Horizon Zero Dawn Special K Mod promises better frame pacing & less stuttering

Modder ‘Kaldaien’ has released a brand new version of his Special K mod that adds partial support to Horizon Zero Dawn. According to the modder, and by using Special K, you will get better frame pacing and less stutters in this latest open-world game.

To be honest, I never really had any major frame pacing or stuttering issues with Horizon Zero Dawn. So yeah, this mod does nothing on my end. However, it may indeed address some of the stuttering issues that other players have reported, so go ahead and give it a go.

As Kaldaien noted, gamers will have to make the following manual INI edits as D3D12 support is incomplete with the latest version of Special K.

[API.Hook]
LastKnown=64
d3d11=false
d3d12=true

Furthermore, and by using Waitable Swapchains and SK’s framerate limiter, players will get a smooth experience when using borderless window mode.

You can download Special K (and find some instructions in order to use its framerate limiter) here. You can also read our PC Performance Analysis article here.

Have fun!

    1. Works fine for the Epic version, you just have additional manual steps. SKIF only has launcher support for Steam at the moment, though I am working on features to automate Epic.

      Best of all, if you pirate the Epic version, it doesn’t create any problems the way it does if you pirate the Steam version. I prefer pirates steal the Epic version and stop calling problems created by their Steam cracks DRM that I created :sigh:

      1. He includes a lot of unnecessary checks to see if your copy is pirated or not. The methods he uses to implement those checks are quite intrusive.

  1. From the guy that shills for Devuno at every opportunity yet makes mods to improve performance on said games

  2. FYI for those with NVIDIA GPU’s using the driver based fps limiter achieves excellent frame pacing. It’s on par with Riva Statistics Tuner but without the need to have another software running.

    Simply enable the fps limiter per game via the Nvidia control panel.

    1. I don’t like when people post pics of old comments.
      It feels a bit like being spied on by gestapo or something.

      1. Uhm, no one is spying on anyone. He did that rubbish a day ago, basically hours before he spew his new rubbish. Only calling people on their Bullsh*t. Alot of people here are just here to cause problems and troll just to rile people up. You can call it whatever you want, just don’t spew garbage and it won’t happen to you.

    1. What?

      If you pirate the Steam version of the game, it’s not going to work. That has nothing to do with me, why the hell do you think I tell pirates to turn SteamAPI off? If you’re going to emulate the Steam client, either do it completely or turn off Special K’s Steam features. It’s not DRM when when the thing you use to pirate a game does not have all the necessary features to run Special K.
