnitude easier, it only had about 5 adventure mods worth playing, all of which were very short.

So coming at this from a content perspective, it’s extremely likely no one would have made anything serious with a full editor. So I don’t blame them for not releasing it. There game just isn’t made for easy creation of content, unlike the Fallout/Skyrim Creation Kit.

    1. My thoughts exactly. Haven’t checked out the modtools released today, but i’m sure no one was planning on there next W3 Total Conversion. I do hope to see it come out someday (at least 2 yrs), but 3 months after release with the history of not much being produced… Like you said, its not skyrim/fallout.

    2. If CDP wanted mod support for Witcher 3, it should have started when they were writing their game / engine. A game architecture must be open. You don’t need any tools to replace a texture in a TES game. That’s why it’s so successful. The same way it works for Source or ID Tech (at least for older versions, not sure about 5 or 6).

Not to say that they didn’t change anything since Oblivion, and some basic tools like bsa unpacker will work with any TES / Fallout game. The modding community was building itself for years.

But people seem to believe that once CDP will release RedKit, thousands of modders will drop everything to bring graphics and new adventures to Witcher 3. It simply doesn’t work that way.

But still, a promise is a promise. They promised they will release RedKit for Witcher 3.

    3. That’s because those tools came WAY too late, long after the release of the game, and other games are much easier to mod. You can’t blame the community for the lack of mods, it’s all on CDPR.

  3. “You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villian.”

The triple A industry and what happens when they get involved with consoles. Graphics downgrades, mod support pulled, eventually CODification. Oh well at least CDPR is still making good games unlike Bioware. Wonder how long before someone like EA or Activision buys them and they suffer the same fate. Eventually the founders will be like F this and want to make craft beer like the Bioware founders did, since their games no longer will resemble what their original intent was. Being Polish maybe they will make craft Vodka.

Anyways thanks MS and Sony for making everything worse. MS was the one with major involvement in this game. So thanks again MS. I will be sure to upgrade to Win 10 right away. J/K. Hope adoption fails, the Xbox One continues to fail and you go back to the business sector. I will dance on the Xbox’s grave.

    1. lol EA is a shi**y company but whether you like it or not they still produce some interesting games beside their sh**ty and broken stuff. Activision on the other hand… it’s either licensed games like Spiderman or CoD these days… oh and there is Destiny rofl.

CDPR is still young though and they will probably get more into consoles as well but doubt they get into the same situation as Bioware etc… they are independant like Valve so luckily they won’t be corrupted as much in the future.

  4. Redkit for W2 was released 2 years after W2 release. Expecting the RedKit2 definitive date, while they still crunching on updates, just stupid. Its been 3 months since W3 release, cut them some slack. according to their track record of releasing their mod tools, expect it in just under 2 years. Besides, what was anyone here planning on doing with the redkit2 ATM? How many released total conversions were there for W2? From what I remember there was half a dozen texture mods for W2, 2 quest mods maybe? Don’t get me wrong, I want to see the kit come out. It seems as of late, PC players are becoming quite whiny and fatalistic.

  5. whatever CDPR does now always about consoles. even mods they are talking making available for consoles. i have no hate for consoles but even patch parity? 1.07 & 1.08 released simultaneously on all platforms. come on do you take me for a fool that if they didnt pass the consoles certification, how on earth it can achieve simultaneous release?

graphics downgrade.. not to mentioned clunky consolized UIs and menus. now i finished this game on PC with KB&M over 200 hours. i know f* well what i’m talking about. slowmo radial menus, un-bindable keys on PC, scrolling menus.. how f* nice each time you have to collapse all the alchemy, crafting so that you can go to the bottom to craft your trousers?

those who still cheer CDPR is just still in f* dreamland. now don’t get me started on those sexual scenes and torture… which is a big fat joke compared to Witcher 2.
