Resident Evil 2 Reborn – Fan Remake Of Resident Evil 2 – Is Cancelled

And this was to be expected. When Capcom revealed that it was officially beginning the development of Resident Evil 2 Remake, we knew that Resident Evil 2 Reborn would never see the light of day. And today, Invader Games announced that its project has been cancelled.

As the team noted, Capcom got in touch with it and asked them to stop development. Now contrary to other companies, Capcom invited Invader Games so they can discuss further ideas about the official Resident Evil 2 Remake.

“Capcom called us up in advance of the announcement and asked us if we would mind stopping the project as they had longer term plans for a Resident Evil 2 Remake. They have invited us to a meeting to discuss further ideas.”

Obviously, this is great news for Invader Games as Capcom recognized its work. Here is hoping that the team will not only influence this upcoming Remake, but that it will be hired by the Japanese company.

    1. More like what they were allowed to state in public to avoid a shitstorm. It’s highly debatable that they were really invited to do anything at all. Possibly they got a C&D and some legal agreement to never even attempt a stunt and use Capcom’s IPs to gain easy recognition.

        1. Do you realise that Black Mesa was created by a team of 40 volunteers who did not work for Valve (hence the word volunteers) and Garry’s Mod was developed by Facepunch Studios ?

I am not going to bother anwsering the other 2 claims since do you not even know the basics. Valve hasn’t made a new game for years now.

          1. It’s the community which contributes not Valve so why should Valve take the credit ? They have an engine available so what , UE and Unity are available too

Their recents feats are nothing to talk about , shall we talk about their team behind CS:GO ? 5 people , amazing good job Valve so open minded that they can’t do the basics which other companies do /s

          2. Not talking about their recent feats, games developed or what give you, I have a lot of problems with Valve too.
But credit where it is due, their support for user generated content is at the very least “good”, especially in comparison with the Japanese Devs (that was the point of Umair comment). 🙂

          3. You just proved my point. Valve could send them a letter claiming that they own the rights to Half Life and they should stop the development of Half Life remake but they didn’t and they even allowed them to put their game on early access/steam.

Blizzard on other hand is allowing users to make Warcraft 3 remake and even released HD assets for them to use, while other companies shut down the project, so they can make their own version of remake to earn dat money.

Blizzard and Valve’s plans are long term plans. They don’t think about earning quick bucks but to support a big community that will be loyal to them and buy their games in the future. And seems like their methods work, since both companies have billions of dollars.

  1. Man, good on Capcom for recognising the graft those guys put in. Still sad to see this isn’t going to get completed, but that was a seriously classy conceit from Capcom.

  2. Capcom recognize efforts of their fans? I better blast through my backlog before the world ends!

Best of luck for these guys, let’s hope that Capcom does the same for the RE4 HD Project guys too! Both deserve it!

  3. You know If I was even remotely interested on a Re remake was because this project, now I don’t care anymore, Capcom can shove on its a*s it’s remake.

  4. Hey Capcom this is what you NEED to do ASAP! those people who were working on RE 2 Reborn , hire them asap, work with them, listen to their suggestions, pay attention to why they wanted to make a remake because if you end up messing FU#@@ up the remake you will suffer greatly!

  5. Well, who knows, this might be good news too. These guys were going to add the classic camera and more stuff after all, so maybe Capcom will use the assets or that kind of stuff for the remake.

  6. A thing that I liked about Invader Game’s work is they where also planning on bringing it to further operating systems other than just Windows (such as Linux and Mac). Since they stopped working on it because Capcom is well. There goes that idea.
