And the writing was on the wall. After the huge flop that The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was, Daedalic announced the closure of its development department.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is considered by many as one of the worst games of 2023. And, from the looks of it, the game won’t receive any new major updates.
Daedalic had also plans for a new The Lord of the Rings game. However, the development of this new LOTR game has been halted. Which could be a good thing after what happened with Gollum?
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum never looked that impressive. The fact that the game was delayed multiple times and released in that awful state also speaks for itself. Back then, Daedalic promised to do everything it can in order to fix it. However, it appears that this IP was too big for the studio.
Daedalic will be now focusing on publishing games. For instance, the team will release Unrailed, Barotrauma, Inkulinati, Witch It and Shadow Tactics.
And that is that!

What were they thinking
They were probably thinking Lord of the Rings fans are just like the mindless consumers who buy yearly CoD and sportsball games, so they put in minimal effort to sh¡t out a LotR game. Thankfully they were proven wrong (so wonderfully wrong) and are now paying for their mistakes. They got what they deserved.
no they did not got what they deserved. executives fired the devs for their own mistake. they forced 2d adventure devs to make a 3d gollum game.
Unless you own the company, you’ll do what the boss says. This is what being an employee means. Don’t agree with the project? There’s always the option to walk away. That said, yes, they knew and agreed with everything, so it’s no “eXeCuTiVeS” fault here. Can’t find logics in your statement.
This game, at it’s core was bound to fail. The idea of playing Gollum in a game was as uninteresting as hell. gollum was an interesting character in the movies but for a game?! sometimes the game has the potential but the developers f*ck it up but here , the idea itself was really crappy at the very beginning. now add bad development, average looks and low performance on top of it and there you have a receipt of failing miserably.
Hogwarts Legacy sold well, and the best part is that you can’t even play as Harry Potter. Didn’t matter at all.
I don’t think the core idea was the problem, they just failed to deliver
The moment it was announced, I knew it would be the downfall of this company. Way too “ambitious” for a company like that. They’ve done nothing like it in the past. They moved completely out of their comfort zone. A Gollum game is already a hard sell.
If they only had a bit more ingenuity and creativity, they could’ve stuck to their guns and still make an impressive game about Gollum.
A game similar to Kings Quest 7 would’ve been perfect. Imagine all the creative and funny way to see Gollum get killed.
They offered a lot of great Point & Click and Adventure games, but they flew too close to the sun with this project, farewell
Yea, they should stay on P&C adventured. I would kill for one more Deponia game!
There is a new Deponia game coming out later this year, but it’s a different genre (simulation).
With that said, they can still suck a fat one as they virtue signaled with muh ReFuGeEsWeLcOmE and kept doubling down when people expressed their concerned, so f*ck them. For evidence, look up “Daedelic Entertainment Gets Woke” by Vee on bit-chute.
lol no surprise here. game shouldve never been greenlit!
nvidia dlss 3 sponsored game like redfall
AMD sucks.
and nvidia sucks too.they are companies, nt friends.
Nah, Nvidia is fine. a bit expensive but awesome. AMD on the other hands… sucks donkey balls
Yeah let’s talk about Jedi Survivor and The Callisto Protocol, the dev and the publisher are responsible for this failure, not DLSS3
Callisto had the best graphics on PS5(last year)maybe not the best game but best looking, performance on PS5 was good from launch.
Jedi Survivor also a good looking game, functional from day 1 on PS5 in quality mode not performance.
I finished both games and it was ok.
I repeat maybe not 10/10 games but not like Gollum.
Or let’s make another comparision.
Tlou2 vs Gollum from any technical point.
A lot of people gave 1/10 to TLOU2 for “some” reasons….but then what score you give to games like Redfall and gollum?….-20???
For me Callisto was an 6/10,Jedi 7/10,Tlou2 8/10.
My ratings are based from Graphics,Audio,Gameplay,Narrative and Performance(how good it runs).
Ex: Tlou2 Graphics=9/10(for a PS4 from 2013),Audio=8/10,Gameplay=9/10,Narrative=5/10(plot holes,fillers,save by the plot moments,pregnant lady on the field,sjw),Performance=10/10.
Overall 9+8+9+5+10=41,41÷5=8.2
“My ratings are based from Graphics,Audio,Gameplay,Narrative and Performance”
I was strictly talking about the ports, nothing else, thanks for the effort but your replie is off-topic for the most part
performance=port(how well it runs).
Gollum is 0/10 as a port and a 2/10 game based on my rating system.
Callisto and Jedi from perfomance perspective is miles ahead of Gollum.
*RedFAIL
For almost a decade, games like “evolve”, they’ve been churning out these GAAS and none of them have been successful. Why are they still doing this. All those resources wasted. But yet they are quick to tell you how dead SP games are. I can’t think of one successful GAAS. They took a concept we all love, PVE/horde mode/survival & ruined it.
Very happy news! I wish they would remain unemployed forever.
“Which could be a good thing after what happened with Gollum?”
yes John, ffs. of course it’s a good thing don’t be so naive.
Daedalic Entertainment has killed Daedalic Entertainment.
-FIXED*

They went from Daedalic to Deadalic.
It’s something like this

F***K Unreal Engine 4 !!! https://media3.giphy.com/media/dfDwPQb8pTB2FbqfeS/giphy-downsized-small.mp4
unreal engine 4 had nothing to do with dated gaming mechanics, poorly implemented features, bad story, level design, art or sound.. That’s on Daedalic…
Well good riddance to garbage!
They can join hand with Gollum and share the same f*kn Cave 🤣👌
I hate how one bad game and one incompetent studio always absorbs the negative sentiment and bad press that rightfully belongs to many. The wider industry uses games like this as a shield while continuing to push their own halfassed product. The media is how they do it.
Shame. I pre ordered it, £25, yet still have not installed as I was hoping for patches after reading about the release state. We need more stealth games.
We need good stealth games, this is shaite
Gollum is truly a murderer.
Every developer is just one failure away from closing. Games cost too much to make nowadays.
