Hello Games has released an ‘experimental’ patch for the PC version of No Man’s Sky. According to the release notes, this beta patch improves shader caching and overall performance. In addition, this patch promises to fix the annoying mouse jitter issues that PC gamers experienced.
In order to download this experimental patch, you’ll have to:
- Right-click on the game from the library page and select “Properties”. Among the available tabs will be the “BETAS” tab.
- Code: 3xperimental
- Your new branch should be listed in the dropdown menu under “Select the beta you would like to opt into:”
And here are the release notes for this patch:
Improved AMD Phenom Support
Thousands of lines of assembly have been rewritten overnight to support AMD CPUs. Unfortunately whilst the game code no longer relies on anything above SSE 2, Havok Physics still requires “Supplemental SSE 3”, which was not supported until “Bobcat” and above. We’re discussing with Havok.Alt-Tab has improved
Some systems/configs were crashing or not pausing correctly on Alt Tab. This should now be resolved.Shader Caching
Framerate was initially stuttering due to shaders not being correctly cached by the GPU on some systems. We have replaced the GPU caching system. You may notice some stutter during the Galactic Map intro to the game (the very first time you run), but it should be smoother from then on (this will be fixed in future). This is particularly true on ATI cardsMouse Jitter
Smoothing on mouse movement has been improved to prevent hitching or stuttering, and is now adjustable through the Options menu in “Mouse Smoothing”.Max FPS Cap
On some CPU/GPU configurations, setting Max FPS to 60 or 30 was not giving 60 or 30 FPS (causing stuttering). This has been improved.Improved Performance
On CPUs with 4 threads or fewer, performance has been improved.Intel GPUs
The game will now let you know if you are trying to run with an unsupported GPU. This will hopefully flag for some users that their high end GPU has not been selected.Gsync
Gsync has been disabled by default, which was causing an issue for some users

Get No Man’s Sky Early Access. Only $60.
or
Get No Man’s Sky Gold Edition. Only $20-30.
The choice for me is always very simple.
It’s even easier for me.
Neither version.
Same 😀
You mean buying it later, when it costs $20-30, right?
Some other guy posted a comment saying that the game cost $20, so I’m wondering.
Yes buying it after a few months when the game is all patched up and stable and by that time the price will go down as well.
yup this game is everything i thought it would be, utter repetitive empty early access game for 60 bucks.
What i did not anticipate is the pc version being garbage despite they took their time. Boy they were not kidding when they said it is a console game.
So your options are
1. Pay 60 bucks for a boring repetitive unfinished game that runs like garbage
2. Rent the ps4 version, return it after a day of 6 hours play.
3.Wait for it to get cheap will all the patches and updates, eg they said they will add the ability to build stuff in the next patch.
4.Ehmm get the game for free play it for a few hours and get rid of your “ZOMG EXPLORE PLANETS, UNIQUE FLY TO ANOTHER PLANET” urge that we all have and is the only reason we want to play this game. Then uninstall it and forget about it.
Renting is the best option but I probably would play for 1 day and drop it lol
exactly and i called this but hey the sony corporate slaves kept falling for the hype.
Yep brainwashed sheeps
Oh man, i wish Steam or GOG start renting games, like 5$ for 5 days or so, depending on the game’s size or timer starts when you hit the play button. it can be always online like using family share.
lol, it was always marketed like that anyway, I don’t see how people got the wrong end of the stick thinking it would be anything else. You think all those planets have unique things to do on every one of them? HAHHAHAHAHAHAHA. It’s only repetitive if you play it that way doing the same thing ,because there is a varied amount of things to do, it was always about exploring, gaining knowledge, trading, upgrading, I mean a lot of MMO are the same repetitive thing, at least you don’t grind in this and do the level up sh*t. :p
The thing about this game is you will find something new on every planet, the tasks are the same(not always, i.e you won’t always find crashed ships for example and certain items) but at least you get rewarded for them in terms of currency. Also, the game doesn’t do the bullsh* what Ubisoft do in reviling the map or planet, you have to go find and reveal things, you have to craft certain equipment and mine elements on the planet for that equipment to reveal it.
runs very smooth on my system (i7 2600/gtx 970) and Im loving the game so far, exactly what I wanted and it has some improvement margin, wich is nice.
Just f’ng pirate it
Only if I can come to your house and take something off your porch.
Try me
Yep, also all of the new games. by waiting, you pay less and enjoy more.
Make it around 15 bucks and I’m in.
And for GOG users???
I am waiting too :/
g-sync has been disabled as default? How can that even affect the game?
G-Sync is implemented at the driver level, I believe they’re talking b0ll0cks as turning that value to false in the game setting file makes no difference to g-sync on my display.
“Thousands of lines of assembly have been rewritten overnight” should’ve just polished PC port more before shipping it but nooooo
I’ve tested all the configurations, all the tweaks, different drivers, the experimental patch, different framerate locks and what not.
Game still doesn’t run well stutters, freezes, unstable framerates and frametimes, on top of that it has a massive memory leak, after 30 min to and hour out of nowhere the GPU and GPU usage go down to 20% or less and framerate tanks to single digits.
Bummer.
3 words: hunk of junk
They should have delayed it for the PC, that simple. Hopefully it should be fixed up within a week or two. Lucky for me it’s not been as horrible as some people have been saying, I’ve seen videos of it performing so bad on RX480s it’s not even funny.
Someone found a ported Sony library in the game files, so don’t be surprised if this as close as it comes to a copy pasted port.
True true but typically the game can run on phenom ii cpus just like mgs v and earth defense force who had the same issue. Just support those cpus if the game cun run on them. Gives us bragging rights on “pc gaming is too expensive”
After all 7 year old intel cpus can run this game fine.
This game is a rip off
Yeah, but no Supplemental SSE3 (SSSE3, note the extra “S”) which were implemented after AMD made the Phenoms.
No Man’s Sky? More like No Man’s Buy, amirite? Hahahaha… I’ll show myself out now.
Freelancer beats it despite being 13 years old. It’s time Microsoft. Just put that game on GOG you dumbas*es.
Microsoft has nothing to do with No Mans Sky lol
He’s talking about Freelancer.
Different vibe though.
I never followed this game at all. Was it really so hyped? Everybody is complaining that the game sucks but I think the hype attributes greatly to that feeling. I don’t think the game is necessarily bad but perhaps it just didn’t live up to all the hype. Then again I haven’t played it so I wouldn’t know. Game could be garbage.
Some people want instant gratification and don’t have the patience with it. It’s grown on me. No idea why people brought it knowing what it was going to be like and then saying it’s “boring”. Watch the game is boring, when you play it and put proper time into it, no, not really, the exploration is and variety is good.
Once you figure out how to get units(currency) you can just upgrade everything, less mining for elements because you equipment is better. There are crashed ships which you can repair and take rather than buy them at crazy prices. Explore for blueprints to upgrade things and your ship, better weapons, all sorts to do. There is choice answers to get equipment, riddles, language learning, identifying creatures, planets, plants and objects on planets to get units.
Were the devs being a bit ambiguous about the gameplay mechanics? Which led people to reaching their own conclusions?
Oh it was hyped, not by the devs, not by Sony but by everyone else.
Then the devs and Sony just went along with the snowball. Sean Murray kinda painted himself into a corner. I went after every bit of info I could find to really get a grasp of what the game would be, and now I feel that somehow it wasn’t enough (to an extent).
It isn’t bad, it’s just simple and not in a minimalistic way. Like it feels “dated” somehow.
People will say “blah blah procedural sucks” without realizing that is the gameplay loop that counts. And that is the big drawback here.
Oh, and the PC “port” (if we can call it that), what a shame.
I’m honestly glad I never got hyped up so much. How does it feel dated? And yeah the port being awful is a shame. That being said, I don’t and never planned on playing the game.
Dated as in, all the mechanics lacks the same grandiose of the presentation.
They’ve all been seen better in other games. Which would be fine, you can pretty much ape everything and have a fine game (like say, Dying Light for example), but it’s the way that you present that will be the “hook”.
In this game it’s lacking the same ambition of the game. It lacks depth and details.
You can still be a weirdo like me and still have your fun/fill/hook with what is presented atm. But then again, I’m not known for being a sane person. :p
The patch makes the game run like sh*t for me so a reverted back, rather odd, maybe I should try deleting the config files. The main issue is the occasional hitching and cranky mouse movement. The aliasing in this game is horrible and so is the blurryness, I use Reshade for sharpening and it looks much better.
I’ve just tested a trick I’ve found on Reddit, using the GLintercept.
The trick is for gpus that lacks support for opengl 4.4, somehow the hitching and overall framerate got a lot better for me using the thing. Frametimes and the memory leak still crazy though.
For the record 560ti + 390.00 beta driver + the patch.
The config file is identical.
Well, runs in the 30s with the patch instead of the 90s so I can’t use it, not that it’s stuttering a lot for me, performance is good with the occasional hitches. Better not be like this with the official patch :p.
