MachineGames may have teased Quake 6

It appears that MachineGames may have teased a new Quake game, codenamed Quake 6, at Microsoft’s Developer Direct 2024 event. This also falls in line with the rumors we’ve heard about a new Quake game being developed by MachineGames.

As you can see below, MachineGames has written Quake 6 on its billboard. Now while we can’t see the letters “Q” and “U”, we can easily see the Quake logo below them. So yes, this appears to be a teaser for Quake 6.

Sadly, we don’t have anything more to add to this story. You can see for yourselves the whiteboard in the video at the end of the article. Just head at the 11:34 mark.

Quake 6 teaser

So, what would you like to see in a new Quake game? Personally, I’d love to see a polished single-player campaign. After all, we already have a “modern” multiplayer game in the form of Quake Champions. So, a high-quality Quake reboot, similar to what we saw with Doom 2016 would be great.

I’m also a bit conflicted about whether this reboot should be closer to the first Quake game, or follow the Strogg story from Quake 2. I love both Q1 and Q2, so it’s a bit difficult to choose between them. If I had to guess, I’d say that MachineGames would play it safe and remake the Strogg storyline. And that would kind of suck as the first Quake had a lot of potential and atmosphere.

Speaking of Quake, I highly recommend downloading the Path Tracing Mod for it. You can also download the Slave Zero X-Inspired Mod we shared yesterday. As for Q2, I highly recommend getting the RTX version that NVIDIA released in 2019.

As always, we’ll be sure to keep you posted. So, stay tuned for more.

Kudos to Resetera’s ‘JigglesBunny‘ for spotting the image!

        1. Nope. They wouldn’t give a BR project to a singleplayer studio. If Machine were making a Quake game it would be singleplayer focused, essentially the next Wolfenstein game but with a Quake 1 or a Quake 2 theme.

    1. I’d rather have anything than wait forever and get nothing, however middling it is.
Then I’ll keep on waiting back for more stuff for the old proper good games (or even the new one), like mods, upscaled textures, rtx remixes, etc.

      1. you can just play mods instead of a woke crapfest made for the modern era, whats so great about quake anyway? Its not like it has unique gameplay or story, every quake game is unrelated with different gameplay and setting. Who cares? Reimagining turok to be like doom 2016 makes sense, or a modern black or soldier of fortune wtf you gonna do with quake? Might as well make another unreal game that will of course be multiplayer because most people dont know how glorious the unreal 1 campaign was.

        1. U could make Quake on new engine like Doom 2016 and lovecraftian aesthetic. It can be woke or opposite. Me dont care. I just enjoy games. Both sides can go to hell or heaven or whatever.

  1. Machinegames showed they’re pretty capable when it comes to gameplay, wolfenstein besides the wokeness is a pretty good and fun game, perhaps they can seriously deliver…

  2. To me, quake one was the best and way better than others. man that dark corridors and demonic artstyle, those ambient enemies voices you heared when you wondered around guessing what you were gonna see, even those secret areas, i loved them all.

  3. Why am I not excited? I know why! Coz Machine Games is a F**KIN woke company, run by freaks!

Machine Games made 2 good games, Wolfensteing: The New Order + Old Blood, and then went woke, ruining everything!

    1. Didn’t they made Colossus? Me and the GF take turns in that game and really like it except for initial cut screens. Man I can’t keep track lol.

    2. You are so stupid that are embarrasing us with that speech of hate about “woke” and so on, without any clue and out of context about this new and Machine Games. So blatantly dumb comment from you!

Your issues of managament of hate and with the girls are yours, please, don’t talk us about them.

    3. If you where smart you would know that The New Order is woke, with super jew magics and other dumb stuff for gullible goys.

  4. Game studios need to go back to the drawing board, literally, and ask themselves “Why the f*k are we making games for people who don’t play our game anyways?” because if a Quake 6 will be ‘actually’ teased we know it’s gonna be a dumpster fire and rehashed gameplay mechanics with nothing interesting or new because apart from hiring troglodytes they are also creatively bankrupt and just copy paste of what makes other games successful instead of innovating and adding fresh elements.

    1. I think it went from an amazing ‘cottage industry’ in the 80s to 90’s to where the love for real gaming evaporated and turned into an exploitive oversaturated cash grab today. It’s sad really.

  5. [User Profile Picture: Check ✅]

    OMG WHAT THE F*CKING F*CK IT’S ACTUALLY HAPPENING I CAN’T WAIT!!!

uhm… I can’t wait… to SEE more but uhm, games being the mass media crap they are these days, idk, I’ll wait and see… and faintly hope the atmosphere feels strongly eldritch, dark and gritty like Quake 1… not arena-like and smooth and pretty like 2016/Eternal.

I wanted a new Doom I-II but we got 2016 and Eternal, which are whatever you want but not like the originals…
Quake Champions is Fortnite Quake III…
Wolfenstein (that admittedly was a very rudimentary game) turned into a generic nazzy shooter…

  6. Back in the day the grad students used to have quake 3 LAN parties, physics guys lol That bugeyed weirdo at the end there looks like many of them who abuse the hgh and get those bulb heads and bug eyes as a result. That sick homerun derby has a couple examples old mac who suddenly became typical wwe weirdo body and the other one later the bonds, tman lol The gorgons SHOULD need no explanation w their shawls over those frannystein shoulders lmao hand hiding game etc They get a lite mental retardation from all the hormones and just the hobbit shysterism has a form of retardation for gold accumulation and the hukers and blow they can get w that etc

  7. Gothic Quake … plz no generic strogg alien setting again …
strogg was good for Quake II … but for a modern game, that alien stuff’s too generic
and Quake II was never meant to be called Quake in the first place.

  8. The next Quake game would be 5, not 6. Calling the next one 6 would make no sense. Either you count the multiplayer only titles Live and Champions and you make Quake 7 (stupid imo) or you stick to the universal tradition of continuing a numbered series with the next number you haven’t used yet – Quake 5.

It’s a joke, they’re not actually making a Quake game.

  9. Game will be full of cheaters, just as cokk of duty, apex, countless others and now even The Finals (read comments)
    dsogaming(.)com/patches/the-finals-update-1-5-0-released-full-patch-notes/

Anybrain(.)gg who are making the best machine learned anti-cheat system on the market right now, have proven with statistics that 30 % of the players on the most popular fps titles are cheating (check their youtube videos)

    1. And as posted the problem right now are not the obvious 30:2 cheaters, but the ones were one can’t say anymore if the “player is just gud at aiming, or is cheating”.
      Trust is gone.
The cheats have become so complex and sublte, it has become impossible to distinguish cheaters, from legit good players anymore.
I see players constantly turning in 0.2 seconds and headshoting me half the time, basically fragging me despite I shot them for almost a full second in the back.

I have thus quitted The Finals. It’s impossible to compete even at medium levels, less on the top, on a fair level.

Unless everyone uses that kind of machine learned anti-cheat systems, competitive fps is a waste of time.

  10. If it has a SP campaign, we can always just rent it in Game Pass. MS first party after all.

What I’d really like is for the “lost” Id + Raven games to be put back into digital distribution:- Wolfenstein 2009, Hexen 2 expansion, Commander Keen 6 off the top of my head.

  11. It was great seeing how much work you put into it. Even though the design is nice and the writing is stylish, you seem to be having trouble with it. I think you should really try sending the next article. I’ll definitely be back for more of the same if you protect this hike.

  12. that’s weird that they wouldn’t call it quake 5

but doom on the other hand would be on it’s v.6 being that doom 4 was canceled and then they had doom reboot then doom eternal

  13. It was great seeing how much work you put into it. The picture is nice, and your writing style is stylish, but you seem to be worrying that you should be presenting the next article. I’ll almost certainly be back to read more of your work if you take care of this hike.

  14. Thank you for the good writeup It in fact was a amusement account it Look advanced to far added agreeable from you However how could we communicate

  15. Meh. I’m not that much into those so-called “boomer shooters”, mid-90s FPS.
I prefer the late 90s-2000, when FPS reached their peak quality.(and never experienced such greatness again after that…)
Half-Life, No One Lives Forever, Deus Ex, Blood, Gunman Chronicles, Kingpin, Unreal…
Back when FPS meant engaging stories and rich gameplay with diverse mechanics.

Actually, yeah, NOLF! This is what I want the most.
That game should have had dozens of sequels.

I don’t care for Quake cos I already have plenty of incredible mods for Quake 1, like Arcane Dimensions. And same for Doom, by the way.
Not sure what a new Quake would bring to the table.
Not saying it’s “outdated” at all (I enjoy more old games than new), but it’s like when people make a 4th sequel to a 80s movie we loved, and you’re thinking “WHY??”
Like, we’ve already seen everything it can offer, it’s time to move on.
Even Half-Life 3, I couldn’t care less about that one.

That reminds me of my English teacher back in the 90s, who didn’t even like the second Aliens movie.
I remember he said “what is even the point? They’ve already explored the exact same issues in the first movie. They’re only repeating themselves.”
I used to disagree, but now I can see it.

I mentioned NOLF cos this one, on the contrary, got completely forgotten, despite being so unique and original, and I know that tons of gamers would love a reboot/sequel/remake/whatever.

But in general, I tend to think that if the gameplay is going to be similar, then, as I said, what does it bring to the table?
I’m excited for the Tomb Raider remasters especially because of the improved controls, not so much the improved graphics.
If it the controls weren’t improved, I’m not sure I would even consider playing these remasters.

So, an overly long and useless rant only to say that a new Quake would interest me only if it had a massively different/improved gameplay from the original games, actually.
Which is exactly what 99% of gamers DO NOT want, unfortunately.
I realize I’m in the minority.
And developers KNOW that the targeted customers wants to feel nostalgic, period.

So, yeah, instead, I think that they’re going to do it like the Doom reboot.
Like a super-mega-boosted-ultramodded-version of the original Quake, with ultra HD 8K textures, and let’s not forget the pseudo-edgy-cool-unfunny-zoomer humor, and that’s it. Meh. I skipped the Doom reboot, by the way. Yawn.

But for the love of God…
Please don’t add crafting mechanics to Quake. PLEASE. lol
That is the ONE thing we don’t need.

Edit: Oh, but to answer your question, John, if I had to choose, I would definitely prefer them to use the same style as Quake 1, not Quake 2, which looks and feels so generic.
