Red Dead Redemption 2 has just been released on consoles and alongside with it came a companion app. And from the looks of it, the game’s companion app features references to a PC version, hinting that it will come to the PC in the future.
Now this should not surprise us as Rockstar did the exact same thing with Grand Theft Auto 5. As we’ve already reported, we are pretty sure that Red Dead Redemption 2 will eventually come to the PC and that it’s a matter of “when” and not a matter of “if.”
As RockstarIntel reported, here are the the most important command lines featured in the companion app that also hint at a PC version.

We also discovered NVIDIA’s anti-aliasing technique buried inside the companion app. TXAA is an anti-aliasing technique exclusive to the PC. Do note that there is a separate parameter for the consoles’ TAA so yeah, this is a clear reference to the PC AA option. Grand Theft Auto 5 used NVIDIA’s TXAA so it appears that the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 will also be using it (either that or it’s a leftover).

Now there is a possibility that all these PC references are just leftovers due to Rockstar’s laziness (you know, simply copy-pasting most of the parameters that were present in GTA 5’s companion app). As such, we’re marking this as a rumour and nothing more. Still, where there is smoke there is always fire.

It’s still a VIDEO GAME, it’s here to be played not watched, at least not in a full playthrought, even if the gameplay is rigid as hell in GTA IV, it’s immersive and you’re really gonna be attached to the main character and identifing yourself to it, not to mention things like the choices you do and the friends system that doesn’t make sens at all while watching another guy playing it for you with his choices, if you think that a game is better be watched, so you hate it and there is no point watching it at all, there are movies that give you better stories anyway

I’m currently watching the new Cthulhu game on YT. Do I think it’s a great game? No, the player just walks around rooms and presses ONE BUTTON on every significant object. It’s a walking simulator, a playable movie. It makes sense to outsource the “playing” to someone else, all the real value of the game is in its atmosphere, its sights and sounds. And I’m getting that.
RDR2 is obviously a bit more interactive than Cthulhu but again, you get the visuals and sound just fine, no need to play the game yourself if all you want to do is admire the graphics. I think the original RDR is a deeply flawed game and my impression has been that the sequel fixes none of the flaws. If it were out on PC already I wouldn’t buy it and I likely won’t buy it once it comes out. I might do the same as OP and watch an hour of RDR2 on youtube one day if I get bored and can’t think of anything better to do.
YouTube have low quality… This game is native 2160p with high quality textures, you should watch it on GamerSyde. GamerSyde have 10x better quality thanks to 30 Mbps bitrate. Videos looks nearly as good as real game on Xbox One X

The X is the best version by resolution if you sit 2ft to 4ft away from your television after that barely any difference between the pro. Both consoles are using the same assets and fps with the X have a tad better stability on 30fps. Want a cookie for this achievement

My gtx 970 will play this better than your xbox one x
Ya right. You can try running shadow of the tomb raider in 1800p on your 970 at high settings with around 20 fps if not less. If you cant pirate shadow of the tomb raider just yet, you can also try testing wolfenstein 2. For comparison 1060 with 2 GHz OC run this game in 4K dynamic at around 45-55 fps LOW/MEDIUM SETTINGS (YT’er santiago santiago benchmarked this game on his 1060), while xbox X run the same game with even higher settings and 55-60fps. Yes, high end PC will run xbox x games much better, but the problem is you dont have high end PC if you game on ancient 970, and at this point even poor xbox x GPU is faster than your GPU.

Your dear santiago has no good CPUs. He also tested shadow of the tomb raider using a 3GB 1060. His tests are pretty awful unless you also have a low end system.
Santiago also tested lower resolutions, and because performance was much better, so low 4K performance was only result of weak GPU. On my 1080ti game runs perfect in 4K, but not on 1060, and not to mention 970 (vram would limit 970 performance even more). And 2080ti performance in this particular game is insane (120 fps in 4K native, not dynamic), so high end PC can provide better performance compared to even xbox x, but not 970 because this particular card cant even match xbox x result in GPU bound game.

Santiago test many GPU models. In wolfenstein 2 gameplay in partucular he used GTX 1060 6 GB (you can read in his video description) while 970 has 4 GB (and only 3.5 GB work correctly). GTX 1060 6GB is simply more capable GPU in new games because of VRAM alone.

Ya game looks amazing. I will play it at 30fps on xbox x now and later on PC platform (hopefully R* will port it). I have played RDR 1 for the first time on xbox x and 30fps on gamepad is not so big issue and especially if you game on new samsung QLED (samsung qleds upscale motion with better input lag results than most HDTV’s without motion interpolarion :P, so what samsung engineers have achieved is really amazing).

I’ve been watching some of the game-play on Youtube that people have uploaded, specifically of a person hunting animals. The attention to detail in this game is insane and a PC version is going to be so good when it comes. Rockstar truly did an outstanding job with it.
its insanely detailed, but its as low paced story game that you use crappy guns to shoot samey dudes while riding on a horse. It feels like a downgrade from gta v and other open world games. After playing RDR 2 for almost 4 hours I have never been more convinced that a PC version is coming. This game is designed for the typical PC gamer nowadays with the tags open-world, survival, crafting. This game will do gangbusters when it releases on PC and if they have a Battle-Royal mode I can see it being on top of Steam charts for years to come. There is no way in hell this not coming to PC, I can bet my life on it.

A hardcore PC-only game here like most of you guys…but watching DigitalFoundry’s tech analysis, and other gameplay videos of this game, RDR2 is mighty impressive! I really hope it comes on PC, bcoz it trumps TW3(not visually always ofcourse) overall in the small details in the open-world, and we can easily say TW3 is the benchmark of AAA open-world games currently on PC.
RDR 2 is not coming to PC. No official announcement from R*. RDR1 never did so… history is repeating itself.

I just dont get it. The way i see it, it would be better if tthey went all the way the other direction and make it a ovr the top wild west action game like call of juarez or gun. It’s a good looking game for the most part (ignore Water, it’s from PS2 era), some good details here and there, nice story and characters, to many riding (forced) from point A to B to advancing the story which is not good, screams bad design.

Now if you like the game that’s another thing, but we should boycott these sort of practices in order to make devs desist doing them, and trust me, if everybody was as firm as some of us are, these things would’ve disappeared already.
There are things in gaming that are top priority than late ports mate, bad ports for example, i don’t buy bad ports, i pirate them, but late ports are a minor issue when you see the context, things like P2W mecanics, political agendas, enormous season passes, anti modding, and DRM’s are biggest issues than late ports
I can agree that some stuff is more important than others, but these kind of practices are also important, and together with a game which isn’t anything incredible, is stuff to complain about.
I remember when GTA V was out for 360/ps3, the entire PC community was begging for a port, i’ve seen people beyond horrified being completely a** licking to R* because at these days, the majority of people were not sure if it will come to PC or not following the absence of RDR1, even on this site that was like that, nowadays everyone knows that RDR2 will come someday, and all you see is complaining cause everyone takes it for granted, i’m a PC Gamer myself, from the mid 90’s i was playing on PC, i played on consoles too but i always prefered PC, but honestly, the PC community can be real sh*t sometimes, just go to modding sites like Nexus or Moddb, you’ll see people being very toxic to modders even if it’s free stuff cause complain is in their DNA, also remember the state of the AAA PC gaming in the mid 2000, in the 360/PS3 era, it was a disaster, intrusive DRM everywhere, bad ports, and plenty of games not released at all, and we had that from every single publisher except Valve, i’ve seen this at the time, and now the PC scene is absolutely fantastic compared to those times, i consider late ports a very tiny problem (can be worse). Also to finish (i hope) we all agree that if R* confirm one day that there will be no RDR2 for PC for sure, the guys complaining for a late port will be more pissed off.

You talk like rockstar makes definitive, perfect games when in fact they’re just meh games, an open world isn’t necessarily more complicated than a non-open world one, also, GTA V didn’t seem that much better on PC than it was on console, except texture quality, which is obviously bumped on pc due to the much more powerful hardware most of the times.
Open world game are a thing, a non open world are another, where did you see that i sayed open world games are better ? Also, meh or not games is a matter of taste, and GTAV run smooth on wide vareity of hardware, including dx9 cards, 60fps exlusively on PC, better textures and even better lighting/draw distance, and don’t forget about the R* Editor that was PC specific for a long time + unofficial mod support for SP, good KBM controls and raw input support, a wide range of AAA games PC ports (that come day one with console release) are not reaching the knee of the PC Port of GTAV, and still PC players think they’re hated by R*, what a joke !! (Go ckeck comparison screens for god’s sake)
Also they never stated officialy things that can be interpreted as hate for the PC community, unlike Ubi or Warner

GTA V is an ok game in technical terms, it’s nothing special, it’s not light and not heavy but it behaves weirdly at high resolutions. Besides being a pretty poor GTA and still nothing great as a game itself. Controls are ok, but i’m not sure you realize we’re talking about multi billionaire companies here, and rockstar is one of the few making these console temporary exclusives. And stop with this retrded use of the word “hate”, nobody is hating anything here, it’s just complaining.
