Rad Rodgers is a new platformer from the creators of Rise of the Triad, gets Kickstarter campaign

Interceptor Entertainment has announced a new action-packed scrolling platformer, Rad Rodgers. Rad Rodgers is a tribute to old-school platformers, will powered by Unreal Engine 4 and will feature two main characters: a twelve year-old Rad Rogers and his console-come-to-life ball busting buddy, Dusty.

Frederik Schreiber, Creative Director on Rad Rodgers, said:

“I grew up during the platformer’s glory days, with Mario, Sonic, Megaman, Castlevania, and Earthworm Jim. Back then a new platformer came out every month, each with different fun characters and twists. But now the genre is mostly abandoned, with rare standouts like Braid, and the puzzle-focused Limbo.”

Scott Miller, Founder of Apogee and 3D Realms, added:

“Apogee used to rule the top ten PC shareware and sales charts in the early 90’s with our platformer releases, like Duke Nukem, Commander Keen, Cosmo, and a dozen others. The idea of developing a similar style game with today’s tech is extremely appealing to me. So while the Apogee brand is under completely new management, we can still involve key talent at 3D Realms to co-produce Rad Rogers, and give Interceptor the right design guidance to ensure that the game lives up to the high standards of the platformers’ golden era.”

Jacob Ostergaard, Lead Designer on Rad Rodgers, concluded:

“To make sure Rad Rogers is not just a modern rehash of old-school platformers, we’re adding several super cool features never seen in a platformer, all designed to power-up the fun factor. First off, Rad’s console companion, Dusty, loves to break the fourth wall, talking about the game itself, and to the player! This often confuses Rad, but Rad just thinks Dusty has lost his marbles.”

It is also said that Rad Rodgers will be a game within a game, and this Matrix-style structure allows for the concept of the Pixelverse, coding breakdowns within the game that create rips in the space-time fabric of the game world. Only Dusty can enter these damaged game-code areas and fix the primary game world, allowing both Rad and Dusty to continue their adventures.

Rad Rodgers is currently seeking support on Kickstarter. The campaign runs from September 6th 2016 until October 5th and the team aims to raise $50K.

Enjoy!

  1. Don’t get George Broussard involved in this, or this game won’t be released until it changes its graphics engine at least three times.

I don’t dig the cursing in the trailer. It’s cheap humor like in Sausage Party and get’s tiring after a while.

  2. Uh, since when have platformers been abandoned? Seems like a new one comes out every day on Steam. Granted, most of them suck but that doesn’t mean the genre has been abandoned.

  3. Looks great, almost a Rachet and Clank vibe going on. They will need to have a Clean Language toggle in the options menu if they want to be successful though. The language doesn’t bother me at all, but I’ve seen clearly mature games run into issues on steam for having even occasional swears in it, without that option.

      1. Specifically,
Raw Data it kind of drove me nuts too. The game is in early access, I think the charecters might drop a rare word or two whn the action hits the fan like a “O S**t!” or “F**k!” maybe like once in a 20 min match. But that lead to some people raising all heck about wanting to let thier kids play, and how there needed to be alternative dialogue. Forget that the devs are still making the core game. Forget that your shooting and chopping limbs off, the language is what they wanted the devs to go back and change.
I won’t post a link because this site auto flags any links and dumps the post into awaiting approval, but if you go to the Raw Data discussion Board on steam and search for a thread titled Foul Language you will find a 70 reply thread just about that sigh

        1. Seems like a one off for me. I haven’t heard of anyone else having issues. Though it is hilarious how language is the issue in a violent game. I always found it hilarious playing on Christian Battlefield servers with their absurd rules.

  4. How about they finish the game they released in January before they ask fans themselves to fund their new project? Bombshell’s last patch was 4 months ago and the miracle patch which is supposed to make it the game it was supposed to be at launch was announced 3 months ago. It’s been radio silence from Interceptor since then and they have the gall to ask ‘fans’ (if they have any left after the disastrous launch of RotT and the current state of Bombshell) to fund their new game? They just added themselves to my list of developers to steer clear from.

As for the game itself, it looks average. Could go either way. Also I see why people complained about the swearing scene. It’s not the foul language itself, it’s just a very low quality cringey scene. I see what they were going for but it could’ve been done better. Lastly they’re asking to get sued by Games Workshop. No way in hell that gun isn’t a direct ripoff of the Warhammer 40,000 Bolt Pistol.

    1. Agreed. RoTT sounded cool as an idea but the actual game sucked. Bombshell seems very mediocre and the prequel FPS is nowhere to be found.
Generally speaking, this company isn’t exactly trustworthy.
