Rumor: Star Wars Battlefront Will Support 64 Player Matches, Will Feature A “Hero” System

Some new rumors surfaced today regarding DICE’s upcoming Star Wars game, Star Wars Battlefront. Making Star Wars has published a list of leaks from this highly anticipated new Battlefront game, though we strongly suggest taking them with a grain of salt. VG247 – who reported the news – claims that Making Star Wars is credible, so here is hoping that the following information is more than smoke and mirrors.

According to Making Star Wars, the game’s campaign mode will span across most of the Star Wars saga, and is said to be longer than most other modern games. Not only that, but the final section of the campaign is supposed to serve as a prequel to the upcoming The Force Awakens film.

The game’s Multiplayer mode will support fights with 64 players, and will sport space-to-land battles.

In addition, a new “Hero” system has been revealed. According to Making Star Wars’s leaks, players will accumulate points that they can eventually cash in to play as a “hero” character. Hero characters are extremely powerful and have abilities that are not available to the normal characters that you play for most of the matches.

Last but not least, EA/DICE have ‘aggressive plans’ for Star Wars: Battlefront’s DLC. It is said that there will be around five DLCs, with the first coming out before the end of 2015.

Here is the full list of leaks:

  • The story of Star Wars: Battlefront’s campaign will span pretty much the entire Star Warssaga.
  • Star Wars Battlefront will feature segments in which you play as both the good guys (Old Republic, Rebellion and Republic) and bad guys (Separatists and the Empire). It was specifically stated that there will be a small portion of prequel trilogy content. You will participate in a couple of battles from the Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and the space battle above Corsucant from the beginning of Revenge of the Sith.
  • The majority of the campaign will take place during the original trilogy era. All of the battles and settings that you would expect to be there will be playable. It was said that the campaign itself is pretty long when compared to other first person shooters.
  • There will be some segments of the campaign which take place between Return of the Jediand The Force Awakens. There won’t be a lot because in their words “Lucasfilm has a lot of plans for that era.”
  • The last section of the campaign takes place before and during the opening segments of The Force Awakens. Don’t expect anything too revealing, because the game is expected to ship about a month before the movie releases.
  • For both the Republic (that’s what the good guys are being called in the production here) and Empire sections you will be playing characters that actually appear in The Force Awakens.
  • EA/DICE was allowed into Pinewood Studios for a few days to scan and capture props, sets, etc for recreation in the game.
  • At one point either during either the portion between episodes 6 and 7 or the portion from the beginning of The Force Awakens a character with the last name Tarkin appears.
  • The scale of the multiplayer is going to be absolutely massive with up 64 players participating on each side.
  • Space to land battles are absolutely happening, but will only be available in certain game modes.
  • There will be a “hero” system in place, where as you play you accumulate points that you can eventually cash in to play as a “hero” character. These characters are extremely powerful and have abilities that are not available to the normal characters that you play for most of the matches. The system is constantly in flux, but as it is now, pretty much everyone have a chance to play as a hero at least once per match.
  • The Downloadable Content plan for the game is “extremely aggressive”. Expect up to five DLC packs for the game, with the first coming out before the end of 2015. Each pack will be themed, with the first two or three being exclusively based around content from The Force Awakens.
  • The game will ship with several The Force Awakens characters already, but some won’t be added until DLC. Specifically all of the characters in the trailers will be available at launch, as will new versions of the X-wing an TIE fighter.
  • Tons of new ships and vehicles.
  • The contents of each DLC will contain at least three new maps, new hero characters, and new vehicles/ships.
  • I saw a character model for the new Stormtroopers, the model for the new X-wings, and some random models of guns, grenades, and other things like that. However, the most interesting thing was a picture of a screen from one of the employee databases.
  • It was as a checklist that the department heads can go through to see whats been complete, whats been bug tested, etc. It was basically just a black screen with lines and lines of text posts, with comments and suggestions under each post. What was most interesting about this is what was listed. This particular screen I saw was for a listing of maps for the multiplayer mode. There was a lot of stuff that you’d expect to see in a game like this like:
Hoth: EP5
Endor: EP6
Alderaan
Corscucant
Yavin: EP4
  • Like I said, nothing major. EXCEPT for this listing that I saw
Tatooine: EP1
Tatooine; EP4
Tatooine: EP7
  • Now, I know that’s not concrete evidence that the desert planet from The Force Awakens is Tatooine, but I thought it was interesting because I know there was been some debate about that subject.

  1. “The scale of the multiplayer is going to be absolutely massive with up 64 players participating *on each side.*”

Doesn’t that mean there will be 128-player battles?

    1. The Frostbite 3 engine is quite capable of having that many players, Lets hope they have larger maps than BF4 to support that many players.

      1. So they claim, anyway. It’s never actually been showcased in any shape or form, so I’d take even that claim with a BIG grain of salt, considering the source in question here.

        1. Well there were modded BF3 servers which had 128 players, Sure it may not be official but still proof that it can indeed work.

    2. As DSO-G said, grain of salt, but yeah, they really missed out on 128-P with BF4, if they don’t do it this time around….

Then again, Frostbite 3 is a joke, so you never know, maybe they were BSing all their claims that it can go beyond 64-P.

Also – “is said to be longer than most other modern games.” So, instead of
the usual 7 Missions Battlefield Games have, we’ll get some 10-12?

P.S. Oh ffs, not the Hero System again, that completely unbalanced & threw every-single SWBF2 round out of whack whenever those bastards would pop in, & DICE can’t balance for sh*t.

Loving the fact that we’re hearing about DLC Plans already, queue the standard “Star Wars: Battlefront Premium” which we’ll probably be lucky to see for 50$, if not 60/70. Also, “at least 3 news maps” – nice to see the downgrade from 4 to 3 Per-DLC. Guess they found another way to cut corners.

Queue SWBF2 DLCs only having “at least 2 new Maps” each.

      1. The game will probably be $60, with a $30 Season Pass. I was flipping through Steam and it seems those prices are somewhat normal, unfortunately.

  2. Cant wait to see this transformed into yet another pathetic CoD killer with shtty fast movement, dude bro gangsta rap and all that bullsht.

  3. While I did have some fun with the latest Battlefield Hardline beta but this game is the one game that I’ve been waiting for and will no doubt purchase day one.

  4. From Site:

“Clarification Update: The source contacted me to let me know they simply
meant the prequel era Republic when they said “Old Republic.” They did
not mean the story from 3000 years before A New Hope. They also said online matches are 64 players, 32 on each side”

  5. Instead of 128players, I would suggest 96 players and 3 factions. Would make the game much more random. 96 players is more realistic. Think about it, the server costs of hosting 128p would be more, and the requirements would be quite high too. At this point, 96 seems better, more feasible.

  6. I Love EA 😀 That Game Will be Awesome 🙂
    Looking forward to IT 😀
And what i’ve hear will be Mantle 2.0 and DX12 from the begining…

  7. The Downloadable Content plan for the game is “extremely aggressive”

Hmm.. this makes me hate the game before it’s even out.. I’m sure it will be a great game, but surely there must be a better way for an online FPS games to sell DLC? Selling maps just splits the community. I hate how some of my friends don’t have the maps that i do usually..

    1. Queue SWBF Premium. Also loving how the minimum amount of Maps Per-DLC has gone from “at least 4” down to “at least 3″….. *hint hint*

      1. This is why I’m refusing to buy games like this at launch. Hate buying something that you know should be in the game when it launches. If they know it’s going to be in the game just add it in the launch version.

  8. Luke, you can destroy the Emperor. He has foreseen this. It is your
destiny! Join me, and together, we can rule the galaxy as father and
son! Come with me. It is the only way…..

  9. I was all like HELL YEAH then I saw this… FML

The Downloadable Content plan for the game is “extremely aggressive”. Expect up to five DLC packs for the game, with the first coming out before the end of 2015. Each pack will be themed, with the first two or three being exclusively based around content from The Force Awakens.

So I have to Pay $100+ to get the full game….
