The Vision is a third-person open-world game that has been in development for 4 years by a single person

Justin Darlington has been working four years in a passion project, called The Vision. The Vision is a third-person open-world survival game that will be using Unreal Engine 4. A couple of days ago, Darlington released a pretty cool trailer for it, therefore we’ve decided to share it with you.

The Vision will offer multi-verse and space travel, something that promises to make its world feel more alive. Players will be able to travel to any period in time on Earth, or in deep space.

Players will have to gather resources and knowledge about their world to survive. Moreover, finding shelter will be a crucial element to their survival in The Vision’s massive open world.

For a game that is made by a single person, The Vision looks stunning. Darlington wants to grow the team so that he can finish the game, though it’s not certain whether such a thing will happen. The game also sounds really ambitious, something that may present major development obstacles to Darlington.

So yeah, take this project for what it really is; a prototype of a game. The following trailer will give you an idea of what Darlington has created so far.

Enjoy!

  1. It looks pretty solid. the possibilities also of time travel seems pretty interesting too.
there is plenty of gamble here in this indie project. but that goes with any new concept.
hopefully this indie further improves upon this project. and turns out to be good.

  2. Maybe it’s just me, but 3rd person keeps me from being zoned in as the player and distracts from the surroundings. Details on this are sharp though.

    1. PHEWWWW!!! Luckily I am supporting first person!!(Check my first video where I semi showcase FPS and switch to TPS)!!!! I am taking all feedback seriously. If you follow my youtube channel, you will find that I will be posting video’s soon about finishing the first prototype. Improving the A.I, Weapons, Viewmodes, so many other things. Might take a few months but I will persist!

All feedback is important, so thank you!! I really do appreciate it!!

      1. So you should like a crap game (not saying this is the case here) because you can’t make one better yourself? That’s just plain retarded.

  3. I just want a modern “The Journeyman Project: Turbo” made by a big studio. I think that is too much to ask on this time and age. 🙁

  4. Looks nice, but why’s it always gotta be third person?. Most 3rd person perspective shooters tend to toss in some horrible aiming, compared to first person, where I just point, click and hit my target dead on. GTA V is a prime example of that crap.

    1. Stay tuned on my YouTube channel! I will be posting some first person content and explaining more of the game!

  5. I would wholeheartedly advise Justin to reconsider on trying to make this into a real full fledged game. Although looks gorgeous, it’s still very bare bones. Or at least try a crowdfunding campaign and see how people react to it.

Best advice in this case would be just use as bargaining chip to land yourself a nice senior (or at least intermediate) developer position in a well respected game studio, that mainly dedicate to 3rd and 1st person shooters. There are still some good and passionate studios/teams around that I’m sure will be more then happy to have such talent on their side.

  6. Four years spent polishing the graphics on a turd person “game” where hold the crosshair over bullet sponges that just stand around. The stuff the voice actress says about what you’ll do in the game is all vaporware nonsense. She says you’ll have to “remain undercover” but the gameplay is all public shootouts. She talks about eating and sleeping but all the player does is shoot bullet sponges.

    1. Correction: Four years spent polishing code, throwing out old code, building systems for upcoming tech demos, modeling and texturing environments, freelance work(takes time depending on client) and so many other things that in hindsight I could have at-least mentioned in the video or description. The game’s original intent was to support third person as well as first person. I will showcase first person and some improved A.I in the next video!

Due to some issues with some of the world, I could not showcase AI moving around only in specific scenes! As for your “all the player does is shoot bullet sponges” comment, “weapons of the past”, which I am clearly using against future enemies which makes them harder to kill.

As for the gameplay showcased in the video(I admit i could have made this point more clear), the prototype takes place in a part of the story where you need to fix a rip in space time. All of our universe is completely empty as you fight to find a way to close the rip.(Due to very low budget, there are no cutscene’s in the game at the moment) So it makes perfect sense to be shooting out in the open like shown in the video. I will touch more on this to avoid any further confusion in the video description. I will also be posting a new video. So stay tuned!

Even without funding, I will continue to have fun developing the game.

I hope you can look past any budget related issues and see the full potential. Thank you for your feedback!

  7. ok, it is now 11/05/2023. this post was 4 years ago and at that time this guy had been working on the game for 4 years. that makes 8 years total. looks to me like this game ain’t gonna happen. this guy has a patreon account seeking donations for the game, last post to it was in june 2023 seeking donations for some kind of mesozoic era dinosaur ue5 trailer. there are several photos from the supposed trailer showing modern era trees and grass, several of them blurry. i’d be careful about giving this person any money.
