Steam has just set a new record of concurrent players. Earlier today, Valve’s service passed over 40 million concurrent players. To be more precise, it hit 40,270,997 concurrent players.
Steam set its previous record of 39 million concurrent players in December 2024. In other words, it took around two months to break it.
Let’s now take a look at the Top 20 Most Played Games in the last 24 hours.
The most played game right now is Counter-Strike 2, followed by Monster Hunter Wilds. Yes, the latest Monster Hunter game is in second place. Capcom’s game hit a peak of 1,38 million concurrent players.
PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS is the third most played game in the last 24 hours, followed by Dota 2 and Marvel Rivals. NARAKA: BLADEPOINT is in seventh place and Grand Theft Auto 5 is in eight place. Yep, GTA 5 is still one of the most popular games. And, it might get even more popular when its Next-Gen Update comes out on March 6th.
Rust and Apex Legends are in ninth and tenth place, respectively. But what about Path of Exile 2? Well, this action RPG (which was the second most played game in December) is now in twenty-fourth place. Ouch. Palworld, Elden Ring and Black Myth: Wukong are not in the Top 25.
Interestingly enough, Baldur’s Gate 3 is still in the Top 25. And that’s not the only game that is still in the Top 25. Delta Force appears to be a successful F2P game. Since December, this F2P shooter has been in the Top 25. The same can be said about Call of Duty, EA Sports FC 25 and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege.
And there you have it. Steam is still growing and, from the looks of it, it has not hit yet its ceiling. This is why most publishers want to be on Valve’s service. The PC crowd that is using it is huge.
For science, I’ve also listed below the Top 20 most played games of all time. As we can see, while some games peaked to extreme degrees when they came out, they are no longer played by a lot of players. Such games are Hogwarts Legacy, Lost Ark, Valheim, Fallout 4 and Cyberpunk 2077. Yes yes, some of them are single-player games and you can’t expect SP games to have the longevity of MP games. Still, it’s an interesting observation.

Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2.
