A couple of days ago, we informed you about NVIDIA’s intentions to address the somehow fishy performance of The Witcher 3 on its Kepler GPUs. However, it appears that Kepler owners will enjoy a performance boost in even more games.
As NVIDIA’s ManuelG noted, this upcoming fix will be a universal fix for Kepler GPUs, and will boost performance in various PC games.
Our guess is that Project CARS, The Witcher 3, Grand Theft Auto V and Far Cry 4 will be four of them that will see a boost with this new set of drivers on Kepler GPUs.
Stay tuned for more!

Hope you Kepler users are happy after this or just switch to AMD and lesson learned, if you want to continue to support a company that you claim is gimping performance on your product.
This was a massive f’ up by NGreedia, I feel like an idiot for thinking my GTX 770 would be enough to play games at decent settings in 1080p not if its up to NGreedia. AMD just released beta drivers that have support all the way back to the HD 5000 series. LMAO the newest “game ready” driver from NGreedia only have official support for their Maxwell cards.
What is to say they won’t do this again in the near future, not optimizing for higher end kepler cards is like spitting in the face of their customers, those Cards completely demolish anything the XBONE and PS4 have to offer.
GTX 770 3.4 TFLOPS > PS4 GPU 1.8 TFLOPS + XBONE GPU 1.2 TFLOPS
Yet both of those consoles run everything what 770 runs, just fine. And you didnt even mention CPU side, which is far slower than GPU side.
GTX 770 100+ FPS and consoles only 20-30 FPS if you compare the same resolution and same quality in games.

Nope I wont go back to AMD till they step up in the driver department. Hope they do as I would like to try a Fiji card but I wont hold my breath.
Step up in the driver department? What NVidia did to kepler cards with their recent “game ready” drivers is laughable, you know they kind of MISSED OPTIMIZING FOR THE FREAKING KEPLER CARDS? How bad can AMD be compared to that?
My main problem with AMD drives have been slow updates on many of the games I play. If they step up there driver release’s I will gladly give AMD another shot. I have no loyalty to either Nvidia or AMD. I went from AMD to Nvidia. I’m Nvidia right now simply because I had a better experience nothing more. If AMD can deliver on both the hardware and software side I have no problems saying by by Nvidia and back to AMD.Same for CPU’s if they match Intel on single core with Zen I’m willing to give them another chance I have no brand loyalty to any company..
AMD explained why they have such a problem with GameWorks titles many times, driver support lacks there especially for crossfire users, but I am afraid there is nothing AMD alone can do. This is 2 sides business or in case of GameWorks 3.
I am not sure many realize how difficult is to work without access to the source code of the game. Especially if those small parts of code causes such a slow downs on AMD’s HW. Tremendous task indeed.
There should be some fair policy setted up, but this very likely never gonna happen and problem will become even worse in time. Hopefully never get that bad we will need different HW for different game.
How can you say that when NVIDIA drivers for the 6/7 series are poor? I’ve had more CTD with NVIDIA drivers lately then I ever did with my R9 280.
I have had no problems with Nvidia’s drivers in the games that I play only CTD’s I have had recently has been in Skyrim and that was a mod conflict. My 4gb 770’s have been preforming very well especially at the price i got them for.
On my 670 all the CTD’s I’ve ever had were fixed by game updates, not driver updates. Maybe your card was overheating – was it overclocked?
switching to Radeons is gimping performance. AMD cards are 8 times slower at tessellation which is nonsense in 2015. As Project CARS and The Witcher 3 proved
285 has very much the same performance as maxwell (2nd gen.) 200% faster in lower factors, same for mid and half slower in very high tessellation levels. So overall same performance!
Point is GPU IS NOT tessellation accelerator but versatile highly parallel processor. This versatility is a key. While geometry performance of nvidia is very good, they lack because of that in many other areas! They’re trying to overcome this by using tessellation units in computation many tasks that could be handle by other way and way faster.
Problem is, not to use single effect that will cripple performance of whole card, but using all parts of HW efficiently. Also high tessellation factors DO NOT bring any visual improvement, they just cripple performance. You very likely gain much better visuals by using lower factor with bump map/parallax occlusion with fraction of performance cost!
For that reason AMD made tessellation factor an option accessible in CCC years ago.
Every idiot can burry performance without gaining any visual improvement! That is why an optimization is work of art. And reason why there is such a difference between non gameworks and gameworks titles not just compare to radeons but also older geforce.
Question is, do we really wanna play this game?
PS: the fan fact is, nvidia can gain performance of their older series by lowering tessellation factor immediately, no need to wait for any special drivers^^. Point is no one can make them to do so. Therefor we’ll see more games where 960 will outperform 780 xD (hopefully only for limited time)
“They’re trying to overcome this by using tessellation units in
computation many tasks that could be handle by other way and way faster.”
Can you tell us what they should use instead of tessellation and why and when it is faster? And please don’t speak in theory. I would like to see concrete examples.
“Every idiot can burry performance without gaining any visual improvement! That is why an optimization is work of art.”
I agree with that with one note. People should differentiate between bad source code and wrong input settings (like in case of Gameworks).
“Therefor we’ll see more games where 960 will outperform 780 xD (hopefully only for limited time)”
I hope there will not be this situation anymore.
Yeah……? Go ahead and tell me how that scaling is coming along through AMD’s drivers?
And has dropped the ball with multi-card support. My main reason for staying with team green.
Stay with NVIDIA and keep moaning then.
i got gtx 970 sli and it’s scaling is not great either.also there is stupid voltage difference that i had to solve manually.
Are you referring to the performance issues created by “adaptive power” management that is inside the control panels general settings? Do not select the adaptive one that is for sure as that setting alone will throttle your cards worse than a V-Sync cap would.
Usually that is the only thing that needs changing after a driver install.
i have done this but sli does not scale well in some games anyway.
i use two 780’s, so this sounds like good news. But 980Ti is close to release so probably gonna grab two of them soon anyway, so hello maxwell goodbye kepler.
You are exactly the type of customer NVidia wants. When they start gimping Maxwell performance don’t worry buddy there will be a 700 dollar Pascal card waiting for you.
Ya when Pascal arrives i shall go for it too, i always want/need more GPU performance. I also want to go X99 one day aswell.
point was – two card of previous generation performs better than 1 card of new generation, and kepler has great overclocking potential and can go up to 2000 mhz (with water cooling, you can go up to 1500 with air cooling) by simple bios editing with Kepler Bios Tweaker, and by rising voltage to about 1.25v. Two overclocked GTX 680 can beat 1 Maxvell card. Nvidia knows that and with newer drivers they screwing performance (or pushing MSI to disable overvolting in Afterburner to prevent users from unlocking full potential of card) on prev generation to cheat you into thinking that you need new card, when in fact you dont. Games are still have not pushed graphics beyond 2007-2010 years, witcher at best looke like pre 2010 game and it should not be so demanding on kepler, nvidia did it demanding to force buy never card which does not worth it because you sort of have at least 75% of its power or even more power in SLI. And you pay 100% price for about 25% of performance gain in single card stock mode or no performance gain in overclocked case ANd thats, my friend, a stupid thing to do and nvidia want people to be that stupid and do that stupid things. Wait at least 3-4 generations between cards. If you have anything with real 4 gb (lol i have 680 with 4 gb, and 970 is failed and has only 3.5) you are good to got with most of modern and future ititles for a few years
I went x99 a month and a half ago.
It’s awesome.
So much more power. Processing video and 3d rendering at least twice as fast.
Highly recommend it.
Nvidia wants customers who buy their products? Who would have thought!
thats kinda true but there are always iCafe drivers!
Is there a proof that Nvidia is gimping older cards ? Coz I’ve used generations of Nvidia cards and there was a time when I take benchmarks before and after installing a new driver. It’s either the FPS improved or not but never did the performance decrease.
Is there a benchmark somewhere that validates Nvidia gimping the older cards ?
I’m running dual 780’s too. Upgrading to dual 980ti’s would be a colossal waste of money.
I’m running the Witcher 3 at 1440p, and 60fps right now. I simply turned a couple settings down from Ultra to High, and it runs beautiful. There is no game I cannot run at 60fps.
But hey…it’s your money.
Ancient cards! lmao!
700 series is far from ancient, did you get confused because they skipped 800? lol
Sorry to say but it has already 2 YEARS since its release. Even a 970 is almost 1 year old! lmao!
Last gen Cards! lmao!
Im just trolling boy!
980ti soon, want to buy a 970?
I want, I’ll give you tree fiddy.
Yall don’t got no tree fiddy, shhiiiit.
nope. got it already. Im eagearly waiting NVIDIA next gen cards.
GTX 1070 FTW !
Pascal better knock the eyes through the back of my head regarding performance…..!
I’m hoping that with further optimizations through DX12 and driver support we will all reap the benefits of the next API coming our way….
Man I should throw out my 290, sh”t’s old man lol 😀
Lets see how this helps my GTX770 in Witcher 3…
Or my poor 670… lol. Not getting my hopes up but I expect at least 8-10fps increase hopefully.
what fps and settings are you running on? Can’t even maintain 60 fps on minimum settings with my 780m.
I tried to play on lowest settings but even then fps would dip to 30-40fps in villages. So I decided to lock the game at 30 and crank up most of the setting to high, except grass density and foliage visibility and shadows. I really need an upgrade (at least to 970) but don’t have the money so… I guess I’ll just stop playing for a while and get back to it when the upgrade time comes.
GTA5? The Witcher 3? Awesome news! I was laggin in both games. This will be much appreciated!
With GTX 770 i can play Witcher 3 having HBAO+,ultra, high settings with a decent frame rate, in GTAV i have no problem, having almost everything maxed i play the game almost all the time with 60fps.
hope it will be soon cause i want to enjoy my last month with gtx 670 before i build new pc with gtx 980ti
In GTA V i was perfect with iCafe 347.26 WHQL 60+ FPS without a single FPS drop and same goes to project cars beside the intense rain driving were FPS dropped below 60 FPS.
if thats true and they give another FPS boost in those games that will be just amazing !!!
can’t wait for it Nvidia and can’t wait to play Witcher 3 at 60 FPS with my GTX 680 2GB.
Once you go Nvidia you never go back to AMD .
Kepler? I’m pretty sure my 670 is a Kepler. I haven’t had any problems with it, except maybe stuttering in Far Cry 4, which I never did fix. Oh, and the new Wolfenstein games never really worked all that well, even though my GTX 260 ran RAGE beautifully! Later I went back and played RAGE with my 670 and it looked and ran way worse.
Okay, maybe something is a bit wrong with it, then.
Even 5 FPS will buff me above a steady 30 fps on my second PC. I can’t wait for the new drivers. GTA5 runs at around 40-45. a 5-10 FPS buff will make it nearly silky smooth.
I can’t wait to enjoy games on my work PC again! 😛
Most of what you are saying rings true, but that Witcher 3 looks like a pre 2010 game is just ridiculous. Did you play it at 720p with everything on low?
I play on ultra with settings tweaked even furher (and i made E.D.G.E. mod that allow to tweak everything right in game and see results in real time https://vk.com/yobamustdie?z=photo-51921751_368859776%2Falbum-51921751_216455148 ) but technology used in game does not even beat good old Crysis from 2007. So frankly, this game does not even have graphics of 2007 year. Look at Crysis forests and Witcher, look at smooth edges of grass and trees , paralax mapping and volumetric clouds of Crysis from 2007, smooth shadows and self shadowing of faces even indoors and in global shadow, real time reflections on wate, ambient occlusion applier to every instance of grass and leaf, shadows that was cast by grass, and look at Witcher 3 that has non of that.
Witcher 3 looks good in general, but not because of technology it uses, its only a good job assets artitst, its almost like Half Life 2 edisode 2 looks good not because of source engine but because artists are good at making enviroments and weather conditions. But dont let artists of Witcher 3 fool you – games technology really missing a lot of Crysis 2007 tech. Game that in 2015 does not have paralax mapping or tesselation and shows you walls of bricks and rocks as flat textures is a freaking shame!
Even Doom 3 bump mapping looked way more volumetric thant Witcher 3.
Also, you should know that they cut a lot of Witcher 2 tech advantages, Witcher 2 had higher resolution of textures in general and much better looking trees and grass.
Tell me when CDPR liars will patch in some volumetric surfaces with tesselation or paralax, to make flat textures from 1st shot (Witcher 3 at ultra + tweaks 2015 year) looks like 2nd shot (Crysis 1 2007 year), when wax shadowless (indoorin shadow) faces from witcher 3 will start looking like faces from Crysis 1 intro sequence, when all fire places in Witcher 3 will start casting shadows, when texture resolution for most of buildings will rise from 512×512 to at least 2048×2048 or 4096×4096, when grass and trees will start using ambient occlusion all the time and will get alpah to coverage support (which is nothing really hard, Far Cry 3 had it and grass with trees looked way more better and performance was better as well) , when game will have MSAA and SSAA support (Crysis 1 had it btw), and when CDPR will actually do real optimization of perfromance instead of cutting features to pre 2007 level and still failing to run it smoothly on 2013 hardware, and maybe then i will stop calling Witcher 3 a game with pre 2007 (my bad, calling it pre 2010 was way to generous) graphics. Until that moment no matter how hard artists try to cover that, witcher has pre 2007 graphics and its a freaking shame.

so……im just going to wait for pascal before i upgrade.
Using a 780m, on complete minimum settings at 1600v900 only getting 45-55 fps. Hope this helps a bit :/
And after couple of weeks again the performance will drop, like Gtx 900m series drivers with OC “bug”.
No way nvidia. They will cripple again Kepler ’till users will buy all Maxwell stocks.
And after 2 years this Maxwell will be crippled aswell.
The driver should be opensource, that’s my 5 cents.
best driver ever for gtx560 se 😉
390 FTW
Haha right, about 5% increase over my 290….for 100 dollars more, sorta glad I jumped on a deal.
