SEGA Game Gear’s 8-bit Sonic Chaos gets an incredible fan remake, demo available later today [UPDATE: Demo available]

Now here is something really special for all our Sonic fans. A+Start has announced a fan remake of the classic 8-bit SEGA Game Gear Sonic game, Sonic Chaos. Based on the current style of 2D classic Sonic games inspired by Sonic Mania, Sonic Chaos updates the 8 bit visuals of the original and adapts a play style more closely resembling the classic 16-bit games.

According to the team, the game has been in development for almost an entire year, of which 7 months was spent building a brand new engine from scratch. Yeap, you read that right; Sonic Chaos uses a brand new engine, called Crimson Engine, and with it the team has strived for classic Sonic gameplay accuracy.

A demo for Sonic Chaos Remake will be available to play later today, and we’ll make sure to update the story once it’s available. Below you can also find a trailer showing the game in action.

For what it’s worth, I still believe that Sonic the Hedgehog: Triple Trouble is the best SEGA Game Gear Sonic game, so here is hoping that after remaking Sonic Chaos A+Start will remake that too.

Enjoy!

UPDATE:

You can download the demo from here!

  1. Sega is pretty cool with their fanbase. Unlike Nintendo which will usually send a cease and desist immediately and pursue legal action, Sega usually encourages and welcomes fan made projects.

    1. True that!
BUT their AAA sonic games have been extreme abysmal
      you know why? because there is a horde of fans (f u r f a g s mostly)
who will buy the game regardless of it’s $hit just because they’re fans of the series

which guarantees them at least a million copies sold because of the fan-base
i used to be a huge sonic fan before the abomination that was sonic lost world and later completely dumped the series when Sonic Boom was announced

while i played a $hitton of modded classics, fan-projects and 2D remakes (and freedom planet)
i still thirst for that splendid 3D sonic gameplay Sonic adventure offered
but knowing fans cannot make money from their projects
pretty much kills any incentive for developers to make a 3D sonic game

hell Sonic Mania is basically a fan game vincenzoed by Sega and later slapped with Denovu after delaying it for two weeks

Sega is a gorillion times better than $hitendo, but they’re still $hit regardless for Ruining Company of Heroes, and many other franchises…

      1. If I am not mistaken they have already in some occasion taken in people from the modding and fanmade community to work for them. Sure, they are still a company full of flaws. But they are the cool big underdog.
I still lust for THAT sonic too! and for a return to Hardware. I would be first in line to get anything they put out in that department. 🙂
