Metroid Prime 2: Echoes gets a HD ESRGAN AI-enhanced Texture Pack

Resetera’s member ‘Bearborg‘ has released a HD ESRGAN AI-enhanced texture pack for Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. Similarly to the HD texture pack for the first Metroid Prime game, this is for the Gamecube version and can only be enjoyed on the PC via the Dolphin emulator.

In other words, PC gamers can now enjoy remastered versions of both Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes thanks to emulators. And this, right here, is one of the main reasons why emulators are so important.

Bearborg used the Manga109 model in order to improve the textures, and released some comparison screenshots that you can find below.

Those interested can download the HD Texture Pack from here, and below you can find a guide for installing it.

1.) Verify that the main texture pack folder is named to the proper Game ID or the first 3 letters.
2.) Place the texture pack into the global Dolphin directory:
C:\Users\UserName\Documents\Dolphin Emulator\Load\Textures
3.) Open Dolphin emulator.
4.) Enter Graphics > Advanced tab > Check Load Custom Textures.

Kudos to our reader “hyperspeed_Ryu” for bringing this to our attention. Vanilla screenshots are on the left whereas the modded screenshots are on the right!

    1. This is a game from 2004. It’s nearly 15 years old. Of course it’s not going to have as much graphical fidelity as high budget AAA games from the 2010’s. Sony makes great games but that was just stupid.

  1. This looks even better than prime 1 because OG prime 2 is gorgeous already, can’t wait to see Eternal Darkness get this treatment in this survival horror era! xD

Now if we only could get a 16.9 HUD for Prime 2 like Prime 1 has one day.

    1. Unfortunately eternal darkness has some problems that come with the increased clarity that high resolution textures won’t fix.

480i was so fuzzy you couldnt tell, but they were so bad they were even visible in gc’s 480p ‘progressive scan’ mode.

Things like modeling errors, where arms and leg seams are so big the limbs are visibly clearly not attached to torsos.

I think it would REALLY stand out in the resolutions of today.

  2. I REALLY hope the trilogy release on switch does something like this, rather than just dumping untouched decade old assets onto the cart.

I also would REALLY appreciate it if they fixed all the broken or missing effects from the trilogy version of metroid prime.

  3. Got it up and running. easy to load up the game and hit ” Load Custom Textures” while the game is running. Its obvious night and day differnt. Holy cow. Doing a 4k fresh run now with these new textures.

  4. Here is the first 40 min gameplay video (4k60fps) if the texture pack in action with widescreen mod so the edge culling doesn’t happen (mod/code found on a dolphin forum for playing games in VR, culling is bad in VR). This texture pack is effing amazing. I feel like I am playing Metroid Prime 4. Minus the text and in game movies which look like hot garbage.
