Resident Evil 7 is Capcom’s second top selling game of all time

Capcom has updated its Platinum Titles list, revealing that Resident Evil 7 is its second top selling game of all time. The best selling game for Capcom is Monster Hunter World (which has sold 16.1 million units). Resident Evil 7 follows with 7.9 million units, surpassing other Resident Evil releases like Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 for old-gen platforms.

What’s also interesting here is that Resident Evil 2 Remake is now the fifth top selling game for Capcom. RE2 Remake came out in January 2019 and has sold 7.2 million units so far. Thus, I’m pretty sure that it will surpass Resident Evil 7 in the next couple of years.

Do note that this list features individual game releases. It does have the total sales for each franchise. This basically means that Resident Evil 4 Wii and Resident Evil 4 PS2 and Resident Evil 4 PS3/X360 are three separate games. The same applies to Resident Evil 5 which was re-released on multiple platforms.

So yeah, make no mistake; Resident Evil 7 has not surpassed the total sales of Resident Evil 5 or Resident Evil 6.

Street Fighter 5 has also sold 4.7 million units, whereas Devil May Cry 5 has sold 3.7 million units. Resident Evil 3 Remake has sold 2.7 million units and Monster Hunter World Iceborne has sold 5.8 million units.

  1. I really hate the state of RE series and the sad part we can’t do anything about it
its things like this that make me lose faith in the gaming community

    1. what?!? RE7 and RE2 remake were both VERY good. RE3 is a step back in the wrong direction, but still MUCH better than 5 and 6. I hope you’re not saying you miss those games…

        1. i played through both a couple of months ago, i hated both back then now i love them both to death.
maybe it’s because modern games and the state of game industry is so shet that even shetty games from past are great by today’s standards.

          1. i feel the same way about doom 3 but i still dont “love it”, the industry is unsalvagable.

      1. re7 could be better, mansion was too small and samey, needed more color too, puzzles were meh, enemy designs were awful, i coundt hit sht with the awful aiming and the way enemies move, buy i could hit them in the dlc that has actual sights aiming. Also id argue 6 is so bad at being a re game that is a decent action game.

  2. How is RE4 not in their top 10 list? In my mind…. after all the re-releases and systems it sold on… It just seemed like it would be way up there.

Good it must surpass re7 as it is a better game and a example of how to make re games while remake 3 and re5 is examples how not to do it.

Never knew monster hunter has such a wide audience, i played the first and it was unbearable and borring.

    1. MH audience has always been big, but mostly on japan. And while true the first installements of the series have indeed tedious beggining, hell even later ones if i’m being honest, first 2 stars of the game are basically the tutorial,

World improved the graphics that had been basically the same since the beggining, made the segmented areas one big map which means no more loads mid hunt and gave it some basic story.

Also the meat of the game is the hunt/gameplay so if you don’t like that fair enough, so MH is not for u.

        1. A very basic Story-line do not expect anything fancy, its basically just to make sense as to why you are traveling the regions. It’s like i said the meat of the game is still the hunt. Try the cracked verison see if the improvments are enough for you, iif not you just wasted bandwith.

  4. Most if not all of those top selling games will be coming to PS5 with updated graphics next year. One I can say for sure is DMC5 with a special edition with Virgil playable like they did with DMC3 and 4

  5. RE7 is fantastic. Played through the game 3 times. One of them on mushrooms in VR. What a flippin trip! I really liked the game. It just felt unique and had an arcade feel to it. Def my favorite Resident Evil game

any game is fantastic when you are high on shrooms on vr.

  6. I was hoping for a Code Veronica remake first instead of RE4. Especially now that RE8 is set in a village setting as well.
I agree with RE3. It was a huge letdown and a wasted opportunity. Instead of making Nemesis a true “realtime” threat like Mr X on RE2 Remake, they reduced him into cutscenes, qte’s and speedrun from point A to B until the next cutscene.
