NVIDIA GeForce 460.89 WHQL driver is now available for download

NVIDIA has released a brand new driver for its graphics cards. According to the release notes, the NVIDIA GeForce 460.89 WHQL driver provides support for the Quake II RTX v1.4.0 Update which enables support for the new Vulkan Ray Tracing extensions. As we’ve already reported, any GPU with support for Vulkan Ray Tracing can now run Quake 2 RTX.

Furthermore, this driver adds support for the finalized Vulkan Ray Tracing extensions, as well as support for CUDA 11.2.

Unfortunately, this new driver does not bring any new bug fixes. As such, you can safely skip it if you are not planning to play Quake 2 RTX.

You can download the NVIDIA GeForce 460.89 WHQL driver from here. Below you can also find its complete changelog.

Game Ready for Quake II RTX with Vulkan Ray Tracing

Our latest Game Ready Driver provides support for the Quake II RTX v1.4.0 update which enables support for the new Vulkan Ray Tracing extensions. Now, any GPU with support for Vulkan Ray
Tracing can experience Quake II RTX in all its path-traced glory.

New Features and Other Changes
  • Supports finalized Vulkan Ray Tracing extensions
  • Supports CUDA 11.2
Unresolved/Open Issues
  • [Nicehash, other mining software]: Mining software does not recognize the NVIDIA GPU.
  • [GeForce GTX 1080 Ti]: The desktop screen may flicker.
  • [Steam VR game]: Stuttering and lagging occur upon launching a game.
  • [HDR]: With HDR enabled, black levels are incorrect.
  • [G-SYNC][NVIDIA Ampere GPU architecture]: GPU power consumption may increase in idle mode on systems using certain higher refresh-rate G-SYNC monitors.
  • [YouTube]: Video playback stutters while scrolling down the YouTube page.
  • [Notebook]: Some Pascal-based notebooks w/ high refresh rate displays may randomly drop to 60Hz during gameplay.
  • [G-Sync][Vulkan Apps]: Performance drop occurs when using G-SYNC and switching from full-screen mode to windowed mode using the in-game settings.
To workaround, either launch the game in windowed mode directly or disable G-SYNC.
  • [GeForce RTX 3070][Clone Mode]: When the resolution is set to 2560×1440 @ 144Hz, the performance state is stuck at maximum performance.
  • [NVIDIA Turing or later][Windows Movies and TV Player]: When playing a 4k video in fullscreen mode.

  1. “Unresolved/Open Issues” – and people were mad with AMD about bad driver support. For some reason Nvidia gets a pass for this ludicrous level of driver support when its driver team is much bigger than AMD’s.

    1. I dunno, the fact AMD has STILL no support for forced anisotropic filtering on anything higher than DirectX 9 games is a head-scratcher to me.

      1. Not saying AMD is better, but given a much bigger driver team Nvidia should be miles better but instead they got a list of unresolved issues to this day.

    2. “Unresolved/Open Issues” AKA they know about it, there’s a dev ticket open for it, and they usually fix said issues. I’ll give AMD credit, they are getting better at driver support, but have a long way to go.

  2. Looks to be a hard pass for someone like myself at the whims of my f*king ISP and their gated bandwidth.

Why download a 600 MB driver if I don’t play Quake RTX?

    1. I feel your pain dude. Such a bullshit

Had to use mobile Internet with 5GB cap for 3 Years. And I needed most of it for school and learning. So I’ve been reading DSOGaming as text only without any images like most of the websites.
I walked in the neighborhood with my smartphone back then and searched for open WiFi Networks to download Witcher 3 Installation Files one by one.
