Red Dead Redemption 2 gets a Steam release date

It has been more than a year since the console release of Red Dead Redemption 2 and less than a month, since the PC release on the Epic store and the Rockstar launcher. Now Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released on Steam on December 5th.

Sadly, there will be no discount on the game, since the Steam autumn sale ends on December 3rd. The good news is that the game have received several updates since launch, meaning Steam users will probably have a smoother ride, hopefully.

Unfortunately, if I am not mistaken, the game will still require the Rockstar launcher, which honestly kind of sucks. Having multiple launchers for the same game is never welcome.

Thanks Eurogamer.

  1. Already bought it rockstar launcher, $43.19 out the door, is a steal for a new release.

I would love to get it on steam, but yeah as the article states, it still uses the rockstar launcher, so whats the point really.

      1. the trolling against epic has been rebooted way too many times now.
I still don’t understand the issue of convenience some gamers have.

“All my games in one place”

        1. You could download GOG galaxy.

        2. or you can take it a step further and stream your whole index of games on the go with game pass. if convenience is more of your plight.

        3. Or if that’s too convenient for you. that you refuse to click more than a few clicks away. you could at least make a separate folder and place your launchers there.

        1. I prefer using all of my steam features with all of my games. Like forums, Guides, FPS counter, Broadcast, sharing my game game library, and now remote play. All of the features which Epic launcher has none of.

      2. 1. The game in steam just makes you turn on rockstar launcher and game launches from there. Do you really need all the extra steps to turn on your game?
        2. I never even mentioned EGS, I bought it straight from rockstar.
        3. Again, you get triggered so easily. Never mentioned EGS.

  2. Not gonna be going for it, since it’s still janky, kills higher end hw, still costs a lot and will require that crappy R* client to run it.

    1. Yeah, if I do buy RDR2 then it won’t be for some time yet. Once it’s been patched to an acceptable standard and some decent mods are available then I’ll consider it. By which time it’ll be available at a nicer price.

That said, due to them having taken Timmy Tencent’s money I might simply pirate it instead.

      1. Like I just want my 1080ti to run it as it should everything else. This game in no way deserves the “it’s Crysis now bois” crown, that fanboys think it deserves. It’s a console port no matter what journo or dev states otherwise, because sodding PC versions made for PC, actually allow my GPU TO RUN THE DAMN THING FINE AND DANDY. Not this trivial bs, where I have to turn down an insane amount of settings, almost at console level, just to be able to run things semi smoothly (looking at you GTA V, you rotten pos).

The fact this game will need two clients to run the game shows it’s a total crock of sh*t.

        1. RDR2 run 2160p 30fps on Xbox One X (6 TFLOPS). If you use console settings you can play 50-60 fps in 4K on 1080Ti (11 TFLOPS)

  3. That doesn’t leave Rockstar much time to fix the existing beta release in readiness for the game’s true launch day.

  4. Have they just announced this? seems a little late? I guess that means Steam is also enforcing their 1 month limit, wasn’t sure they actually would. That’ll put a dent in Epics “anybody but Steam” tactics, good!
