Project CARS Delayed, Now Coming in April 2015

Bandai Namco and Slightly Mad Studios announced today that Project CARS will be slightly delayed, and is now planned for an April 2nd release on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. According to the development team, this delay will let it further enhance and polish the game.

Ian Bell, Head of Studio at Slightly Mad Studios, said:

“Moving a release date was not an easy decision to make, as we know our fans are eager to get their hands-on on Project CARS. But we know that these extra days will allow us to provide the best game experience that our fans deserve. We assure you the wait will be worth it when the game does arrive early April.”

Project CARS aims to deliver the most authentic, beautiful, intense, and technically-advanced racing game on the planet. Project CARS includes the largest track roster of any recent racing game, a huge variety of motorsports to play, a freeform and authentic career mode, world-class graphics and handling, dynamic time of day & weather, and a suite of community features and connectivity that leave the competition behind in the dust.

Enjoy!

  1. After releases like Raven’s Cry i told myself i will not complain about delays ever again. It may bother you or annoy you, but suck it up, it’s infinitely better than releasing a broken pos

      1. God no. 🙂 It was just that the game got delayed like more than 10 times and people were getting sick of that. Then the devs released the game and it still to this day missing over a hundred voice overs. So i learned a lesson from that launch.

    1. funny thing is, they delayed RC a bunch of times and it did no good what so ever. in my book, these types of delays only means doom

  2. March is very competitive, at first they chose nov 2014, which was also extremely competitive, they got scared, moved it to march, but than, gta v got delayed to march as well, they should’ve moved the release date earlier, there is nothing to play what’s left of this month…

    1. April moves the tax quarter in the U.S. As a British company I don’t know if it has the same effect but depending on their tax year start, the move to April may be more about showing a loss in 2014.

    1. So?
Not being rude here, just wanna know what were you trying to say. I mean, after 2014, we should encourage devs to delay their games if they’re not ready.

      1. Delay doesn’t mean a good final product. They can delay the game years and years (Duke Nukem) and the final product is Garbage. It’s all about how much love you give to your game (DmC 2013 a perfect port), and how much you respect the gamers.

        1. Just in case you didn’t get a notification, I tagged you in a reply to Amir’s post. You can read it if you want. Cheers

Edit: Sorry…the tag looked broken but it fixed itself after I refreshed the page.

      2. simple. don’t announce your game until it’s ready, or don’t give it a release date if it’s not ready. who says delays make games better ? watchdogs delayed almost a year, ravens cry the same, did they fixed them ? NO, also more delays = more development cost, which could lead to less effort on game or fixing it or adding new stuff

        1. No, Amir, it’s rarely that simple, especially for today’s AAAs. Game development is a very complex and creative process and, even if you have a strong vision, a lot of things can go wrong or change from the initial idea stage to the finished product. Plus there’s other factors I won’t even bother mentioning.

And yes, delays do make games better, most of the time. I say most of the time because there are other reasons why a dev would decide to delay a game besides it not being finished. And 90% of the time, a savvy gamer can see through the PR smoke screen and tell if the game was delayed because the dev genuinely wanted to improve it or because there were other reasons to do so (financial, competition…etc). By the way, can you imagine how Watchdogs and Raven’s Cry would have been like upon release if they hadn’t been delayed? Most likely unplayable…and by unplayable I really mean unplayable, as in not even being able to play it. 😉

The simple fact is: In majority of cases, a delayed game is gonna end up being better than it was before the delay, and it’s never gonna end up being worse (well, maybe if you sack an almost complete game and start all over for some inexplicable reason, but that’s another thing). No sane dev would delay their game to make it worse…not even Ubisoft. Also, delaying a game in an effort to fix it cannot, in any way, shape or form, lead to “less effort on game or fixing it”.

However, as @ArchnophobiA:disqus mentioned, a delayed game doesn’t automatically mean a perfect or a bug-free game…or even a good game. Some people have that expectation but it doesn’t really work like that. And while I agree that devs need to love their job and be passionate about it and respect their customers in order to be successful (as with any other job), that is not enough. They also need talent, the know-how and the resources to take their ideas and turn them into a great game. A studio with no direction/skill/whatever can delay their game for an eternity, it’s still not gonna end up being good. If they’re constantly running in circles, there’s only so much they can do before they run out of money, at which point they’re either gonna release an unfinished game and hope for the best, of just cancel the thing and forget it ever happened.

PS: Sorry for long and late reply, guys. I was busy. 🙂

          1. nice but long comment dude 😀 you have good points and i agree with most of things you said, thumbs up.

  3. As I own the game since the first day back in October 2011, I can assure you that the game still needs a lot of polishing and a lot of details to be added.
Physics are still not finished, cars with mobile parts (like ailerons and such) still are not reacting or moving at all (for example the Pagani Huayra aero parts react with aerodynamics, when you brake or at higher speeds some parts move independent, yet those are not functional, they put a basic animation a while back but that just it).

I saw that new delay coming. Is not because of consoles since the game is running smooth judging by some testers and such. They also need some licences with some tracks and cars as well.

  4. I’m excited. Still buying on release date. But I’m not pre-ordering.

I’d love if that Rain update launched with the game instead of post launch though.

  5. I wasn’t and still not even waiting for this game LOL and there are millions like me XD Slightly Stupid Studios don’t have to worry about it! They can take as much time as they like for me I consider them somewhat… close to none.
