Snapshot Games has announced Phoenix Point, the spiritual successor to X-COM that is being developed by the original creator of the X-COM. Phoenix Point will be a turn-based tactics and world-based strategy game that will launch Q4 2018, and Snapshot Games launched a FIG campaign to raise $500K.
According to the press release, Phoenix Point draws inspiration from a deep pool of talented developers from companies such as Ubisoft Sofia and Crytek Black Sea, and games such as XCOM 2 and X-COM Apocalypse.
In Phoenix Point, each mission will require you to deploy a squad of four or more soldiers, sometimes accompanied by aerial or ground based drones. Battles are turn based, with overwatch and return fire providing a great level of interaction. Soldiers have a willpower stat as well as endurance. Will points are used to spend on special abilities and strenuous physical or mental exertion.
Julian Gollop, CEO of Snapshot Games, said:
“We are creating Phoenix Point by taking influences from the famed X-COM franchise. We are updating our favorite gameplay features from X-COM titles such as UFO: Enemy Unknown and X-COM Apocalypse that I designed, and mixing them with some of the amazing ideas Firaxis Games executed brilliantly in their franchise reboots, to create an entirely new game whose essence lies in the XCOM genre.”
Enjoy!

What.
Wow, didn’t even get that far. As soon as I saw fig I went from interested to noping out of there.
So what exactly is wrong with FIG model?
I don’t know anything about the site…
Black Flag, sure. Never bothered with Rogue. Interesting, though, I couldn’t find anything credited to U-BE-SOFT Sofia except this one AC PS Vita game.
Thanks ^^
The environments look somewhat tiny judging from the screenshot and the bit of gameplay in the trailer. Also looks kind of generic industrial rubbish, based on the way it looks I expected dystopian cities but all I see are industrial stuff, can’t help but be a little disappointed.
Also, looks like it rips off the XCOM reboots a bit too much.
Woah, Gollop is doing this. Interested!
But we already have X-Com. In fact many of those.
Goddamnit when you want to say “it’s a spiritual successor to X” might as well just say “we want to be like this cool game but we will never reach its level”. As so many sucks-ass-ors have proven.
Would back this if it wasn’t fig but i guess i’ll be waiting for it to actually get released.
I am super backer and investor!
This an awesome vision for a game of this style! The creator of X-com!
you can do no wrong!
Some update on this, @John….Blast from the past more like !!
